Easy way to get more subscribers.

Put some heavy focus on improving character looks customization! From weapon/armor skins, through much better dyeing system up to character faces details!

Simple right? Why is it so important? Because GW2. Their end game is customizing your character in every aspect cosmetics included and making it truly your avatar.

You would have a monster of an argument to get cosmetics oriented players over - no cash shop nickling & diming every time you want to change hairdo or fix your nose.
You would strike a deathblow to their cash shop model here...had you had something to strike with. Instead customization is crippled compared to what GW2 offers and one of best arugments "why FF XIV" is hiding in the closet under the sign "what sucks about FF XIV".

A-net ain't sleeping - they're tauting that they will deliver real combat end - game content in their xpansion. You better not sleep this one over for your own sake, SE.

Advertise more? Shatner, Ozzy, Mr.T, and Norris did wonders for Blizzard.

There's no sub problem. Glamours are in a good place (Minus the 'actual' glamour system). We've got one of the best looking games, with amazing looking gears. They are constantly adding new hair models and such.

It's a good place and to be honest I don't think your 'cosmetic crew' is really a worthy thing. I can see masses coming for PVE, PVP or whittled. But 'too look totes bae'? Some, sure...but beyond what we have? Nah. (Except the adding of a glamour book!)

Obligatory: Go back to GW2. XIV is in a fine place. 'Your own sake, SE' is laughable at best. It's arguably the most prominent and leading MMORPGs currently in the market.

Easy way to get more subs... let them keep doing what they're doing.

I actually unsubbed a few months before 3.0 because I was bored and the game just felt like a dead end to me. I came back for 3.0 hoping for something exciting and nothing. Don't get me wrong I loved the story and questing and leveling the two jobs and gathering classes I played but after its all said and done I'm back at that dead end. I'm guessing MMO's are no longer my thing, this is the same thing that happened to me with FFXI. They need much more variety and less lock outs or they will not survive.

Title is self explainatory -new susbscriptions. I'm taking a fair guess those who seek real battle end game content, have already flocked here. To get lotsa new subs you need to strike from a new angle.

And if you didn't notice it yet, this game is not alt friendly. So all the more the ability to customize your character deeply matters, a lot. Because that's what you're stuck with for a looooong time, so you better like what you got there.

Don't underestimate the allure of playing a character your way - be it via builds in combat or via dyeing & cosmetics in town. It's what lets GW2 thrive so well despite lack of real end-game. Well that and no subs. With advanced cosmetics this game would make a huge leap in proving that P2P is the superior model.

Combat builds are a lie. Everyone knows this by now. Except a few snowflakes. Which are not snowflakes but frozen tears.

I do agree that this game needs more cosmetics. But again, if their resources are limited then it's better to spend on something else..

More character customization options is always a plus.

There is nothing simple or easy about revamping character model systems or the systems that effect how dyes and gear work. Infact from a development side of things its a massive job that is both complex and hard.

You should have said a complex and hard method of increasing subscribers.

Its bad to assume that features that exist in one game engine can easily be retrofitted into another games engine. Further GW2 is a very different game and a lot of fans of FF14's game style wont find GW2's gameplay appealing. Really I don't see them as direct competitors. The games are too different.

Its a far more customizable game (Along with TERA, WoW, and BnS) than FFXIV is and it has the added bonus of not hiding simple dye and gear change systems behind player professions like in FFXIV. I click in a menu, pay a very slight fee and my gear is changed, dyeing is free. FFXIV, I have to go to the AH, buy specific grades and my armor type prisms and then I can change my gear. Its rather annoying and I do hope they simplify it in the future.

I'm not saying GW2 is a better game (it offers different styles of gameplay and more open world) and I FFXIV is still my main game but FF still has a lot of questionable gear customization options in place that seem archaic just for the sake of being so.

TLDR: I hope they simplify the hell out of the dyeing and gear change systems in a future expansion. Maybe make material a more friendly system as well that doesn't require professions.

