Leveled all my jobs to 50 but haven't really touched melee DPS since. Mulling over which to bring to 60.
While I refamiliarize myself with them would love to hear how some 60's feel about melee jobs. What do you find easy/hard or fun/annoying to play and why?

I like playing as Ninja only problem i have with it is Mudra Lag, i tried levelling DRG and MNK, DRG i just found boring and Monk was fun but alot of moving.

Same, out of all 3 melee I really enjoyed Ninja, but can't even make it the main cause of extreme mudra lag. My next bet would definitely be Dragoon, they're currently the strongest melee dpswise from what I've read, so it's a good option. But if you have little to no lag issues then I'd definitely recommend ninja.

Drg has the highest damage potential but is also most punished by mechanics with that 60s recast on botd. Ninja and monk have abilities to better recover from invulnerable periods from the boss. So smacking a dummy with a drg should get higher numbers than smacking a dummy with a ninja but that doesn't mean you will get the same results in a raid or primal.

DRG are currently the strongest dps when played well. I prefer the way Ninja flows, though. I'm lucky in that I don't have much Mudra lag, which helps. I've been debating which one to level next myself.

Just wondering why's it seem just some people get extreme mudra lag. Since I've upgraded from a ancient PS3 to a ps4 I don't seem to have lag at all not even mudra lag.

Love the feel and complexity of ninja, hate the mudra lag.
Love the mobility and the straight forwardness of drg but hate that everywhere you turn there's another dragoon.

I played Monk in ARR and now I play Dragoon in HS. It's a really fun job to play. I tried to lv up a bard once but find his gameplay really boring.

Are you confusing Ninja with Monk?
I personally enjoy the Monks positionals. It just feels good and fast paced to '' dance around ''.
I prefer Casters in most MMOs, but I really like what they've done with melee in a Realm Reborn. Not so much with Casters sadly. I think that Casters feel a bit clunky in comparison to other MMOs :/.
I dunno, punching someone at the side like Snap Punch is pretty damn efficent :P. I think it makes total sense why a Monk would '' dance around ''. -

I main warrior but my dps alt is a mnk and its by far the most flexible dps in terms of damage, positional, and play style, which I love. Ninja positionals only matter once every 30 seconds or so. You should be standing behind the mob anyways. Move to flank for armor crush and immediately move back. It's not as tough as people are making it out to be, and you're always going to want to use Trick Attack over Sneak Attack in group combat.

Having same problem deciding between drg and nin. Used to play bard, but just hate the way it was changed - I liked the mobility. Melee seems like the way to go, but dislike the positionals. Nin has fewer, but the really bad AoE and TP problems make me think drg is a better choice. Sooo hard to decide.

MNK IMO is the simplest of them all, because the core rotation is short and easy to follow. You simply rotate between 2 "paths" of combos all the time, and replace the last one with a dot if that needs reapplying. Very few skills overall. MNK's challenges are simply to keep up GL, and hitting all positional attacks that are possible. Positional attacks are easy IMO, but since pretty much all weaponskills have that positional bonus, you have a slightly harder time getting maximum DPS on certain fights.
The thing is though, I hear players saying MNK is complex because you need to constantly move from flank to back, and maybe you think that too, and want the job with least amount of movement... Then NIN is probably a better option, but it shouldn't really be a problem. -

I'm going to offer a different opinion.
Melee DPS is my favorite role in MMOs and I would describe Monk as being 'too much'. For me. At first glance, it's rather simple. Opo-opo form, Coeurl Form, Raptor Form. Simple. When I was low level I was worried the class would be too boring. I didn't realize positionals were a thing until someone pointed them out to me, so I learned about them late. At first I was apprehensive but grew to enjoy them well enough.
Monk also has a number of cooldowns, some DOTs, and off-GCDs to consider. But mostly it's the Greased Lightning stacks that are my problem. It's personally hard for me to mind positionals, dodge enemy attacks, weave in extra skills, remember cooldowns, and mind GL stacks.
I was sadly under the impression that "flanking" meant "being behind the enemy", never once noticing the distinction in wording on the skills until I learned....in Hatali hard that was not the case. Yes, very newb and embarrassing but in any case I learned late. And while that was ages ago, positionals still don't come naturally to me. I do have to think about moving. Less so if it's tank and spank, but more so if the fight is mechanic heavy and stressful.
My point is what may have been a simple class became increasingly more complex. It would be a good amount of complexity if there were no GL stacks. GL stacks, I feel, are ultimately what makes me unhappy with monk. I find it stressful in a "not-fun" way to maintain them. I don't want to have to babysit a buff to be competitive DPS.
Thus, I find monk is too complex for me and not suited for my personal taste. Which is why I have chosen not to level it as my main for HW. It is definitely fast-paced and exciting. I admit my inability to enjoy the class comes from my own personal limitations. I'll probably go back and level it just in case the new skill additions really do make GL less of a pain but it's not a priority at that point.
Anyway, just wanted to share my side in case anyone else feels the same way. -

However, I let the community shy me away from the job by letting them tell me that if I can't stay top DPS even with Ballad or Paeon up, then I suck. After hearing that so long, I went WHM. Since then, I have tried DRG (which I liked) but enjoy NIN more simply because it's like I'm "just there" lol...Quote:

My love affair with DRG is beginning to end. I really don't like maintaining a persistent buff ala Blood of the Dragon/Greased Lightning. You combine that with the RNG of Wheeling Thurst/Fang and Claw and its part of the reason why I've drifted toward being a DRK main. I think the only melee dps I still enjoy oddly enough is NIN, and thats because its the easiest of the 3 to maintain its persistent buffs with no nonsense during phase transitions.
plus there's the added joy of having the top dps get mad at you cause you nerfed his hate and put him further down the hate list :D -
