This really needs to happen now with even more Jobs.
Need? Or want?
they already decrease the cost of weapon. It's perfect where it is atm.
Yeah you can't share AF gear but it just force you to main a class
Also you don't need the gear to clear anything else other than savage alex
i'm fine with 450 cap now. It doesn't matter to me if it takes more days anyways.
Seriously, the pacing is crap.
2.2 weeks of Esoterics for a single weapon? If you want to get one for every job... it's literally impossible to do so before they become content-irrelevant. That's so uncool, man. I don't get it. What's the point of dragging out single-class gearing to THIS extent when every one has access to multiple jobs and likely gears up more than one job?
And, I mean... three weeks! THREE WEEKS before you can get a single upgraded weapon! JUST ONE! Really? Really, really? The dripfeed has gone too far! (Yes, I know it was even worse with the 1300-tomestone weapons in 2.x, but it was bad then and it's STILL bad now!)
It feels like it defeats the whole point of having carrots on a stick when it takes that long to receive a single carrot. And it's only a carrot, not even a slice of cake!
It's hard to resist the urge to just straight-up un-sub and wait until there's some actual content to consume. At least in 2.x we had the AF armor quests and the relic weapon quest in addition to the tomestone gear (yes, AF armor becomes irrelevant quickly, but you do realize the only reason a lot of people want them in the first place is for the glamour, right?). Now, since I'm not in an Alexander Savage static and don't enjoy even the idea of farming Alexander NM, I'm just left twiddling my thumbs pondering what's next.
Well, 3.1 is what's next, I suppose. Guess I'll do things that I actually find fun in the meantime!
The "Need or want" question is not a matter of semantics... You WANT it, it is not needed. They only unrestricted Poetics and Law so that people could gear up, Esoterics is the same as every other tomestone that has been for the highest tier of bought gear.
If you want to gear all your alt jobs up without the cap then run Alexander Savage!
We really don't.
Meh 12870 now for all 13 jobs
Back in 2.4 it was 13000 to get weapons for all 10 jobs
I could really care less about them changing it if they did I'd just grind it and be done you could also be there would be people complaining about how hard it is to cap when they did increase it.
Well, that escalated quickly...
I've never reached the cap before... Wish I had more time to play than just 2 hours a day lol. So I couldn't care less about the weekly cap, but I wouldn't mind an increase of it either. :D Just don't remove it completely, please (not that it would happen anyway xD)
It's fine where it is SE learned from their mistakes with the 300 cap, would you rather have that? It's fine where it's at I have Alex normal and lvling alts, doing extremes with friends i'm not being tied down to wait for an upgrade while i'm getting upgrades. It's nonsensical what you're arguing either way you're waiting even if you have 600 esoterics you'd have 1200 which is a weapon in 2 weeks still...so really it makes no difference just cap, wait, do Alex savage and normal. Only thing I wish was more dungeons but I can wait for that too.
I rather like the 450 cap. Expert/Trial roulette each day and I'm easily capped within the week and have time to work on other things.
I wonder when the EN forum can mature into a place where everyone's opinions are respected and you either argue sensibly or stay out of the thread. Meme replies are like..."I am unable to say something more catchy but Senpai Please Notice Me---oh hey ma look I'm on TV---so I'm gonna post this meme."
Yeah, this.
My SCH is in full Law gear with 4 upgrades to i180.
So I just jump on the SCH to run Expert and Trial, maybe a hunt or two, or when there is something harder to do with the FC, and then I can focus on leveling/gearing other jobs.
Win/Win IMO.

One really doesn't need all jobs geared to i200 within the first month or two, you really only "need" it on a job that you want to run Savage with (and the first two floors are apparently doable without those as well...), for the rest there is absolutely no rush to get Eso gear, if you only want it for looks it doesn't matter whether you will get it in a month or in 5.
I think weekly cap is here for purpose you have 2 try out the raid with weakest ilvl as possible. If you can not beat the raid in this week, every week it will be easier with better gear. Once 3.1 pop, gearing will get easier with hunts and 24 man raid and you can upgrade your items. You will slowly gearing up for more challenge beating raids. If everybody would get everything in the first week, bosses would die in the first week and ppl would get bored. After 3.2 tome cap will be removed anyway if you want these gears for the glamour purpose.
I really don't understand these posts. 450 is fine as you can do one job. You plain on taking more then one job to savage?
Really only reason to have the gear. Also if you are doing savage you can just get savage gear for your alts. Also for best in slot it's mix of savage and new tombs so will not be all tomb items.
Having the weapons at just over 900 seemed like a bit of a jerk move. Not sure about ast/mch getting their af from it either, since players not maining them can't get the class defining looks, at least not until the next tome tier comes out.
Otherwise, eh. It's the usual ilvl trickle.
I think the easiest solution would be having us spend tomes to unlock the option to buy a certain item type from the vendor. Give Rowena 900 tomes and you can now purchase any of the weapons for say 10k each, give her 450 more to unlock the option to buy helms etc. This would maintain the pacing for gearing your first job, but make alts much more feasible.
some groups have people fill multiple roles as needed due to various circumstances. Small groups requiring a pug, groups where members go on vacation but others still want to run, finding replacements, etc. Having versatile players with multiple jobs geared makes things easier. TOME gear is the easiest to get but is gated behind time. Sure players can still be versatile, but it kind of sucks if, for example, I would have to change from a 200 tank to a 180/190 healer. The stat values for the ilvl increases this time around are pretty substantial.
the easiest solution would be to make the weekly cap based on job and not character.
