Predict the patch that focuses on content!

The current patches have been much needed and there are still a lot on the dev teams plate until the fundamental basic MMO-features are in the game.

What patch do you think will start the trend of more content related additions with the tweaks being just usual MMO-fixes and edits on top of the content additions?

Since content seems to be very subjective let's narrow it down a bit.

Content that is equal or bigger than addition of new quests or new goals to achieve.
Examples: Gardening system, storyline missions, quests, new areas spell quests and so on.

My guess (hope) is that they're playing time by dropping easy to develop goals like NM's and re-painted gear mostly to focus fully on the reforms.
They said themselves that it was a risk to release the raids so early.

What I think is that they're holding off even working on story and npc-quest type content because the world re-design will have a big impact on how the world is defined. And the gameplay tweaks will change the way they design content to begin with.


My cautious guess is patch 1.23 because it seems like their major battle overhauls should be done by then and the world edits have begun. Also it's probably the time when the story needs to be expanded to get marketing material ready for the ps3 release.

Please remind me,what is other battle overhaul that they are gonna do? Are they going to add some system on top of the AA?

Jobs? Balancing?

When the dev team isn't focused on fundamental gameplay revisions, they can focus on the content.

Do you think it's overly optimistic to think that would be the time when the landscape re-modeling has been done?

Sure, if their pre-development phase is already over it's probably not a huge stretch to assume the world redesign would come around Spring 2012?

I think Summer will be quite a critical phase for them. There can't be too much they need to do anymore at that point, assuming server, engine, area, UI and combat overhauls are finished. We'll probably have, say, 6 or 8 raids at that point as well which should be plenty for the PS3 users.

Summer 2012 this game should be running smoothly, and definitely by 2yr anniversary we'll be paying to play the game (unless the ultimately adopt a F2P system)

Maybe I'm old-fashioned but I hope this game doesn't go F2P. It would just look bad for the FF brand and would cause another avalanche of gameplay reforms and adjustments to make us want to consume money on things.

f2p would suck ...though they should take abysea out or make 2 diff ffxi games one with and one without abysea and make them f2p. i would play that once in while free.

lol infact why didn't they give the ffxi base a choice of a server without abysea too. completly changing the game on them like that. if i didn't quit like a year prior i would of been pissed. i would of kept a non abysea server, but maybe pay a buck and do abysea on another account.

I think the map remake would be release on the ps3 update that what i think anyways.

Patch 4.0.

According to one of the Letters From The Producer, 1.21 is going to be a finalising to the major battle overhauls. It's also when the long list also featured in that letter will be completed, and the release of jobs are supposed to come in that patch too, so I'm gonna say patch 1.22+ is gonna be when the major content starts flowing.

all the patchs now are fixing everything in parts so it takes longer for them to finsh one thing.

Getting content every patch, and from a recent post they're about halfway through the game fixes with 1.19... starting with this patch and going forward though we'll see ALOT more content added and faster paced since they are done with alot of measly issues! 1.21 imo will be huge for content! Especially if it includes the map redesigns in addition to the confirmed jobs and quests that accompany them. But does it matter that much? Lots to do for a new player and the focus isn't really about the hardcore people playing atm, its about the future and re-release! Best part is, FF 14 will FINALLY start to feel like a actual FF flavored game this upcoming patch :D

Summer 2012 sounds about right for emphasis on content.

Fall 2012 for PS3 release?

I see a December - April release on PS3, at the rate they are going. With 1.20 droping in late novmeber early decmeber.
