There's a lot of open space in Eorzea...great for SE to designate plots of land to build dynamic player housing. So here's my idea for you Yoshida...I'm sure it got lost in space somewhere when I sent it to you in feedback many moons ago.
Here were some ideas I had:
*Player housing is to involve the monthly lease of a plot of land in Eorzea.
*Every player on the server may see this property!!!
*That lease costs is affected by the influence of the Grand Company in the region and which GC you belong too.
*It may be a home built for yourself or multiple people.
*You may allow or disallow visitors or others to deposit or take stuff from your home.
*You must pay your monthly lease or you'll lose your home. (Don't make the Moogle Evicter come and toss you out, because when he does, so will your goods you've stored in your home be tossed)
*Crafting parts for home and furniture by crafters etc.
*Every home has a market stall for one of your retainers to stand and sell your goods (I envision this as a booth with a window that opens to your retainer)
*You may build amazing workshops for your different crafts...you may rent out your craft workshops to other players passing by etc.
*There is a special room in your home where you may place trophies of war.
*A spot for the field craft of farming!!!
*Players may choose to partner up with neighboring plots to form more massive homes. Their influences upon the land and commerce affects the GC influences.
*The house can have pets. You will need to feed your pet to keep it alive and healthy etc. In return your pet may wander in with some amazing find for you from time to time.
*Once a home is created it joins the Moogle mail network...a network of Moogles that deliver mail to you from other players and NPCs. Befriend and help out an NPC along your journey in Eorzea they may send you an amazing leve to set you out on a fantastic adventure!!!
So you want player housing?....

I like this it's good idea to ask SE for SPECIFIC THINGS when it comes to player housing.
When the players wanted an airship or NPC-quests I think what SE heard was "They want AN airship 3d model and leves given by NPCs"
So when player housing arrives let's not facepalm for getting just a house with no gameplay additions.
I want player housing with:
A MOG <---A MOG not another zombie slave please
A Moogle storyline that improves the house
Feng Shui system that affects the stats (please for the love of god let the community figure these aspects out themselves!)
Gardening System
Mulitple Mog house entrances and a quest to "learn the back alleys" to warp around the cities.
Bigger rooms for linksell owned houses!
Visible house on the field there's 8000000 acres of nothingness out there I'm sure you can figure out a way to display all of the houses.
A wall that displays the slots of XIV achievements empty slots for the non-completed tasks so that player can check what to work towards. Maybe furniture as a reward for completing a set of achievements?
Also carpentry needed to build the thing would be nice. -

I agree 95%! The part I don't agree with being everybody getting their own space. Make it an instanced building, similar to Mog Houses in Final Fantasy XI, only make it visible from the outside. Giving every player a personal location inside the game world would cause too much stress for the server, as it already has a hard time loading materials (see cities when populated).
Give us a nice huge building that you can instance our stuff in, giving other people the option to go inside much like Market Wards. -

lol it would have to be instanced. Even with the wide open spaces and the fairly low population, eventually there wouldn't be any wilderness left and we wouldn't have any mobs to grind on. It would just be houses. Houses everywhere.

it would need to be in a instanced zone, or special housing area no in random places in Thanlan or Limsa and Gridania areas otherwise it can create a lot of placement issues however in a new zone all together might work, really the mog house method in XI worked great your talking more of the Star Wars Galaxy style where you could place your house randomly anywhere on a planet HOWEVER, that game had 6-7 FULL planets that were about the actually size of 200-330 square miles each which is why they had mounts that traveled at like 50mph :p haha -

I did say specific plots of land to be zoned for player housing. Not every spot could have houses. That way they control placement. And the costs should be high so either you are a dedicated time sinker into your home or you'll need multiple peoples to afford 1 house.

Market Wards could just turn into housing districts. Lord of the Rings Online did a nice job with housing districts...but I don't like the idea of instanced areas for homes. FFXIV lacks organic feel as it is...we have 3 city states with no NPCs that really move or houses associated to them...I guess everyone in Eorzea is a bum! A special house on a bluff somewhere with an NPC like hmm...Matoya's cave. Those lil touches add so much to game immersion. I know I know it's still an MMO in its' early years and the content is coming I just need to be patient. I played FF11 I know the growing pains that went to become great.

The only problem is...
ArcheAge and Darkfall created their games and server infrastructure around non-instanced housing... and FFXIV barely created any server infrastructure at all, so I only wonder how feasible it is for SE to add something so momentuous as non-instanced housing when the servers may not have been made for it.
Sure Ultima Online had it back in the 1990s, so how hard can it be? But considering that SE acts like they have to do a fiscal analysis over the implementation of basic things like "player jump", you have to wonder how they would react to such a huge feature like non-instanced housing.
I just don't think it's within the realm of possibility, considering expertise is not exactly SE's expertise. -

Yeah...the back end database since this games release I have always been concerned with. You don't need to see the code to understand the limitations of how a database was designed. Any good developer knows that a bad database spoils the rest of the content...since the infrastructure is extremely hard to fix once it's established and running. But they chugging away at fixing things. It'll just take time and our patience.

I'd Prefer them inside the city's making new instanced areas that everyone can access..
I'd want them to look huge, but the actual inside the buildings to be instanced with fake extra housing in the distance.
(for the obvious time/resource usage).
You could easily have the Company buildings visible or actually in these new areas.
It would be easy to add new areas in Gridania, some houses built on the ground, some up in the air (thing fancy Ewok village lol) north of the city.
Under the ground in Ul'dah (think Ironforge but better looking).
Limsa .. Inside the mountains facing out to see (where we cant see them atm), large caves, and small docks along the base of the cliffs.
- Mogs: I'd have loved it to be a Mog but I actually don't think it works within FFXIV lore from what we have seen of them. Especially outside Gridania..
I think using a Much improved character designer and have 1 of my retainers as my house keeper.
- The Op's Pet idea is nice,
- Growing things,
- Several Sizes of houses, smallest having 1 main and 1 sub room, Largest 1 main room 5 sub rooms over 2 floors
(Size 1 free. 2/3 about 3 leves worth a week. 4,5&6 between 6 and 12 leves worth a week)
- Furniture (more SWG then FFXI with that).
- Story content around your retaiers and your Path companion
- Oww... Maybe having your path comparison have a room in your house if you want, and a whole story thing, around that (including content based off them having a house too)
Company housing
- Ponybird stables
- LS/Company Group project crafting areas.
- Small signal room areas for all members (down instanced corridors) -

My other idea revolved around GCs. That there be a set number of GCs that one could join like a guild. Think Fairy Tail anime if you've seen that. Members build a society and shops and livelihoods around those with quest issuance distributed based on guild status. The GCs compete in size, prowess, sales, gil, etc etc.