I'm act being very mature compared to some other post all over this mess we call forums. I mean every day it's the same thing drama complaints complaints complaints complaints. So yes i have fun with it btw there has been threads about this http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...4-Esoteric-cap
The weapon will be replaced/ superseded by the new relic in 3.1, so I wouldn't waste any tomes on that. It's more like aomething to splurge on down the road when everything else is bought. In sure the price will be cheaper by then, too.
Relic 3.0 quest when?
So I can get the SMN breastplate first.
What they should've done:
Doman gear should've been the Esoterics gear
AF2 should've been the LAW gear.
Why do I say this?
Because now we have, yet another situation where one of the games strongest features - the ability to do multiple classes, is severely limited by a weekly cap. Put the grind into uncapped content - not into the capped content. Being able to gear multiple tanks is a benefit for everyone, but now - it's very likely that in order to raid, you're going to have to choose which job you want to do and make sure you for absolutely no reason under any circumstance ever leave that job. --;
imo we were never in the current situation ever before. people always say BUT MYTH WAS THE SAME back then. IT WAS NOT guys. myth gear didnt require 1000 tomes to buy the weapon you got it without any tomes for killing all 3 ex mode primals. yes the myth gear was job exclusive too.
the biggest difference? myth gear DIDNT REQUIRE A UPGRADE on top of it beeing class specific gear. it was on the same ilvl as coil gear was the second you bought a piece you were done with that atleast. yes currently those upgrades are blocked by savage but we all know come 3.1 this will change like it always had and having to upgrade each piece per job is twice as much work as before to do for the same reward.
they did a good job at adjusting the weapon costs and removing that bs allagan stone which would only drop from A3 and force everyone on rav weapons till probaly 3.1 weapons are FINE currently. since they were always job only. they reduced price of weapons from 1300 to 990 which is a good pricetag given the most important gear slot.
now for armors. what they should have done was not to raise the weekly cap. all that would do is create more need for farming tomes per week which is not causal friendly which is probaly what they had in mind when they set that cap too.
what they should have done instead was too adjust the armor prices the same way the weapon was adjusted. lowring the price by about 25% like they did it with the weapons. that would have been ok given its gear only for one job. THIS DOES NOT HOLD TRUE for ACCS. only armor should be cheaper. accs are still no job unique items.
for now i am happy ill be able to get that awesome looking drk weapon within 10 days from now without having to clear A3 savage for it -.- would have hated it to be stuck with ravana weapons till nearly 3.1 probaly when relic is coming and will be likely i210 anyway.
Wow... um... No. It is exactly the same. The only difference is you can BUY a weapon. You couldn't buy a weapon with Myth, you had to get your Relic... which could actually take more than 2.2 weeks if you couldn't clear Titan (Hard). There were people paying big money for Titan clears back then.
Oh... and we were limited to 300 per week, not 450.
Eso is EZ mode compared to Myth. And the Eso gear upgrades from Savage aren't needed... it's still ilvl 200 without... more than enough for any content.
I can understand the argument of wanting a higher cap for other classes. They game wants you to level multiple classes but the current system in place doesn't really support multiple classes in mind. If they were every to raise the cap I would say 500 and that's it so it shaves off a week on the weapon. For some one who mains one job this system isn't so bad but there are people who enjoy leveling and gearing multiple jobs in order to be ready for different situations if something arises. I don't see them changing the cap but I would like it to be increased for those who wish to gear more than one job. If it was 500 at least we would be able to get a piece a week (not including chest and pants) compared to now where they just give you enough where you can't reach it which kinda annoys me sometimes. Also the fact that Eso makes it worse because it job specific really slows it down because now instead of having one set of gear for multiple jobs you need to get gear for each of them.
Based on what OP said I believe 600 is way too much for a cap and I believe 500 would be a better point. Some people just like leveling and gearing multiple jobs and having a cap just gets them annoyed. Let's be honest gloves and such cost 495 and then we have a cap of 450? I honestly see no point of this just making the gear grind longer for just one class. If SE feels confident in the content they add im pretty sure it shouldn't take up to 2/3 months just to gear one class. Some people will disagree and this ok everyone has their own opinions but really guys if OP thinks that cap should be changed respect their opinion and just say you disagree no need to rip into them and use memes.
I agree with OP, but here's how I think it should be handled. Increase the weapon price so it still takes you 3 weeks to obtain. Keep the rest of the gear at the same price, or even lower it even further. It'll still make you choose a main, but your alts won't suffer too greatly.
yeah and that is another contradiction to one of their main selling points (back in the days) that you have one character and yet can play all jobs with it. That worked in ffxi but not here.
I rather have 1 character, one class and a common chest or something, like other mmos. If they can't do it right they better leave it entirely.
I just hope they're dyeable straightaway, but I must be dreaming for it to happen.
