Come on SE, you're better than this. Weapons shouldn't be floating 6-inches or more away from the player models. You did it right in most cases, but this is just embarrassing, and ruins the immersion.

Well now that you pointed it out...
Cannot unsee ._.
magic ruins my immersion, so unrealistic.
It's the reason why I don't have the weapon option clicked on the paperdoll when I play MCH
I think the weapons magically sticking to your back is already pretty unrealistic if you are gonna complain about it... and not to mention all the clippings - which I can care less really.
Making a holster/sheath of some kind for the weapon wouldn't be bad.
But it would ruin the kawaii desu-ne aesthetic~!
I just took off five years from my lifespan just for typing that.
edit: Wasn't there a vibrating glitch with the Au Ra staffs too while they ran?
I've noticed that shields are sheathed unusually far off the back of female Au Ras.
Everyone has a basic grasp on Telekinesis (^_^)
(*_*) That's my headcanon anyway
Those ALC's flying alembic is really disturb me >_>
This happens with every single shield I have ever used.
It's probably magnets.
I'm sure it's to prevent clipping, but that does look pretty far. o.O Yeesh.
I saw this Day Zero. Looks horrible on Au Ra...
This is to minimise clipping. All sheathed weapons are placed at a static point on the character's back or waist, meanwhile different weapons and different body equipment can vary in bulkiness. As a result the static position that weapons are sheathed at has to be far enough away from the body to ensure it doesn't clip with bulkier pieces of equipment.
It's nicer to see weapons floating a little off the body than to see them impaled through the back.
Pretty stupid thing to complain about considering the reason is to prevent clipping into your character. Not all weapons are same size and they magically hang on your back...get over it. There's more prevalent things to fix than this obvious design choice for a valid reason.
I am seeing this EVERYWHERE now. GG for ruining my immersions, OP
Make your weapon invisible then. It's impossible to fix, just deal with it. The worst is when you have a robe with a fat hood and your staff clips right through the bottom of the hood and comes out of the top. It looks really silly.
In FFXI, PLD's shields floated 6 inches away from their left arm at all times and it looked kinda silly.

Limitations!
The problem is in order to fix this they would need to code specifics (with regards to the weapon). For every single piece of armour for every single race, or you would see massive clipping when wearing some armours.
It's magick!
Problem solved.
Agree OP, its bad character modelling. Id rather have a bit of clipping than floating weapons.
*Sees people say weapons float to minimize clipping*
*Looks at his WHM staff clipping into his robes*
....Um, yeah, what?
The extreme floatiness of the guns really is awkward though, it shouldn't be noticeable unless Im looking for it but I have to completely avoid certain poses because the levitation is so great.
ERMAGHAWD!
Fix the GRASS too! It ruins the whole game!!!!
This is pretty much what I thought the first time I saw a machinist with their weapon seathed:

Seriusly... why can't it be on the waist? Because Lalas would drag the muzzle on the ground?
My immersionnnnnn ha. Rpers so petty
Thanks OP, now I can't unsee this. But yeah, it's pretty bad, lol. I'm sure they did it because of clipping issues, but....since when they did care about that? My robe cuts right through my chocobo's neck.
They really need to fix the hair clipping issue as well. I know they said they won't fix it but why should we accept it? Lots of post 2013 games don't have this issue anymore.

75% of the Robe for both Male and Females cause clipping, when I walk / run / sit on Chocobo or do some Emotes...
This could've been solved easily with Physics, but it's time consuming.
tressfx is a Solution, fact is ... FFXIV ARR uses a outdated modified Luminous Engine and I highly doubt it gets Updated to Luminous Engine 2.0.
(The first Version of tressfx is so Perfomance Heavy, I could barely run Tomb Raider with tressfx turned on)
Ancient Allagan back mounting equipment is sewn into each and every piece of your armor as an adventurer. Using the concept of aetheric polarity, these objects operate much like the discs in maglev tech.
Sooooo....Yeah. That's canon now. I deem it as such.
The reason to that (I think) is to prevent clipping with some hairstyles, specially the ponytail one.
What people are asking for is less gear. At least the vocal minority is saying they would much prefer 25% of the gear we currently have an no clipping. Because that's what you get when you ask to remove clipping, with no clipping they have to take that extra time to fine tune each and every piece of weapon/gear/hair etc etc to fit the design of the character.
Rather than just say weapon goes to back, they have to go weapon goes to back in position x if:
wearing robe
wearing baggy body armor
wearing leather armor
etc
etc
So instead of say weather staff fits on back, they have to do:
align
x to a
x to b
x to c
x to d.
But keep in mind it's not as simple as x to a-d they have to take this into account. hyuran, rogy's elezen, lalafell, miquote and now AU ra.
So now look at the above 5 things to keep in mind, 6 races, 2 sexes, in case of hyuran it's double cause midlander/highlanders are differnet in body type compared to other races so now you have 5 x 14=70 variables to keep in mind.
With the current system it's just weapon to back and done, 1 variables among the 14 options and it's 14, so what you are asking for is for them to nearly sixfold their efforts just to remove clipping, so now they can only work at 1/6 the speed per item, release 1/6 the gear etc etc. It's a snowball effect.
If they're not gonna fix the clipping issue then at least they should stop making shirts with big hood on the back. make more shirts with scarf. they look better than hoods anyway.

All I can say..is companies that worry about clipping if they put sheaths in their game...Legend of Zelda has done sheaths since Ocarina of time.
This was very noticeable during a certain MSQ cutscene.
With Hilda in the Forgotten Knight. Her gun just FLOATS THERE in space as she moves around.
