I want that as a title, seriously the best thing.
yes because we are too good to help our friends.
why be nice? unless it's to kill a god don't call me kthxbye.
Because maybe that fricking Tataru ( and not only Tataru) should have some respect for the one that vanquishes mighty foes and primals for the good of that damn Eorzea and go and fetch her stuff herself, not take advantage of him.
Yeah, you're right. Let's make it so you can just kill everyone instead, and just give someone a middle finger if they expect you to help them for exp or rewards. Then you can get a "Grimderp Toolbag" title.
Should be an option/
I imagine that I'm delivering all of my responses sarcastically (we aren't voiced after all) and rolling my eyes at NPCs when they can't see. I'm pretty sure I spit on the stuff that Tataru asked me to bring back.
Defeat primals and she can't be arsed to make me anything? Not even a scarf or gloves. Yeesh. A person (left unnamed because...spoilers) shows up and "Oooh! Have a fancy dress!. Hey warrior of light, get me stuff for that person's dress"
You call it bootlicking.
But it actually our character's biggest strength apart from the echo and blessing.
The process is simplified for the sake of the game. And i can't say every quest was met by Kall with enthusiasm; But our characters are the hand that picks up people from their problems. Throughout the thousand of little tasks we have done we have become almost legendary, known by demigods and paupers alike.
It's won us allies, fame, money, experiences that never go away.
But apart from benefitting us, it's something that's hopefully catching on from our example. We may never be good politicians, but what we are doing, is making Eorzea stronger one person at a time.
It's not bootlicking, it's being a doormat. You're right that kindness acts as an example for others, but SE took it way over the top with some of the fetch quests in ARR and HW. They even used Rowena to poke at that fact with some of her quest dialogue. I agree with acts of kindness, but they go a bit beyond that in some of their quests.
No, no and no.
Oh I'm not arguing that, in fact I also think it might be a underlying personal problem, it's clear we drown ourselves in work. I'm saying it's effects are also far reaching and beneficial. It's got us to where we are as heroes of the people, whether that comes with a price is up to the plot.
Its not like the story isn't aware of this. The story does have characters that point out the OPs view.Illberd and Rowena being a recent example.
Let's face it you have nothing better to do anyways so why not do it, if you did have something better to do then you would not have even picked up the quest and would of been off doing that instead.
You also have control over the fact if you don't want to do it then the game gives you an accept or decline option and even if 'you choose' to do it by accepting it then you still have the option of not completing it and just doing things want to do instead. The fact is your only a doormat because you the player chose to be one, SE gave you the freedom to not pick up the quest, not accept the quest and not do the quest even if did accept it and despite this you chose to do it and whine about your choice.
So if you feel like a doormat, it is because you chose to be one and sure there may have been a carrot on the end of the stick where you wanted something out of doing it which would get if did so but nothing changes the fact SE did not force you to do it; you chose to do it whether out of the kindness of your characters heart or simply greed in wanting something from it which could be progression in that quest line or the quests reward/payment for your help. SE did not make you a bootlicker or a doormat, you chose to be one.
The non-playable characters who want help from you (which you may not like yet still decided to do for whatever reason whether boredom, progression, experience or greed) had their own reasons for wanting your help regardless of whether was something you considered lame or not...it was important to that character you picked up quest from even if not important to you. Maybe you do think you should be treated more importantly as a character but why then did you decide to do these quests when you could of refused because they were not showing you the respect you thought you deserved?
Maybe the non-playable character thinks your ego is getting to big and wants to keep you grounded. Remember no matter how important you are in this world you still have to do tedious things or things don't like sometimes in order to gain something want in return, this game seems to fit within that principle just fine in that you wanted the reward or experience, progression or to help your characters friend in game so did what she/he considered important even if you did not value what she/he wanted help with in the same way but most importantly you chose to help them...no-one forced you. :p
Oh but i couldn't have progressed further into the story where I am needed to slay mighty primals if i wouldn't have fetched simple stuff for Tataru while she did nothing else. SO uhm, i was kinda forced to do it because apparently i cannot choose to say no and proceed doing the more important work.
Allein's thought process:
"is x person making me do something petty? probably."
"am i being payed gil for it? yes. are they giving me things other than gil? maybe."
