The Cutcenes are nice but...

I was thinking. Maybe in the future you could let our characters do something cool in them? Nearly every cutscene has NPC's causing explosions to going off, NPCs jumping and flipping around, casting spells, badass fights and gunshots. What do our characters do in pretty much every cutscene?

• Get knocked unconscious
• Get pushed to the side by an NPC
• Stand around scared/open mouthed
• Run
• Slowly walk... alot

The coolest thing I think my character has ever done was point a flintlock pistol (and not shoot it), and hell that was in like the first or second mission...

I for one thought we were playing a game where our characters were suppose to be heroic. Would be nice if we could do something cool for once in some cutscenes, instead of watching every other character in these scenes doing stuff that makes us look completely pathetic.

It's understandable, but there's two sides to the table. We might look like idiots in cutscenes, but in reality our heroism is shown while playing the game - fighting and defeating bosses and the like.

That being said, I do agree that we do look like bumbling fools in most cutscenes. However, you should also keep in mind that the game is really just starting to come around. I'm sure we'll see some interesting cutscenes as the game progresses.

I Agree with Endemerrin - out heroism is shown throughout the game. To be fair, I like it the way it is now, it's understated. It really makes me as a player feel more like my character, an observer.

I for one hope the devs consider the OP request. I agree with it.

I don't know. Just not a fan of seeing my character stand around twiddling their thumbs. My companions in cutscenes are getting hammered and the best a Rank50/Archer can do is get knocked out or run? I don't need to dominate every cutscene. But show my character take a few exciting shots or something.

I fought my way to 50, when my companions are in trouble I am not going to run or fall over or stand their with my jaw hanging open. I am going to try and help them, seems like we should do more in cutscenes.

I am a Red Wizard that cures all the time, hardly casting destructive spells. These cutscenes only make me feel worse about myself.

Don't underestimate the power of RP walking.

I dunno, I just did a mission where my character rushed in to assist a downed individual with a really intense look on his face. I thought that was pretty cool.

I suppose it's probably rather rare, though. More stuff like that in cutscenes would be nice.

it's called being an underdog? I guarantee that by the end of the main story all of us will look like complete badasses.

Well, for many of the cutscenes, you are using the Echo. It seems like you are an observer because you ARE one.

And really, the idea is that we are all helping and doing our part, but we can't ALL be heroes. The real heroes are the NPCs that we as a mass playerbase get to help out. If this was a single-player FF we wouldn't be the main character. That would probably be Thancred.

I'm not asking for my character to do backflips and matrixly dodge attacks in every cutscene.

But some "stand your ground" action would be nice instead of /blink /shock /flee.

I love how our ill equipped and useless companions are getting a lot of attention particularly in the very last mission. I don't want the game to develope a story for us, but I would like the ability to make a decision during them. Aside from that, quests should be different from leves. So far the NPC's speak a little, and a blue text box opens just like a leve. Quests from outside should have a bit more flavour and excitement to them just like in XI.

That's the difference between them. In a sense XIV is lagging behind XI in that flavour. Even in the missions for CoP you were Prishe's confidant and I rather liked that. It was a reward to the mundane leveling and time sinks to get there and experience these stunning visuals and mater like that in a storyline. But in the last few missions in XIV it's just...you stand there, and without an idle emote even. It's very awkward to be honest watching all these NPC's actually at least twiddling their thumbs while our own characters stand stiffly, not even relaxed or looking around.

If anything I'd like more varied responses in our characters rather than...Looks stunned! Looks horrified! Looks angry!

In the storyline missions I would like to back up my companion or do some cool class/job specific actions. particularly with the advent of jobs coming up. Since a lot of those things are quested, better CS's for those! yes it's early on but if all quests in the future resemble 1-time-only-leves well...That's not really progress.

inb4 "XI had years to do all of that", XI should have been the foundation for XIV. These are things the game should have had in mind since Day 1. But instead, due to all the impossible bitching things were rushed out the front door before they even had a chance to really be great.
After they're done rushing out the battle system tweaks they should spend a lot more time on these things. Particularly quest CS's and character involvement during missions.

One thing I really like is how your whole party is represented in instance dungeon cut-scenes. It's nice when the whole team is acknowledged.

Can't help but agree 100%. There are definitely more important things, I just hope our characters get more love in future story/job quests.

Something like Mass Effect 2's Paragon/Renegade interrupts, or even the dialog tree, with tangible benefits beyond "cool action", would be a good feature to have.

Yes. Being forced to lose in the Ul'dah Arena is heroic. Getting our ass beat by a wimp Maruader is heroic. Watching our NPC partner get his ass beat by Van Baelsar is heroic. Parleying with slaves is heroic. Beating up marmots to let a little girl get a lighthouse is heroic. /emoting at NPCs to make sure they're your friend is heroic.

