Lemme get this straight on Alexander loot system

Note: I am not at home but I just read that whole gear pieces drop and tokens drop.


... That being said.... The goal is 100% to just spam the entire raid nonstop until you puke with one goal in mind:

NEVER get a token, EVER. (Because apparently either a token drops or a piece of gear worth many tokens???????????)

ALWAYS wait until a piece of relevant gear drops and then grab it and horde it and run away screaming with glee.

And spam the dungeon more and more and more and more and more (and more and more and more) until you hit your weekly limit.

Am I doing this right?

2 tokens drop from each turn. You can get 1 token per turn per week (loot lockout similar to towers, you can keep doing the turns to help your buddies). You can trade in tokens for gear. You only need to spam it if you're trying to get everyone in the group a token, and then you're probably going to only need to spam it around 8 times; could be more times since some drop different types of tokens and you might not get the one you want first try (at least that's how it looks atm, could sue more testing), but since it drops 2 tokens each times it'd take a real bad string of luck to actually matter.

Gear never drops. Only tokens.

So no offense, but practically everything you said is wrong. It's actually a pretty good example of why people should actually experience the system before commenting about how broken it is, though.

Edit: Also, clearing Alexander the first time awards you one of the accessory tokens (which only require 1 token), so everyone is guaranteed at least 1 accessory from their first full clear.

the chest token only drops from the 4th boss. Also there are only 4, not 5.

I am looking at that loot table and how long it will take me to get a single piece of good gear and I am disheartened. Like is this for real? A month for a single chest piece?

Holy shit. Not worth. I am sticking to my upgraded law gear, I can't wait a month for a single bloody chest piece >.>

Why a month for a single chest piece? There are 5 levels of Alexander. You can get 1 token from each level per week. Meaning if you run it with a static or just spam it enough in the week, you can get a Chest piece or Leg piece in a week... Plus an accessory if you want.

A month for the highest weighted item currently available in the game, yes. Can get 3 accessories by the end of the day, though - or 2 and a belt. Some people actually already broke down the value per token though, and it looks like hands/feet are slightly better than the chest, and those take 2 weeks.

Even still guaranteed loot after 4 weeks instead of full RNG is pretty much exactly what everyone asked for.

The loot system is pretty ridiculous. It's not so bad when floors 1 and 2 are in play, seeing as those are easily DF'able, but turns 3 and especially floor 4 AKA the "tank killer 5000" just make the thought of doing it over and over again aggravating.

If you don't have a static raid group who's fine with spamming each floor 4+ times to get everyone their item, getting your item from floor 3 and 4 every week is just going to be a bitch, especially with the way this token system works. No class restriction on anything, so you're constantly fighting against a bunch of other people for your drop, no matter their role or whether or not they actually need what they're rolling on. Not to mention, you could gear a class that you aren't even queuing as.

And as far as what drops where, it's like this:

Floor

1) Chain, Pedal, Bolt
2) Lens, Pedal, Bolt
3) Lens, Crank, Spring
4) Shaft, Crank, Spring, Gobwalker Shielding, Gordian Gear(<-Material, not armor).

Costs

Head: Lens (x2)
Body: Shaft (x4)
Hands: Crank (x2)
Waist: Chain (x1)
Legs: Spring (x4)
Feet: Pedal (x2)
Accessories: Bolt (x1)

I personally would have preferred full on RNG with loot lockout only when you obtain an item. This current system feels like balancing spinning plates.

Which means you can get one token per floor. This is four tokens in total.

F1 - Waist/Accessory/Feet Token
F2 - Head/Feet Token
F3 - Head/Hands/Leg Tokens
F4 - Chest/Hands/Leg Token

In the first week you can get an i190 feet and i190 hand pieces because you get two feet tokens @ F1 and F2 and two hand tokens @ F3 and F4. Or start saving up for chest and leg tokens on F4 and F3 respectively while getting a feet piece from F1 and F2.

Etc etc.

This is still better than say, waiting for 10-12 weeks for the one piece of BiS gear you need to drop from Coil/CT/Alex - though I will admit I was hoping for both a loot system AND a token system at the same time (with both on the same timer). Maybe that'll happen for Savage.

sounds too easy if you ask me. I do like guaranteed loot assuming you succeed at completing the content after a certain amount of time.

I never did ARR endgame, but if it was any easier than what I am understanding here then I'm glad I didn't bother.

