Saw the Carbuncle and thought "I want one!".
The PC controls were familiar enough given my experience with WoW. Cloning that part of WoW was the right decision.
Story and atmosphere got me stay.
Crafting was nice too.
I'm a life long fan of FF since the first and MMO's in general. I love how they add things from past FFs into this game, most recently, Matoya with her brooms and music, and the three statues from FF6 in AL in all their huge, detailed glory.
The FF franchise lured me.
The story held me in till I finished.
My FC is what holds me in now till the next part of the story comes out.
Long time FF fan here, I decided to give the 2.0 beta a shot and loved it. I love making a character and feeling like they are included in the story, conquering hard battles, the countless FF nods. Playing an MMO on the PS3 was great, upgrading to PS4, positively addiciting.
Always been a FF fan and I enjoy the community a lot more than any of the other mmos I've played. Also, the job system is perfect for me because I enjoy trying everything.
As a past FFXI player, I was naturally drawn to XIV.
I played since 1.0 launch, I only ever took a break during the free subscription period (I missed the Moonlet haha)
I think that my FC has kept me around more then anything...
I value glamour and vanity items very highly, such as pretty characters, gear and housing so XIV is satisfying to me because of the large amount of clothing etc.
Miqo'te race. Even thou i play Au Ra
My kitty is pretty ...that helps, love the graphics, enjoyed ffxi for many years ..of course I would enjoy ffxiv too :o)
I think in genral it is a solid game atm ..it ,as other games, give me enjoyment in many different ways and I am sure it will for a long time yet!
What made me pick up FFXIV:
- I've always liked MMORPGs. I can switch between social mode and lone wolf mode.
- I actually preferred the subbed system (P2P). I have played way too many F2P and spent a lot more money on those games only for them to get messed up by either the devs or publisher.
- I don't like the FF franchise as a whole, but I do like some of their characters such as the moogles and chocobos.
What makes me stay on FFXIV:
- MMORPG
- P2P
- Characters, both original and cross-overs (such as Lightning)
- The Hunt: Yes, call me crazy, I actually like hunting and triggering S ranks on my own.
I've been a lifelong fan of FF. I remember getting a SNES when I was 13 just because I saw FFIII (FFVI) in an EGM magazine! After reading about the game, and seeing the characters and battle system, I could not wait to play the game. Probably a week after seeing that review in the Electronic Gaming Monthly, or it could have possible been a Die Hard Game Fan, magazine, anyway, about a week after having read about the game I had my grandpa take me to buy a SNES and FFIII. Once I started playing the game I was hooked! After the awesome experience I had with that game, I was forever a FF fan. I've played all the major FF titles, but I spent the most time playing FFXI. FFXI was my first MMORPG, and I played the game for approximately 3 and a half years. When I heard about FFXIV I couldn't wait to get started. Played around with the beta for 1.0 but ultimately didn't get to really to start playing FFXIV until around September, or October, of 2010. From then on I played FFXIV as often as possible, and played up until the end of 1.23. Anxiously waited for 2.0, got in during beta and have been playing ever since. I do enjoy how the game does allow for solo play, but it would be nice if there was more group content that wasn't instanced such as open world content, even if SE started out with having old fashioned mob grind xp parties as a great way to gain xp and expanded out from there with other, exciting, open world content. I feel this would build more community among servers as more people would group together for considerable lengths of time in which friendships could be made, and fun times could be had.
On a side note, I wish the game offered more longevity for equipment, even if that meant that horizontal gear progression was added. I'm positive I'm not the only person who would like for the gear we work hard to obtain to not be obsolete once every 3-6 months. Especially considering that there are now 13 DoW/DoM jobs, and it takes a considerable amount of time to gear up all of the jobs that we might be interested in playing.
What made me pick up FFXIV:
I had never heard of it and saw it on steam on my birthday and thought, hey seems like fun!
What makes me stay on FFXIV:
Cute clothes!
what made me pick it up
long time ff fan since the nes days and little brother got me playing
what make me stay
the 3 month updates im never bored
fav job
mch i get to use a firearm ^.^
The only reason I've played this game is Nanamo Ul Namo.
What got me into FFXIV
- I was an Alpha and Beta tester for both 1.0 and 2.0
- Ive been playing FF since the very first one on the NES
- What got me back into 14 after 1.0 crashed and burned was the roegadyns... love me some beef.
- The story, the Ending and the credits to 2.0 were amazing.
What makes me stay into FFXIV:
- it's not the grind ill tell you that right now. it's
- Friends
- New content added every few months, 2.1 and 2.2 being my favs, i mean come on Pharos Sirius and Lost City <3
- so many things to do its hard to get burnt out
- finding glitches and bugs. i was a tester after all.
The glamour and the EB ceremony. Never married in game, but if I see a mmo that has an option like that, it means that I'll have a lot of other things I ll enjoy in game lol.
Never played another FF game. This if my first time playing it although I heard about that title a lot. The final fantasy title by itself didnt attract me and make me want yo play the gameto
- Crafting and Gathering (First time saw this job from all MMO)
- Coeurl Beach Brief (And all males bathing suit)
- Hyur Highlander's body :p
- Glamour!
- Housing (Yet I only decor for my private chamber only)
What makes me stay? My hunky Roe partner and my FC neighbor :) (And it would be nice to learn about JP's game community)
What made me pick up FFXIV:
I found reviews and comparisons to WoW on youtube and reddit, and also got recommendations from friends. I wanted to find another MMO after quitting WoW. I was positively surprised by the character creation options and really liked the lore of Roegadyns. The FF series was new to me and I'm still not sure what story bits are references to older FF games.