"will i murder something along the way? most likely."
sign me up random person number forty-three!
lets face it. for most of these quests, bar a few, we get rewarded for it. sure in game you might have millions of gil, but in their reality this is how your character survives outside of fighting on a day to day basis. (food, repairs, you get the idea.)

"Please look forward to it"
Shows what you know. Look closely, Tataru is hiding behind things aiming a gun at you. Did you see her grin at the end of 2.55? EEEEVIL
Yeah, that's what inspired my comment. I think it's more that she has a low opinion of us. and she's evil. I'm sure of it.
If you hadn't done it you would not need to slay the nasty primal because the nasty primal does not do anything until you have done the pre-requisite quests. It is a threat that exists but one that does not do anything unless you progress that storyline.
Again though you were not forced to do anything, you chose to do it because you personally wanted to deal with a threat that lingers in the future provided you do that quest. A threat that remained nothing more than a threat and causes no harm to anyone else unless you progress the quest line so in a way I guess you could say your the villain of the game because you wanted to fight it that is why so many people might have died. Had your ego not got in the way and you did not go off to confront it/progress that plot line then the primal would do no harm and would remain a stagnant, static plot line that would not have progressed and not caused mayhem or possibly death to others. :)
Tataru was the hero in trying to put you off starting a fight with it giving you tasks you do not want to do and hoping you would not do them, trying to let it remain just a lingering threat but not one that becomes a reality while you forced it to become a reality and risk everyone's lives. Tataru failed to save people with her ploy of convincing you to not progress the story. Had you chosen to spend your time doing something else then people might not have been killed by that primal so your ego turned that mere threat into a reality. Your actions cost everyone's lives because you wanted to selfishly progress...you evil bastard!
~By the way I am just messing with you and others, despite some elements of truth in some of the things I have said for the most part I'm just poking fun at some of the arguments. :p
Also the amount of nodding in the game is completely overwhelming.
Lets face it, if we didn't go fetch things for Tataru, she'd have to go get the stuff herself, and then we'd need to rescue her from whatever misadventures she's gotten herself up to in the mean time.
I actually like Tataru, she can be a little annoying from time to time but she offers in return a worthwhile benefit and that is keeping your ego in check...spending some time helping the little people with what they feel is important is really such a hardship? Moogle's on the other hand in churning mists are a lot more annoying than Tataru ever was yet so much hate is directed at poor Tataru. She always tries her best and to be honest so do the moogles.
You are the same at stages of the game being saved by others too don't forget in fact your saved more often than she is by others whether saved by hydaelyn, cid, the scions and Rhauban plus many others so maybe you need your ego kept in check by her little minor tasks because your not as good as you think you are yet just like her you keep trying to do your best and so does she...only she can't fight primals and does need help with other more minor things just like you need the help being saved so often in the story on the bigger things.
Your all so mean...you make Tataru cry when all she is doing is trying her best in her own little way.

Moogles are fucking amazing.
Honestly I'm that bad voluntarily.
NPC: THE WORLD IS ENDING COME AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN
Me: Yeah sure, but let me finish this card game first.
NPC: TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE WE ARE COUNTING ON YOU
Me: Sorry, my retainers just finished their personalized fetch quests, time to collect the loot!
NPC: SO MANY LIVES WILL BE LOST
Me: This mythrite ore ain't gonna mine itself, buddy
When the characters themselves flat-out mention that you SHOULD NOT be doing such tasks taking into account who you are, you know something's wrong.
Good lord, i fought Primals that killed countless people, i fought almighty dragons, i fought the freaking Empire!!! Why am i ordered to do dumb stuff like "go here and tell this guy to tell that guy to do something"? Especially when that 2nd guy then tells me "hmm, idk where the 3rd guy is. YOU go find him, i'll stay here."
Well, most people pay you...maybe the NPCs just assume you are poor, and the WoL is too polite to say "Nah, I have millions of gil".
I kind of see it like this: The WoL is a soldier. We are clearly treated as such, and in fact only hold menial officer rank in our military organization of choice (the Grand Company). We are a strong, brave, and resourceful soldier, and because of Echo, a military asset Eorzea would miss if taken. That said, we are still soliders, and a lot of soldiering is menial crap, bringing messages, items, and paperwork from A to B, and standing around till you're needed.
So, it makes sense in my mind.
If you haven't played through the 30-50 DRK Job questline, you may want to. I think you'll get a kick out of it.
