Housing Availability Issues

I am a bit concerned with the current status of Housing in FFXIV. As it stands, on many servers all housing wards are full and show very little sign of that changing anytime soon. To this extent I have a few suggestions that may clear up space in housing areas so that players who do not have a house may be able to get one. (These are not all inclusive but separate possibilities)

1. Limit housing purchases to 1 per account. NOT per character.

2. Revoke housing from inactive/unpaid accounts.

3. Perhaps implement a REAL personal housing area like was originally planned?

The first 2 suggestions are realistic and I believe would be easy enough to implement. The final is just wishful thinking. I know I would love to have a house of my own but there are many greedy people who have multiple or that are just not used anymore. Hopefully something will be done to accommodate more players.

Right now on Zodiark there is one available land plot (medium) in the Goblet for just shy of 18 million gil. I would expect that from a large plot but medium? No. In fact, my FC has a large manor house and the leaders paid 20 million. It's prices like these that drive people towards gil sellers :/

I do like the idea of revoking housing from inactive accounts though. I've lost count of how many plots in the housing wards that I've seen which have been bought but never used. There's never been a house created... its just an empty plot.

Something seriously needs to be done.

I think I'm not speaking only for myself here when I say that free company housing is something essential to the game play. We expect that there are enough plots per world for purchase. Many of my friends, myself included, feel frustrated and very disappointed when this demand is not met. At this time and date the only option left for a free company who desires a house, is to jump worlds, and that hardly seems like an acceptable solution to anything.

All suggestions above are very good to solving this issue, but I would go as far as suggesting that personal housing be completely removed, and I know that is not realistic and it sounds crazy, I just think the personal housing should never have been an option. How could Square Enix even think that there would be enough space, the math just doesn't ad up.

I just hope and wish that Square Enix will take this issue seriously and start searching for a solution as soon as possible.

I've recently gotten into the game, and was reading about some of the housing features. I was really excited about this until I started looking into it and realized housing is not even something I can aspire to at this point, which is a shame. Seeing they added features to the housing system in the expansion without adding capacity blows my mind.

Has there been any response to this? I've had a hard time finding any information on plans for the future, or if this seemingly awesome feature which they've worked hard to make special will be expanded to the point where an average player can hope to see the content.

They are taking it seriously. That's why we saw them double the land obtainable a while back. They have said they are working on adding more land when it's possible, but doing this requires a LOT of server space. We're not talking about MBs or even GBs. We're talking about probably hundreds, if not thousands of TBs worth of data that has to have a place to be physically stored. This means more leased space for servers, more coding to be done, hardware to be purchased. It's a lot of money. I want my own personal house. Like a LOT, but I'm patient enough and understanding enough to know that there's a lot of things to be considered from a business standpoint, first and foremost.

Reasons why it's not a viable system, especially on the long run, especially for personal housing..........

I know a game (starting with R) that allowed every person to have their own house. sure the graphics are shitty in this game, but what is it that's so different from final fantasy XIV, that the other game can have literally millions of houses, and final fantasy xiv cannot.

Lower graphics means less space being used on their servers, so there's more room for housing data.. That's the difference, storage space. As I said in my previous response to this thread - If you want EVERY person at the moment to have a house, you're talking about TERABITES worth of data being added. Not megabytes. Not gigabytes. Terabytes. Possibly even more given the amount of code that goes into each plot of land. They do this, and suddenly we're paying 20-25$/month instead of 15 just to cover the leasing on the added space they will need for servers.

Only 18m?? Prices on your server are nice.

The number 2 is terrible.

-Players should be allowed to unsub without being take anything from them.
-Forces house owners to sub or feel like they are going to lose something they worked hard to get.
-The problem should be solved by SE, not by players being punished.
-The decay will not solve the housing aviability problem, everything will return as it is now in just a few days after implemented.
-Gives SE an excuse to never solve the issue and see proper upgrades as true instanced personal housing, only added wards each 2 years or so.
-Will hurt house owners since server problem will not be adressed, very needed QoL solutions will be delayed cause of this (the much needed item limit increase on houses for example)
-House owners never were said they will have their houses taken away. (this is very important)

The decay will free just a handful of houses, after that they will get bought in a breeze by active players, and in a week or month depending on server or ward, we will be just at where we begin. Only now, all house owners feeling presured to sub and most of the population out of the housing system and SE very happy to see that they "did as community asked" and that not further fixing is needed.

Taxes. This game needs more gil-sinks anyway. Weekly, monthly, whatever timeline date that each FC/personal house owner has to pay a fee. Allow to flat out pay or escrow a three month period, if need be. Allow a 3-day warning if a payment is missed, to allow for mistakes. IF time runs out... plot goes up for sale, dump all items in a 'locker' like they do with personal rooms, and people can pick up their stuff IF they come back.

There are too many dead plots... plots that are taken but haven't seen use in over a year. This creates bland looking and boring neighborhoods. SE sure loves to claim they want an immersive feel (their excuse to not do 1v1 dueling, altho set areas like triad exist.....) yet they do nothing about how dead a lot of neighborhoods are. This video game company sure is good at double standards... oh and not listening to the playerbase. Sorry, that last part is wrong. They listen and respond quite well to the JP servers...

I agree, Alexander. Removing hard-earned houses from people is not the answer. SE needs to own up to the fact that they made a HUGE mistake when they implemented housing and do a revamp on the whole system.

GMs need to just open their eyes and look at a few issues. Some really inconsiderate FCs have created sub-FCs to buy more than one house. It's 100% obvious when its occurred in some cases.

It's really inconsiderate and rude considering there are people trying to get houses.

Actually a FC house is the master's house, a personal house is a degraded house.

IMO make all houses the same so personal houses could do what only FC houses could do now
(ie. sharing access)

18 mil for a medium plot is cheap!