What made me stay:
I enjoy the abundance of content and the rewards for doing the content, the graphics and art, the main story and being able to do everything on one character. The way you are introduced to new abilities and mechanics feels very fluid and natural, and the dungeons are engaging. This game has a sense of progression from the very start. It's a really good game and I hope it lives long!
What made me pick up FFXIV:
I love Final Fantasy games. The aesthetics, themes, whole thing. Never got the chance to play XI because I didn't have a credit card at the time.
What made me stay:
The good people, the story, and the fact I can be any class I want at any time without having start over from scratch. It's just...a fun game. Most fun I've had in an MMO after I left my previous one for a couple of years (and no, not WoW, even though it was one of my inbetween games).
Played FFXIV during the beta and actually despised the game. Felt it was boring running from quest to quest, disliked the static non-action based combat with games like tera/guildwars 2 just released, and world wasn't that impressive to me.
Fast forward 2 years and I've weened off GW2/Tera and haven't really played a mmo in a long while. A friend I knew from a previous mmo wanted to start up in FFXIV since we're both big FF fans, and I thought why not give it another shot since it has been 2 years. Low and behold I'm loving the game this time around even though it feels exactly the same during the beta (both time playing as Glad). Can't say specifically why I love the game now, but I think its a changing in my tastes in games, since FFXIV feels like it fits my mmo craving like a glove.
Haha now I decided to go back to Tera and GW2 just to see how they stand up, and for some reason they seem really lacking to me compared to FFXIV. Strange how things change and things turn out.
What made me pick FFXIV: the trailer with a terra look-alike riding a Magitek Armor.
What makes me stay on FFXIV: P2P, nice playerbase, fun dungeons.
Thanks for this thread!
What do I like most in this game?
It's so familiar to an old WoW player like me (absolutely NO learning curve), but not a real clone, and better in many ways.
The rich story.
The art, both world and models.
Fast, significant content updates
I think the biggest reason i play FFXIV is I'm a huge fan of FF, always have been. This to me is my first real Final Fantasy HD experience. FF13 really didn't do it for me.
What I love the most is all my favorite FF things are in the game and the devs have done a wonderful job of maintaining the spirit and charm of Final Fantasy. So Kudos for that. Urth's Font trial where Odin uses his signature Zantetsuken instant wipe move at the end was brilliant. The goblins from FFXI are really great as well. Bahamut Prime was probably one of the coolest things I've seen in a FF game in a long time. I'm also excited to see what they do with Omega, Alexander, and Tiamat.
The lurvs... <3
I was originally interested just for the sake of it being a Final Fantasy title.
But I came BACK because, even with all its faults-the jerks in the community, the random bugs that make you scratch your head, the PS3/4 will explode the game "scapegoat".. I could go on-, FFXIV is currently the best MMO on the market IMO. I floated around a ton of games in the past year and kept saying, "God, I wish they'd implement what FFXIV did." So I came back and decided to accept this game and its community for what it is, good and bad, all of it. :)
What made me pick FF14?
Everything about it. But mostly:
Pretty women
Lalafells
Pretty women
Lalafells
Final Fantasy's track record
Roegadyns
Remale Roegadyns (because "female" is too mild a descriptor for them)
Mother Miounne
Lalafells
And pretty women
This thread.
Something for devs to cheer for. :)
What made me pick up the game...
During a Black Friday sale I thought "hey, the Collector is pretty cheap", so me and my GF got a copy each.
Altho it took me a few days before I even started playing, but I got hooked pretty soon.
- The storydriven gameplay with all the cutscenes was a joy for me.
- The Trials are challenging the first time you played them.
- Gameworld is great looking and I tend to just roam around enjoying the scenary.
- Character Design and all the emotes looks great.
- Music is great.
- The Community is (mostly) friendly.
These are some of the things that pops up into my head.
Always been a FF fan, my first one being FFVII and have played every one since, even going back and playing all the older ones as well,
Wanted to play FFXI and FFXIV 1.0, but unfortunately could not play them on my PS2/PS3 in uk as there was no way for me to do so :(
So when FFXIV 2.0 was announced for PS3 I was one of the first in the queue for the Beta ;)
I honestly only applied for the beta because Male Miqo'te.
Overall the game's more than enough fun. Right now I'm wishing there was some more depth to the combat like CC being a factor, but what I'm really loving is that even though I'm getting burnt out, I can stay relevant by logging on and at least getting my EX roulette done.
Maps are also a ton of fun, and I'm really hoping that we can get some sort of instanced hunting in a party of four that requires a bit more teamwork than dungeons.
It also really helps that the world is one I actually enjoy wandering around in. I jus need 3.1 to hurry up and get here so I can fly on Kirin.
My BF and I came from WoW but I have been a big FF Fan since NES but didn't want to play XIV alone.
We saw the trailer and some reviews and we decided to try it.. Now I wished I started playing this game way sooner. Of course, major bonus for being a P2P game.
Same here. I wanted an MMO that I could play on my PS3 in my living room, and be über casual with. FF14 was the answer to that want.
What kept me however, was ... that mostly our characters look alive! The level of emoting and expressions are on a whole higher level than any other MMO I've ever played. They seem like they have a soul. When we look at someone/something, we really look. They way we do things or express ourselves vary wildly (but believably) depending on what race or gender we play as. There are differences - like in the real world. There is huge RP-ability here. But mostly, it feels like I can really be another me in this game.
It's either this or WoW, everything else is garbage. WoW just looks too old at this point to give me any sense of thrill.
Great to know people are enjoying, let's keep this thread alive then:)