I've been reading the posts on here all morning, and even the patch notes, and the system still seems a tad confusing to me; but that may be because it's still new and there's a lot of conflicting information out there. Seems to be one of those things where you have to run it before it's easy to understand really. Looking forward to giving it a try eventually though!

Really? From what I gather it is overly simple. You run a dungeon and get tokens. You exchange tokens for a piece of gear.

I guess people are complaining because you are limited to like 4 tokens a week. As in 1 token per boss.

If that's the case, that does seems insanely simple. I wonder why everyone is freaking out? If it's the best gear in the game (currently), shouldn't it make sense that it's a challenge to obtain, whether it's from RNG or difficult fights?

You're welcome. But you still don't have much of a basis to make any kind of judgement, except that it sounds like something you might not like. No offense, but why should anyone care that you might not like a system that you've never tried? If you come back with an analytical argument with some pros/cons I might listen, but right now it's like a blind man arguing that his favorite color is the best color.

The first time, yeah. Then you clear it again and roll against 6 people, etc. The fights are like 10-15 minutes each and pretty easy. If you're doing a pf group then it's probably a farm. If you're group hopping for each kill, then that's kinda your own fault. You don't need a static. There's a huge middle ground that you're intentionally ignoring in order to turn this into something it's not.

The only difficult fight is the last one, and that is only due to the sheer amount of constant damage that goes out everywhere, ontop of a tank buster in the final phase that hits you like a nuke 3 or 4 times. (I didn't count, all I know was I've died a few times just instantly)

The aggravation with obtaining the gear comes in when you have to roll against 7 other people.

It's been convoluted all morning because a lot of people read the patch notes and decided it was time to throw a fit so they raced to the forums to complain about a loot system they don't understand without thinking of any merits that this system has.

Very good points. I've already learned more in the last 10 minutes than I have all morning thanks to folks calmly explaining it who have given it a try!

Little bummed with this system. You are still rolling against 7 other people. Was expecting to just get my token completing the duty. What I was thinking going in is you have a chance to roll on gear and if you don't get it you get a token instead. Then once you get a ton of tokens you can get that gear you wanted if you were unlucky so many times because you roll 13 every single time... *sigh* So now I am just rolling 13 on tokens now. :(

You could always farm it (doesn't require a static), and then you're always rolling against less and less people.

So bad groups. Bad groups are gonna cause problems no matter how loot is designed.

First try the Loot System, then complain...

In 5 weeks you can have a class with a full seat with all accesories, you only need 13 tokens and each floor drop 2 tokens (you can only get one). They even add what kind of token you need in order to get an item so you can plan ahead what you are going to need.

Its far better than..."Oh crap another healing ring, I want my tank chest".

Also remember we now have Lootmaster rule, so if you have an statics just plan what to get and use /roll.

If you use duty finder, just get along and find new people... maybe you will form a linkshell with those guys and help each other.

Actually scratch that part, I don't think any of the floors can actually drop a piece of gear.

The 4th floor can however drop a material called Gordian Gear.

Thanks for all of the information! Definitely clearing things up a bit.

However:
1) Why does everyone keep saying you have to run 8 times for each person to get a token? If each run drops 2 tokens, shouldn't everyone receive at least 1 token after 4 runs? (assuming each person was ok with whatever token drops).

2) Isn't the possibility of really bad luck still out there? If 2 types of tokens drop per run out of a possible 3 tokens... isn't there still a small chance that someone could theoretically run x amount of times without a specific type of token dropping (i.e. hands)... right?

I think it's a vast improvement from 2.x days, but I guess I will have to try it out... still have nightmares going 4 months with 3 total drops across my three primary jobs (WAR/BLM/WHM) in BCOB back in the day...

I believe the goal is for everybody to get 4 tokens each week.

Can we call them Floors and not turns?

The naming of the alexander gear suggest that savage will give you upgrade items for the normal alexander gear...
Meaning you will have to farm normal for savage to make sense at all.

Even if Alex normal is pretty faceroll it still promotes statics if you dont want to suffer this problem, also whats the point in raiding if you do it with randoms.. that is just so unfun.

If I'm reading it right would the ideal loot order be.

F1= Feet > other
F2= Head > Feet
F3= Legs > Head> Hands (booby prize)
F4= Body > Legs (Last chance) > Hands (booby prize)

Seems like Accessories, Belts and Hands might be the most common thing to get out of the raid in the next 4 weeks or until hard mode is released in a couple weeks.

Yea really. The loot system should lock you out after getting loot from the same floor twice instead of just once.
