Like accessible PvP. I don't know if I am able to list off other games here or not (Different game forums have different policies), but fact is I have a huge breadth of mmo background and PvP has almost always been my thing. It's pretty staple and a lot of people LOVE it.
However in this game PvP seems incredibly downplayed if not outright inaccessible. With the numerous barriers around PvP (such as GC lock) it makes it impossible to be very active in PvP. It is so incredibly imbalanced that it is obvious upon trying to queue, let alone the fact you rarely see anyone waltzing around in PvP gear.
I really wish that with the expansion (HW) that the PvP was separated from GC and made more accessible. Like DF and premade parties can queue and participate.... and ISOLATED from GC decisions.
"But that would never work" Why wouldn't it? I won't list names but a particular insanely popular MOBA game doesn't restrict you to one particular team based upon choice. You go either side randomly. This style of team-formation hasn't proven to be a failure whatsoever.
"But it doesn't work with the story" is an argument I see.
Alright, I agree. But what would you rather... an inaccessible unusable mode that is utterly and bewilderingly pointless to have implemented cause no one can use it... OR a mode that is easily accessible and constantly used? I agree story driven nature of FF14 is awesome and I love it, but we need to realize that functionality for what a huge portion of players consider critical content is... critical.
At present PvP is beyond the majority of player's reach.

Team deathmatch (I think it's just called the wolves den) is 4v4 deathmatch with no restrictions. It was also the first PvP mode released.

It's my personal opinion that the people who LOVE PvP are the very vocal minority, getting more attention because they make the most noise despite their smaller numbers. I used to PvP, played on PvP servers, and I was good at it. But I would much rather have nothing to do with it now. The fact that there are mounts gated behind PvP content annoys the holy hell out of me, and I think the PvP armor looks stupid. Any time I see someone and think to myself, "What in the world is that horrible looking gear!?" I then examine the player and, oh look... It's the PvP set. Again, my opinion, but I think PvP has no place in FFXIV. They put it in, and I didn't say anything because there's certainly a market for it, but I think the fact that you have such low queue rates is pretty indicative of the fact that it's just not as popular as the hardcore PvPers like to make it out as. Not just the nation system holding people back (Which I'm sure also contributes, but I'm willing to bet it's not as much)

The problem is. With our clunky 2 hour long gcd its impossible for them to make pvp fun.
And weird "must face target" rule for caster. Run through or circle a blm or smn and they will have a hard time dealing damage. -

The only pvp I really enjoyed was 72 man secure. Fighting 8 vs 8 was pretty fun because as a caster you had a chance to actually get some spells off without surecast quickcast etc
although a lot of the games were rsthrr boring with 3 healers in both groups and you would fight forever before someone would get first blood. -

I'm not a fan of pvp at all but I really really like the pvp animal themed gear. But at the end of the day I just never run any because the queue times are horrendous. Not just for Frontlines; I've queued up in a full party with another full party to face off against and we all still sat in queue over 30 minutes. That was for Wolves Den. Why in the world did it take so long to let us go into the instance???????
I would do a lot more pvp if queue times were something approaching reasonable. -

Tbh PvP doesn't belong in this game, so I'm personally waiting for Blade & Soul to be released in the west which is coming this fall, I know it's been long in the waiting but its got a very competitive PvP background.

You can access PvP starting at level 30 simply by doing the MSQ, in fact you cannot continue the MSQ without first unlocking PvP. It is accessible to everyone, starting at level 30. Frontines is a different "mode" of PvP, and therefore, has the GC requirement. This is how that particular "mode" is designed, don't like the mode? Stick to the Wolves' Den. Otherwise, there ya go.
Second, I said "PvP-focused MMO. tis games focus is not PvP, nor has it ever been, or ever will be. It will simply never be up to standards that folks are demanding as long as PvE remains the games focuse, which is what I said.
You just don't like those facts. Too bad, the game you're playing is a PvE one with PvP tossed in for folks to kill time, not for anything serious. You want serious PvP, look elsewhere. -

PvP in a game with such a flawed and VERY finicky location polling system to track movement, skill casts, and placement of AoEs is just a horrible HORRIBLE idea to begin with.
Nevermind the fact that it's not a competitive style game in any other aspect, why they've chosen to continue doing anything for it is beyond me, there's no point to it and the awful way they've chosen to design it basically guarantees that it will be largely ignored. -

They ruined arenas by pushing people away from them with low rewards and massive grinding with also huge diferences on gear. Then they fixed the gear issues but added frontlines with better rewards leaving arenas almost obsolete but at the same time dooming frontlines with a horrible GC restriction that kills the queue.
It's sad because it felt like quite a lot of people like them but they refuse to fix the queue times so... -

What annoys me of the current PvP system is that on FL the constant gimping of jobs, only one medica regen, swiftcast nerfed, shorter duration on debuffs etc etc. I understand that jobs might need some balancing but it also removes all the fun. They make it so that everyone has the same chance to beat any other job and I don't find it fair. In the end why don't they just let us enter all as carpenters and saw the sh*it out of other carpenters? I mean, why would you fear a blm? Well cause now the most dangerous thing he would do is sleepga... On the other hand if he still had his full swift with a flare, oh boy yes I would fear him. Oh ya, the LB...

I agree though, I would love a fix because the current system is not working so great and they should see that by now. I love my variety so I'd like to mix my PvE time with PvP from time to time but I'm not going to wait in que for about an hour for one match if I'm lucky, its just a waste of time right now.
