is it gilgamesh and balmung fault again?
i bet it is..
I miss the days of FFXI... maintenance once a month and only 2 hours lol.
most mmo ive played only have it once a week and its not 4 hrs long..
2 at most
Last maintenance notes had lots of Alexander stuff in it.
A haiku:
The code was willing
It considered your request
But the chips were weak.
There is a weekly maintenance (happened yesterday). Today it's an emergency maintenance, it was not planned, something must have been terribly broken.
Not to try and put down the dev team, but having to constantly do maintenance on the game is a sign of poor skills on somebodys end. I love FFXIV and all, but I've never played a game (mmos included) with so many long maintenances. I pretty much expect at least 3-4 maintenances a week after HW launched.
something to do with the servers. I don't know why but it seems there have been a large amount of issues with the servers since 3.0 release.
Could just be the over load of new players and returning players being too much for the servers.
I'm still curious what this maintenance is for. I've accepted the time off but to know what it's for would be nice. : )
I remember FFXIV having maintenance every other day back then too XD
Yeah, it feels like we are paying for maintenance instead of paying to play the game. I understand that HW is still new but still.. 4 hours?? You would think with all the 4 hour maintenances that they would fix the problems lol. Owell, I have a few movies to watch anyways :P
Honestly it wouldn't shock me if this thread has something to do with it: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...al-node.-Money!
The problem lies with XIV not having PTR servers (Player Tested Realms) so they always release expansions/patches without any thorough testing... then we suffer in the end from 4-hour long maintenances 2 to 3 times a week :\ It's unacceptable. I have no problem with emergency maintenance like the one today, but having the servers go down 2-3 times a week is just poor service, especially for Oceanic players who get hit right through prime time every single time.
Hot Fixes shouldn't take 4 hours, at most a server restart is enough.. 15 minute downtime, even an hour... but 4? It's pretty bad when you see a major patch come out and you automatically say "welp, time for maintenance 3 times a week"
Emergency maintenance
.....Emergency
E-M-E-R-G-E-N-C-Y
As in.. something went wrong.
You must not know much about software development or what happens during maintenance. Most of the time they take care of backups and QA test patches that were just put in. So the next time your character data gets corrupted, which in my case has been never (sign of skilled employees), you can thank SE for having backups of your data.
And neither do you if you think it takes 4 hours to process all that data :P
Games like WoW apply hotfixes with a server restart, servers go down for literally 30 seconds and up and running again.
Not that I'm complaining... I'm not even that fussed to be honest.
I wonder if this generation of entitled gamers even know what the word hyperbole means?
Everyday = BS. There was weekly maintenance yesterday and emergency maintenance today.
Let me start it off with... back in my day... LOL!
j/k
Whenever there's a big patch (in this case, the expansion), there will be small maintenance sessions. They've already pointed this out before, and it happened back in 2.0; also, that 4 hour maintenance is just based on an estimate of how long it will take. If you didn't notice, servers are usually back up 30 minutes before the announced end of maintenance, sometimes a whole hour ahead too.
So guys. anyone wanna bet on making a specific set of gear dyeable?
all the new stuff being released means there's more problems to find, i guess.
i also haven't played an mmo that's had to do as much maintenance as ffxiv, but the other mmos i've played also didn't update as often with as much content as ffxiv.
I've played WoW and their maintenance is not 30 seconds. There are hotfixes that they can apply instantly and some they can't. It just depends on what the problem is. Also, some of FFXIV's most recent maintenance have been only 3 hours long with a patch, so yes, it does not take 4 hours to do a backup. I also included QA testing and applying patch to the server as being included in the maintenance because they do take time.
FYI, I work on a software company's installer and know my stuff.
AST tweaks! Because it's emergency material enough. :D
*Cough* It's been like this for a month now *Cough*
Don't get me wrong if something important needs fixing they should fix it, but don't act like this is once a blue moon thing.
Think we have had 9, 4-5 hour maintenance's in 4 weeks.
Most would agree it seems very excessive, especially some of them where hotfixes that could've been done on the standard weekly maintenance.
Yesterday DF was stuck and it never pop...(even if it indicated it was full on party members)
Perhaps that was the problem.
One of my fc members told me just before logging out it was for a npc selling items for 0 gil. guess thats the emergency dont want players to get free items. See one person saying dark knight wasn't generating threat must only be problem on there servers had 2 in my fate party was in and they didnt have any problems generating threat.
There is also the fact that this morning, DRK -completely stop generating Threat- if they use provoke at all, it might, you know..Be that.
I have been wanting this since the thing came out.
WHY SE WHY WONT YOU DO IT
That probably means the instance couldn't be reserved, meaning it was likely full at the time. For whatever reason.
Might not have been a problem at all other than too many people all running something for some reason.
Really put some thought into what you are complaining about here. First there was a maintenance for the expansion release (thats a given). Then one a couple days later for hotfixes (typical for when a big update comes out). Then the normal ones we have every week on Tuesday since then (which includes Alexander). Then Alexander's hotfixes last week, 1-2 days after Tuesday. That's about 4-5 maintenance, which is extremely generous and expected.
I have to agree with the general sentiment. It's hard to take the term "emergency maintenance" seriously when they seem to happen nearly every second day lately.
There is a reason why most MMO developers use public beta tests before content is released rather than this "dump it on live and hope for the best" approach. Hopefully, SE will get the message one day.
