Are DPS check mechanics too biased against mages?

After trying Bismarck EX yesterday as a SMN, I cannot help but wonder if the devs are designing these DPS checks with a bias towards melee and (to some degree) ranged attack jobs. Those who play SMN know that getting our damage out requires time (I can only imagine what BLMs are going through) and part of our arsenal is not immediate damage. It almost seems a lot to ask mages to be able to burn down the Sanuwas when we're saddled with long casting times and those damned tornadoes giving us little room for error.

Run to where you spawn in on the arena, or on the opposite side where you're ready to jump onto Bismark's back. Guaranteed no tornados there. You have plenty of time too to manually DoT up one of the snakes before it puts the debuff up, and if it's the opposite snake, just Tri-disaster it with DWT up (if you use DWT at the start of the back then theoretically you'll have it up again early, if not at the start of the DPS check), if it's the same, Contagion and go about your business

Wouldn't hurt to let casters move while casting.

ppl save CDS in bismark once u learn the encounter , u will be more than fine , SMN have some awesome burst now ¬¬

and how is bismark better for ranged when u need to be on melee range to dmg the boss? u mean tornado phase? there are safe spots for casters that u can use to nuke to your hearth content

I'd argue SMN are the most equipment dps for both ex primal fights.

Man... as a BLM, I LOVE the snake phase of that fight. Step 1: Find safe spot (hint: where you start). Steps 2-???: Nuke the ever-lovin' hell out of the snakes.

The boss phase is nothing compared to the add phases. In my experience so far I usually have to run further to get on his back if I don't save a jump.

I remember in 1.0 you could run all over the place while casting then they took that out fast.

We SMN are amazing for breaking the chitin with properly timed cooldowns. While a good melee will beat me overall we still hold our own with the sanuwas. The tornados move in a slash from one side to the other. I try to watch out and see where the tornado is headed and move before it gets to me. Often that csn save me time later allowingme to choose when I interrupt my rotation.

SMN is amazing dps and can more than pull their weight in Bis EX.

Blame the player, not the job.

dps checks are biased against bad players....

You also have to realize that some classes shine in burst moments, while others shine in sustained. So far I have not encounter any dps check that wasn't easily beatable with a balanced group setup and decent players.

Bismark EX was practically made for summoners as you can always DoT everything on the field.

I main summoner and dealing lots of damage quickly is super easy with our new abilities.
During killboss phase make sure you can enter dreadwyrm trance, dot up, buff pet, fester, ruin 3, deathflare.
During adds just dot up everything and your damage spikes like crazy. Ifrits shield is good too.

I made us wipe twice though my first time because fiirst I put up shadowflare which killed bubbles when they were supposed to live. 2nd time I was all like "okay no bubble of dps this time..." *uses bane*
And ofc we got lightning weather again...

Maybe blms have a harder time, but summoner is great in bismarck ex

You have to really time your slide casts well and take some risks.
I do it all the time and my main is BLM DPS.
I haven't done any of the EX's to give feedback.
But those who use to complain about slide casting...That thing is your best friend.

I would argue that there's a bias towards BLM - you will never see BLM have a DPS problem. Yoshi P has said it's his favorite class, so it's doubtful they'd nerf it.

Anything else, well, the message is "git gud scrub" or "learn to play it the correct way" until the devs realize there's a problem with the class.

c'mon you're just fishing for argument :P

BLM/SMN should be entering burn phases prepared (All stacks up and ready to press all the buttons on Bismarck), you will be top threat if you're doing it correctly

And SMN is the one Job that can get away with the one mechanic no one else can: DPSing both snakes simultaneously

Only with knockbacks tho. With anything else its a disadvantage.

I never feel that SMN is holding me back when I could play a melee instead. Unless you're specifically wanting to use Ruin 3 while in Dreadwyrm Trance, SMN has no problem throwing out instant Ruin 2s while avoiding mechanics and no MP problems doing so.

I wouldn't judge his fondness for BLM currently if he gave us 2.0 launch's WAR.

Is this a summoner complaining? Am I reading this right?

There is no way, with your gear and job, that there is any reason to feel handicapped and failing that check at this point has no reason but bad players.

Summoners aren't even hampered by movement as long as they can get out Bio 2 and Miasma.
Though they do have to stand still for dreadwyrm trance now, you should be able to tell when it's safe to use that.

Why do I have to stand still to use Dreadwyrm trance? It's an ability.
