They came from the summer festival; the next one is coming up and they may be available again during this time. :)
If SE fallows like the last few events, the perveus years event items will be put in the cash shop only. And that will be the only way to get them now.
Yeah, for the first year of 2.0, all old holiday items were available from an in-game vendor for a few gil during the correct holiday season. Then mogstation optional items launched, and they greedily added all of the holiday items there instead. Reindeer and santa outfits, 1.0 yukatas, 1.0 pumpkin heads, 1.0 egg accessories and new year's helmets... I got them all free despite not playing 1.0. Now those items add up to about $60 on mogstation.
Yeah, I got them on this character back in ARR. :/ When I came back after having quit for a bit, I decided to reroll, cause my friend had switched servers and I wanted a fresh start...
... Really annoyed to learn that SE expects me to pay freaking real money for that crap. Even Blizzard, in all their moneygrabbing, doesn't do that. This is a subscription MMO, SE, NOT a f2p game.
[edit] Actually, annoyance doesn't even begin to cover it. This is unacceptable.
To buy it from the calamity NPC you need to have finished the event last summe 2014.
If you didn't, wait until next summer event to buy it from the moogle shop.
Santa outfit and Usagi Kabuto you can also buy in the MB for some tousand gil. Those are tradeable
Outdoor? yes
furnishing? no

See it this way. It reward those characters who did the event.
Bull. In a F2P game, this would be... not really enjoyable but within the realm of expectation. This is, however, a subscription-based MMO. There is NO excuse to lock all those items behind a cash shop. None. It's bad enough my new character can't get the Lightning event stuff (really, really should be account-bound), but for SE to then laugh and say, "Oh you thought you were playing a sub MMO? Nah, we just want even more of your money!" That's... no. No other sub-based MMO does this with their freaking holiday gear. Even Blizzard, as they continue to expand their cash shop in really unsettling ways, doesn't do this. This is very nearly unsub-immediately levels of horrible.
2.0 began with outdated seasonal gear selling for gil from seasonal vendors.
This was removed.
The gear began to be sold for $3-$5 a piece from mogstation.
The only way to SEE it, is that they were struggling to think of items for the mogstation. New players are now forced to pay over $50 for items that I obtained without doing the event. It was a deliberate change of heart, with cold hard cash being the only motivating factor.
Doesn't change the fact that these items are sold on mogstation. $5 for the santa outfit, $3 for a rabbit hat, of which there are 3. That's $14 they allow players to spend for items that can be obtained for free in-game by players who know better.
And for the love of god, the egg rings cost $3 a piece. $30 for the set of egg rings and egg hats. There is absolutely no excuse for that. Don't even try to defend it.
Yeah, I bought the 1.0 holiday event stuff on my original main (this character) back when I was first playing in 2.0, too. I expected that trend to continue, and was really looking forward to picking up some of those costume pieces on my new character.
I had no idea SE was going to be so exploitative with their cash shop. This is seriously upsetting. :|
Blizzard does have a cash shop. They don't really have as many events with as many cosmetic items, either. Otherwise, they probably would do the same thing, and they do have cosmetic things in the shop. Last I left, they had those helms in there and planning to add more. Almost every MMO sub or no, has a cash shop now. While I don't really like it, everyone is essentially following the model Blizzard created.
I am fully aware Blizzard has a cash shop. I was pointing out specifically that they do not put old event items up on the cash shop. You can always obtain them in-game from year to year to year.
No matter which way you cut it, this is absurd on SE's part. Old event items were previously obtainable with gil. They deliberately removed them and changed it so they could not be. That is NOT a good thing.
The worst part for ME is that I meet people who are curious about my outfits, and I have to tell them about the mogstation. I had a bunch of friends who wanted my halloween ghost costume, and they were all waiting for those vendors to appear last year. Then mogstation was launched in october, with the halloween outfits being the first set of items they were selling for money. So now my dream of a ghost army will only work if people I know hand over $5 for an outfit that isn't even glamorable.
I don't plan on letting my subscription die anytime soon, so it isn't a matter of me wanting things I don't have. I want OTHER PEOPLE to be able to acquire holiday stuff too. Especially halloween... there is no point in dressing up if everyone has the same costume for the year.
You had years to get them... if you didn't then you have an OPTION to get them via mog station... better then no option at all right?
I like that we get new items instead of the same items over and over every year.
This year we get one piece swimsuits for the girls and a 2 piece set for the boys.
How does one week in 2013 qualify as "years"? And we were getting new items AND old ones. Literally best of both worlds.
Summer 2013: New bathing suits, return of old bathing suits for gil
Halloween 2013: New ghost costumes, return of pumpkin heads for gil.
Christmas 2013: New snowman outfit, return of santa and reindeer for gil.
New years 2013: New horse helms, return of rabbit, snake, and dragon for gil.
Valentine 2014: Full valentine's day set, return of heart jewelry for gil
Easter 2014:A few new ugly egg hats and rings, return of old ugly egg hats and rings for gil.
The first year of 2.0 was perfect for holidays, and a major reason why I switched completely to FFXIV being my mmo of choice. New and old. Both. For everyone. Happy Holdiays!
2.0 did many things well (some wrong too, but lets be honest, the good really outweighed the bad) that made the game enjoyable, and a good game to play and support. It was fair for players/consumers, with fun being put as the first priority, and that's one reason as of why it was a success. Now... well... I don't agree with the direction that many things have been going, and what some people think about them. To each his own, I guess.
