I was curious if at one point we could get companions besides chocobos. I forget the name of the FFXI system, believe it was fellows, where you could make an npc character to fight with you.
You can chose their appearance, and armor by fighting certain monsters. I found this very enjoyable along with the quests you had in FFXI. I know there were in 1.0 but you couldn't decide what they look like and we're only in Main scenario quests.

They were thinking of adding such system for the duty finder so players can group with npc to do the dungeons were its hard to find other players for. But like the FC Primal feature, the developers have only said, they are thinking about it. I think aslong as they dont fixt the server memory issues, we wont see realy new things. Imagine this, they are having issues with adding more inventory space, what makes you think they able to add new companions with skills and weapon+ armour space.
I love the suggestion, but aslong as the server memory stuff is not fixed, dont expect it. -

They should let us take retainers as companions. They already have appearance data, gear, and an EXP curve, so it wouldn't require a bunch of new data to be stored anywhere. -

I created a smiliar thread, so of course I vouch for this to happen!
Hire NPC, giving them rewards in dungeons, some Gil, EXP so they lvl up and charge more for their services, it would be another gil sink for SE.
Not only for Dungeons, for crafting airships too!

That was one of my favorite things in ffxi and swtor, the companions just made solo questing in the world a lot more fun.

I think that they probably don't want us to solo queue?
I'd also heard (may be wrong) that they'd wanted to give us human companions but the AI was so wonky and simplistic that the companion didn't act human at all. So war bird it is! -

Yoshi meantioned that they were working on something for chocobos and magitek armor in LLXXIII. I'm hoping to bring my chocobo into a dungeon or PvP. They had talked about chocobos in PvP waaaay back at launch, but haven't said anything about it in quite awhile.

Retainer companion is my first thought, cap them at equal to the player's level and let us gear them up appropriately, if the gear is much higher than the level if you switch classes, just decrease the stats on the gear like the system that weakens gear when you queue for a lower level dungeon.

I do remember them saying something about letting us go into dungeons with Chocobos but I doubt thatll happen anytime soon. As for companions, sounds too much like SWTOR but without the good story-driven parts. Not that id mind either way, so long as the games solo content isnt balanced with companions in mind. I hated that about SWTOR... played the baddest Sith since Revan... could barely handle a handful of Republic troops without help. Dam that.