Granted Ifrit battle will be some what redeeming, but don't try to defend the cut scenes we have now...

What do you think OP? Are they supposed to make a different cut scene for every class? What else could we possibly do other than stand there? The minute we use a weapon everyone is pointing at their screen and freaking out "MY CHARACTER DOESN'T USE A SWORD!" It's impossible for them to make cutscenes that involve action other than running, and to be honest, I'm sure there are some players that are butthurt their players are doing things they don't approve of as it is now.

The fact you have cutscenes at all is incredible, and a lot more than WoW ever did.

I agree with this makes it more custom. Unlike ffxi when you seemed to be a solo badass lol which we were but still love seeing the group do their thing.

I actually don't think it would be very difficult to do just that. Most cutscenes are not pre-rendered.

Yeah, I agree with this. I was totally underwhelmed by the R46 story quest cutscene where literally everyone else other than you and your companion looks like a badass. I don't really fancy having my character be the Vaans and the Penelos (in FFXII, anyway) of the world, the "observers to great events". I want to be IN the great events.

Even though Aion did a bunch of stuff wrong, that's one thing it did do right: your character was represented as a heroic, powerful figure, even when you weren't instantly "pwning" your enemies. YOU were the main character in the story quests, not Thancred, Y'shtola, Yda and Papalymo, who thus far seem like THEY are the actual heroes of the game.

Uhm this is an MMO, things are not just handed to you AND it is multiplayer. those characters pushing you to the side are the real heroes on your server. and if maybe you learned how to hold a pistol you would have got to fire it and see the good version of that scene.

SE did a truely remarkable job making cutscenes incorporate multiple players

I'd argue that things are just handed to us, but even so. XI was a lot more subtle about it but still involved the character in the great storyline. But your enthusiasm for playing the tree in next year's school production is adorable.
Honestly though, they can't stick us on the shelf for every single cut scene. Not when we are more powerful than our companions.

I'm not sure how much I can enjoy a game where the NPC's rush in to save us all "Ohoho~ how quaint. Don't worry we'll handle this, peasant." Or how the other NPC's just send us in as canon fodder. The all seeing observer role is tiresome after the nth CS with us gasping in horror all blurred out on the sidelines. XI did just as good of a job during all of its expansions with a multiplayer game.

Besides, we have a Hero leader board now. If the game is going to acknowledge players every day or so then why can't they involve our characters in the CS's even more? We've certainly seen more than most and we are not just careless citizens taking a walk through hoards of Garleans in need of rescue by the so called tragic heroes from each city.

But ah well. Different strokes for different folks.

I like the way it is now but there should just be 10x more cutscenes everywhere in general. I think the NPC quests currently need better storytelling the most.

The presentation of the story just seems cheap compared to the XI NPC quest-lines and mini-stories.

If not class specific, at least race specific. If not the hero, than at least as much as an equal as possible instead of shunted off to the side. I know we don't have all the information we need but in the future that will change. Frankly I find the heroes lacking so far and having them appear so suddenly is...meh. Also we've seen unique emotes already in missions and class quests already so it's not impossible to have our characters do something other than to sit in the player-idle motion for eternity until it's time to nod or look concerned. Which is the biggest problem I think. We've come so far and yet we're still mannequins.

FF is also known for its CS's, to compare it to wow is a little funny.

Yes and no. There is a way to make scenes better without having to spend time scripting an entire cutscene out.

Okay lets say we have a cutscene broken up into 7 segments/cuts.

1: Player and Path companion enter Mor Dona
2: Player and Path Companion Ambushed by Three Garleans. Path companion dodges an attack, Player is hit by a lightning bolt and thrown to the ground (Regardless of Class/Job)
3. Path companion runs to players aid, reaches down to help player. Player shrugs off the attack and notices an incoming attack and shoves companion out of the way...
4: After shoving companion out of harms way the player character...

• Knocks 3 arrows (Trifficate) and launches them at the Garlean attacking the Archers companion. [Segment only plays if player is an archer going into cutscene]
• Players screams and Hurls his Battleaxe from a prone position taking out a Garlean. [Segment only plays if player is a Marauder going into cutscene]
• Throws his shield up and blocks the incoming attack, with his sword arms jams a blade into the Garleans side [Segment only plays if player is a Gladiator going into cutscene]
• Sends an engulfing flame at the Garlean, setting him ablaze [Segment only plays if player is an Conjuror going into cutscene]
• Reaches for a stone and hurls it at the Garleans head, striking true and knocking him unconscious in a single well aimed shot [Segment only plays if player is a Fisher going into cutscene]

Personally, I have never played WoW and don't give a crap about any comparisons between this game and WoW.

This is a Final Fantasy game. Guess what games I do compare it to?
