There are threads popping up about crossover Final Fantasys and elements from them and then I remembered those train tracks...

The Phantom train was mentioned once in 2.0 as a Garlean Supply Train.

I wonder if the legend of the Phantom train may develop into a Primal since the Train Tracks are no used as much anymore by the Garleans stuck in Eorzea.

If 3.1 brings in Hildibrand Season 2 then we just may get the chance to see that.

(also a chance to finally get that /adjustglasses emote from hildy season 2 if they add it as a reward.)

it would also be a interesting case for Hildibrand to solve and can serve as the Horror Episode Special of Hildibrand Series.

I think it was mentioned as a nod to FF6, there's enough nods to FF6 in FFXIV to put it roughly in the same continuity without overlapping the storylines.

I mean come on, The Machinist was first introduced in FF6 with Edgar. If you want to stretch it a little, Machinist "Cid" was first introduced in FF4, but lacks the gadgets.

But I also think the train tracks are still used by the Garleans, just the game lacks no facility to use them. If you jump back to V1.0 the tracks didn't exist.

But yeah I think somehow "remaking" the Phantom Train storyline in some way would be fitting to FFXIV as a side story. The train needs another "side" to arrive at.

Anyways this exact theory I recall being posted either during beta or shortly after release of 2.0.

I hope they add Doom train in as a primal fight.

Oh I can imaging how the Doom Train/Phantom train would be like in a Hildibrand episode. It just needs to bring out the Haunted train theme for that episode properly for that Hildibrand flavor Horror Episode.

I remember when I first started playing seeing those tracks and standing at the edge of the tunnel, wondering if I should make a run for it. I didn't know at the time if there was a train that ran through.

Problem there is... Who worships trains...? It would work better as a Voidsent machine created by some tech saavy Voidsent. The entire fight would also have to be like Alexander and take place inside.

Considering how Typhoon and Atomos ended up being tied to Hildy quests i can very well see the Doom train being tied to them in the future.
Either that or a dungeon, but a full scale primal? Not a chance.

Well Ultros/Ultross and his buddy Typhoon/Chupon were entirely gag characters of the scale of Hildibrand in FF6 AND in the other cameos he's had (ret-conned into FFI, FF12, FF13-2 and at least 10 spinoffs)

Well I can think of one certain Dalamud worshipping cult, that we have not heard from in a while, that may worship a Demon Ghost Train.

Also, as it was revealed in 3.0 and Alexander Story

SPOILERS

Primals do not need worshipping but to give a Primal form they must have a strong enough Belief to give them form. Alexander is a example being that the Goblins do not worship Alexander as a God but through their strong belief for a Walking self sustaining Fortress colony they gave it form and see Alexander as a tool to farther their goals.

Worshipping is just a way to make beings provide strong belief for the Primal to give it form. A Ghost story about Doom/Phantom Train may spark a strong enough belief for it to take form assuming there is enough Aether crystals on or near that Train.

I'd love to see a ridable train for transport. One you can actually walk around on while it moves.

Well, since Edda is still floating around Eorzea... I'd love for her to somehow become involved with the Doom Train and have Hildebrand investigate.

There needs to be a couple of Garlean engineers that end up accidentally pulling a Gilgamesh with the Phantom Train.

I am 100% for this, and it would make my year.

Well of course like mentioned already they just need people to believe Doomtrain is real and with enough Crystals will can happen. And what a better place than the streets of Uldah? I mean I am sure the Syndicate has a stock pile of crystals hidden within the city in a warehouse or vault. The "big bad" of the Hildibrand quest could be spreading a "ghost story" to the children of Uldah, since children are highly susceptible to believing in ghost stories it seems all to plausible.

The fight could be really cool too and be a trial that seems like a dungeon in the sense that a team of 8 goes from train car to train car fighting some monsters to make it to the engine room of the train where you fight a boss to "disable" the train so it cannot move, after a little cut scene we are taken outside the train and fight the Doomtrain proper as a Primal.

Could be cool.

Yep if there is enough people who would believe in the Ghost story of the phantom/doom train then the Doom/Phantom Train should have enough belief to obtain a Form. It is only a matter of how the Doom/Phantom Train obtains the Aether crystals required to make the form manifest it self.

The best way to describe Primals now from the new info provided in 3.0 is that Primals are basically Imaginary Friends gone bad. :p

They're not real and are just manifestations of a person or people's subconscious given physical from with the Aether through strong beliefs over a Legend, Personal History, or made up story .
