I know I posted this in general discussion...I meant it to go here cause I wanted it to maybe get looked at by Yoshida and the devs.
There's a lot of open space in Eorzea...great for SE to designate plots of land to build dynamic player housing. So here's my idea for you Yoshida...I'm sure it got lost in space somewhere when I sent it to you in feedback many moons ago.
Here were some ideas I had:
*Player housing is to involve the monthly lease of a plot of land in Eorzea.
*Every player on the server may see this property!!!
*That lease costs is affected by the influence of the Grand Company in the region and which GC you belong too.
*It may be a home built for yourself or multiple people.
*You may allow or disallow visitors or others to deposit or take stuff from your home.
*You must pay your monthly lease or you'll lose your home. (Don't make the Moogle Evicter come and toss you out, because when he does, so will your goods you've stored in your home be tossed)
*Crafting parts for home and furniture by crafters etc.
*Every home has a market stall for one of your retainers to stand and sell your goods (I envision this as a booth with a window that opens to your retainer)
*You may build amazing workshops for your different crafts...you may rent out your craft workshops to other players passing by etc.
*There is a special room in your home where you may place trophies of war.
*A spot for the field craft of farming!!!
*Players may choose to partner up with neighboring plots to form more massive homes. Their influences upon the land and commerce affects the GC influences.
*The house can have pets. You will need to feed your pet to keep it alive and healthy etc. In return your pet may wander in with some amazing find for you from time to time.
*Once a home is created it joins the Moogle mail network...a network of Moogles that deliver mail to you from other players and NPCs. Befriend and help out an NPC along your journey in Eorzea they may send you an amazing leve to set you out on a fantastic adventure!!!

One thing I really can't see is uninstanced housing - it just wouldn't work in this type of MMO. The landscape is too specifically designed - and can you imagine the load on your PC entering an area full of houses? It'd be a slideshow.

I'd be more interested in seeing those player companies that we've heard about holding some form of hosing. I would assume that those would be instanced anyways, but I would like Square to have their own twist. Instead of instancing a room, they instance an entire airship/ship for the player's linkshell to use for everything. A linkshell bank, custom rooms for each member, a little minigame area, similar to besieged in FFXI. Stuff like that.
I'm sure player housing is going to be implemented at one point in time or another. -

I truly love this Idea. I would love to have something like this. But sadly..there are just way too many players for this too work. But you do have some great ideas.

I thought they would do this with Grand Companies where it's like a big guild house. With members of the GC having rooms within this large GC structure. They can be instanced rooms people can visit.

i could only agree if housing have events like barricading your home from preventing invaders to pillage your house or making cutscene's where invaders points a bronze dagger at your throat. it could add diveristy to gameplay/roleplay.without those housing becomes irrelevant in the game becuase its not needed

Whilst not needed adding instanced player housing (preferably with the ability to invite friends over for evening supper) could add a whole new level of depth and immersion into the game, for example:
Crafting
Realistic usages for Carpentry and weaving, making chairs, tables and rugs, etc.

Gameplay
new frontiers for immersion and role play. = Fun
Money sink (costly aesthetics tables,chests etc)

It will probably never be implemented, but from playing runescape (terrible game i know) the housing system within runescape however was a very entertaining time sink, sub worthy, and could definitely keep subs coming if this was implemented.
Considering making new thread on all the usages and viable implementation of a housing system. -

Maybe you should find a game that suits your non-relevant un-needs instead.
FFXIV should have housing, and garden like Yohis-P already mentioned.
This game is based upon FFXI more than anything, not WoW, Aion or any other new mmo.
I dont even think you ever played FFXI, so you dont even know whats useful or not.
Housing is and would be a Major addon for crafters, to craft furnitures etc
and therefore increase the economy and options in the game, dont you have any imagination at all?
And finally, this game can never be FFXI-2, it dosent even have the same Lore, storyline.
So..please dont even go there for a comparrison, this game would still be in shambles if all the FFXI-related suggestion didnt come from the majority of the playe-base that played FFXI. -

I definitely agree with the signed gear! I really loved having gear made from friends and popular crafters on the server!
I have been asking everyone if they've heard any news on housing. I love a lot of the ideas of the initial poster; however, I do feel that it would probably have to be instanced. As another reply stated, I think it would be too difficult to create uninstanced housing due to the maps being hard coded. Instanced housing would allow it to be expanded greatly. Perhaps there could be access to housing instances around the regional maps. Each instance would have a unique style to the streets, plant life, houses, etc...
Another suggestion that I'd like to throw in is based on the initial author. It would be great to see Linkshell housing/castle/etc... The size of it could be based on the number of linkshell members/monthly lease/ etc...
I whole heartedly agree with the statements made before about it increasing the depth of the economy and crafting. I used to play mainly as a woodcrafter with sub crafts in ffxi just to make furniture! -

As recently announced with Free Companies and housing I have to say something about it. I don't know how anyone else feels but I don't want being able to get a "house" being linked to Linkshell Housing or as they are calling it Free Company housing. I liked the way housing was in FFXI that no matter what was going on with any other players or your linkshell, your house was your house and it was only connected to you.
Players come and go, Linkshells also come and go and I would rather not have the basis of me having a place to call my own subject to whether people and/or linkshells stick around. We don't know how this is going to work in the FFXIV V2.0 but I hope we can get more information on the plans for this. -

Also another suggestion regarding craftable Furnitures...
If possible one day, when crafted chairs / tables / beds etc, we should be able to use them.
Sit down around table, maybe for ls / company to discuss things. :P
Beds... well, to sleep in. :D
Tables, well to put things on, maybe play simple game with friends.
Paintings, maybe from saved ingame "Screenshots" would be a cool idea?
Resized to smaller size ofcourse.
Statues, in stone / Wood / metal. (also craftable)
Company banner, with company's name on it. (In wood maybe. That can be put on wall in Housing)
Bar-table, have your retainer sell / trade / hold items from.
I guess it could be used for company housing aswell, company-retainer
for a linkshell's company to sell / share / hold stuff with for its members.
(or a company moogle if you like, maybe a moomba?)
Now im sure there's atleast some people that will diss these ideas,
but ....why not come up with your own ideas then?