You really think everyone is going to let Arenanet pull the wool over their eyes again? GW2 was just one huge collection of promised lies that didn't pan out well for the liars.

Funny, one of the main reasons I left GW2 was because it was hyper-focused on cosmetics and had no substantial endgame content.

We'll see what the lore gives us on this, but personally i think such a split choice for the player would be huge.

Really GW2?... I hated that game cause of all the broken promises before that game came out.. Yes I loved the customization but it's stopped there...

They have way more to fix before customization even though Id love some changes

If SE wants to get more subscribers perhaps it would be better to not discourage them from signing up during the free trial. I was running around with a friend who was trying the game out and he kept rattling off the RMT tells he was getting. Someone who despises RMT isn't likely to stick around when the advertising is so blatant.

People stick around in a game for various reasons. Some care about cosmetics, some don't. Some care about raids, some don't. Some enjoy leveling slowly, some don't. I don't think anyone loves RMT ads.

WoW? Lol no. WoW has no dyes, you can't choose your eye color or shape or eyebrows or mouth or body type, etc. In fact there are no sliders at all. And yet of all the games you mentioned including this one, it has the most subs. Character aesthetics only take a game so far.

The number one reason new players give for not sticking with FFXIV is the GCD and slow game play, and I'm not sure anyone at Square Enix is in a hurry to change that. I am pretty sure they're not concerning themselves with overtaking the MMO monster that is WoW because they could easily have done so. I think they're more concerned with making the best FF game they can and staying true to the franchise.

Cosmetics are what F2P and B2P games need to keep generating revenue to stay alive. If you hadn't noticed thats ALL GW2 does. They ignore core gamers and PvP players because those do not generate any money for them. WvW gets ZERO attention and after the new expansion is will get its update and be 100% ignored AGAIN for 2 years.

To try and pass GW2 off as a means for FFXIV to make more money is a joke. No one I know that played GW2 at release played it for more than 2-3 months because everyone who is serious about playing an MMO quickly realized that GW2 still to this day has absolutly no reliable End Game or progression.

Getting your Orange Set took a few days and spending the extra time after that was cosmetic. The Orange set you could craft had the same stats as the dungeon sets and grinding dungeons in GW2 was AWFUL because their idea of fun was making everyone a DPS and zerging a room again and again until you cleared it because the game had no mechanics at all so people exploited them.

FFXIV is making a lot of money and it keeps growing at a fast pace. Isn't it funny that every other new sub based MMO has failed and gone F2P while FFXIV continues to grow and succeed? SE is doing something right and its the content and gear progression updates they have dished out every 3-4 Months for 2 years as part of your sub.

Other Devs want you to run and gear up alts instead which most people have no interest in. SE's method is keep people playing their mains if thats all they want to do. Here I am 2 years later and still playing and I have only ever really played White Mage and now I have changed to Dark Knight.

That might work for a limited number but if they really want to increase sub numbers dramatically they would come up with a better pvp system.

Disagree, in that case the 'game' for me, is finding the optimal build. I find this as fun, if not more fun, than most other content. I definitely find it more fun than grinding away the same dungeon/raid/fate over and over with the identical build and rotation as every other person.

Zenif, I doubt this will get new subs, but I agree that further aesthetic customization would be great. I would definitely prefer Wildstar's costume system over GW2/FFXIV's wardrobe/glamour system. I would like GW2's dye system. I like FFXIV's hair system (summoning aesthesitican).

Haven't you heard? Adding more character customization would crash SE's delicate, fragile, little server. And right now the server is already at maximum capacity. I'm not making that up, that's the dev's actual answer to player request for fixing Aura customization.

All they ask is to be able to select a face from different horn preset (currently Aura faces are tied to each horns), yet it is impossible to mix up features that are already in the game, let alone making more new ones.

Have to agree. SE just doesn't know how to make a PVP system that is truly engaging for the PVP fans. This is one place where I wish Yoshi P and the dev team would take a look at what LoL does and try to emulate it - it might become something closer to what XIV needs to draw the MOBA crowd in.