The way Blizzard does it is MUCH MUCH worse. Certain items that are not from yearly events are simply 100% unobtainable, even if that gear has a unique look.
In this expansion they flooded their cash shop with mounts that should CLEARLY be available in game. One example is the faerie dragon mount. You see NPCs using this mount all the time, and when you complete their faction's reputation grind you're rewarded with the ability to purchase......a reskinned wolf. To get the mount you have to shell out TWENTY DOLLARS.
All of Blizzards cash shop items are exclusive to it. It's questionable whether or not they have more work put into them then other items, but atleast they never remove something from the game only to add it into the cash shop afterwards.
Yeah but lets be realistic here. They also have over 200 (300 at this point perhaps) different mounts. Not like a few more or less will matter to anyone.
Besides, seasonal events are something to look forward to. If they just remove old rewards and put them into the cash shop what is there to look forward to?
At least they didn't REMOVE ITEMS FROM THE GAME to put them on the cash shop, as SE has done.
Gunspec explained this clearly. In 2.0 we could obtain both old items and new holiday items with gil. SE then decided to REMOVE all of those items from the game so that they could sell them on a cash shop. It's disgusting.
I would argue they essentially did. Those mounts would clearly have been granted to the player in previous expansions. You see the NPCs ride them about all the time, and even flightpaths will set you on them.
It definitely DOES matter. Are you telling me that if all the mounts in this expansion were simply a recolored chocobo, and they released 5 unique models and plopped them on the cash shop, you wouldn't be upset?
I can tell you the people that play WoW are QUITE upset. Mount collecting is pretty important to quite a few people.
I take that over never being available to begin with tbh.
Some Blizzard mounts look amazing and you know from the very first picture you will NEVER get them unless you pay real life cash. It doesn't matter if you played from the very first alpha of the game or not.
At least here you had a chance.
You were there when the stuff was introduced during a holiday event? Great for you, have some cool looking gear/mount.
You missed it because you didn't play? Well to bad. This is an evolving mmo, it's not going to wait for you.
Want to have it no matter what? Fine but you are going to pay irl cash.
Ideally it shouldn't even be in the cash shop. Rewarding your loyal costumers is a great thing and so weird when frowned upon (like in this very thread).
They did not. Those mounts have NEVER been obtainable in-game. FFXIV, however, set a precedent back in 2.0 that past holiday gear would continue to be available through gil purchase.
I don't play WoW and disagree with a lot of what Blizz has done to the game, but they have never outright removed content that was previously available in-game (and that had been part of a precedent of being obtainable in-game) and made it cash shop-exclusive. What SE has done is ridiculous.
I missed the 1.0 events and was still able to buy the old holiday gear back in 2.0. Suddenly I am unable to do that on a new character because SE has decided to become a greedy jerk.
This is the mindset of a F2P mmo, by the way. Last I checked, SE is still charging me month to month.
Before the cash shop you could obtain these items in-game with gil even if you didn't participate in said event the previous year. Most people thought that that was going to be a yearly thing (on each event), and it was cool, but nope, they removed said option. Do you really prefer the current option of paying real money over the previously existing gil one?
when do the summer festivals usually begin?
I remember that SE said 1.0 event items wouldn't be available in 2.x. Then they were, and 1.0 players were outraged.
I personally feel if you didn't participate in the event, you miss out entirely. Nothing in the cash shop; you do the event and get the item, or don't do it and get nothing. As an aside, I have one character from the 2.0 beta, one from just around the time of last year's Hatching Tide (2014) event and a new one. I'm not upset about not having the items I missed on all my characters, even though some would work well for their glamours.
Right now, the only things you can't get from previous events at all are the titles; and some of them are pretty good. I get asked where to get Golemancer all the time...
I honestly prefer it this way, you have an option to either be there or pay a tiny $5 for it later on. You could say that all these small $5 purchases add up, but are you going to buy every single ugly egg hat, or random earring? No, you likely won't. I prefer this over the Blizzard route of adding exclusive things to the cash shop that were never available in game. Buying them for gil would be preferred, but if it's this or exclusive cash shop items, I pick this.
Then you should be happy that the Lightning event stuff is not even in the cash shop ^^
SE is not obliged to bring old event items again in the first place.
During 1.0, if you missed an event then you couldn't get the item next year and not from a cash shop. You just missed it.
seasonal events =/= 7th umbral one-time events
Actually, blizzard does charge for optional items in their cash shop. They even integrated the cash shop into the game back during pandaria so you can buy pets and mounts without even having to tab out.
These items are OPTIONAL and have nothing to do with your fee to access the game servers.
Oh for... we are not talking about random items. We're talking specifically about holiday items that have previously been available for gil and where a precedent was already set that holiday items from past years would continue to be available for gil.
I really don't get how anyone besides SE could defend this decision. You're literally trying to justify them removing things from the game and charging more real life money for them in a game where you already pay a subscription every month. Why would you want to defend such a thing? It's ridiculous.
You said blizzard doesn't do this, when they do, had to correct you.
Honestly though, you should be happy SE at least gives you a way to get these things again. And for less than the price of a happy meal most of the time, no less. Holiday event items in WoW are gone forever if you didn't get them when they were originally available.
No... they are not gone forever. I played WoW long enough to know that. You get chances year after year to obtain everything.
And you didn't correct me. I stated that Blizzard doesn't remove previously accessible items and throw them on a cash shop. You pointed out something completely unrelated. That is not correcting me. That's not understanding the argument being presented.
