Astrologian Weak? hmm...

So after reading through quite a few posts about Astrologian being weak i started to wonder to myself, Why do people think this class is weak.

To be Completely Honest, I Love having Astrologian in the group in End-game.

Astrologian is underrated at the moment, I strongly feel that whenever I am duo healing with them in any content that they are holding their end just as strongly as a WHM would be.

Arguably how much work does it take to get there? I don't know. But it feels the same when I heal with an AST.

Ravana EX is a joke from a HPS perspective. The damage only ever gets high if people mess up, in which case it does get high. Sure you have some Atma Linga spam going on after the Final Liberation (if you even get to see all of it), but nothing too bad. Good job overall, though.

Also, just to point it out - not hating and I also don't think AST is overly underpowered. It could use some tweaks and fixes, but it's not in a terrible shape like MCH.

No offense but pretty much much what Tranquil said , ravana is a joke to heal.
If you really want to see how "viable" ast is go into t13 ilvlsync disable echo and solo heal it, nice job nevertheless.

It's not weak - MCH is weak.
It's just... not as good. There's not really any reason to take something other than WHM+SCH into a serious raid environment.

I don't think Ast is weak, maybe not as good as other classes for now but definitely not world apart or horribly broken like some people here exaggerated. Moreover, with all those new systems, i believe it can be VASTLY improved with some tweaks here and there. Now I just hope SE won't overbuff it too much though, or people will whine again.

This player had a competent team that understood the fight and as many have said this fight doesn't require any of the "oh shit" buttons that WHM and SCH have.

We've got 2 useless emergenacies atm, horrible mana management when the extra healing is required because of the low potency of our abilities, and the cards aren't worth it for our weak heals.

I wish they had made the class similar to EQ2's Inquisitor with reactive heals, but instead they gave us crappy heal versions of the other 2 classes. That way they wouldn't of gimped it.

Long story short, class is under powered but is still playable. However it is still outshined by the other 2 classes.

The main issue I see with AST that makes it weak is the fact that their buffs are based purely on RNG, the same RNG people have spent 2 years complaining about. I can go to a mining node with a 96% chance to get something and fail 4 times in a row because "RNG", and that same system is driving the AST buffs.

Unfortunately nothing you say can turn the bandwagon of "astro sucks" on this forum. Solo healing any ex has always been rough, acting like its easy is just ridiculous. I'll wait for the videos of the users above to show their solo heal run.

If you have a good static group for the upcoming Alex savage, there will be no need for a whm. If you are trying to clear it with randoms whm/sch would probably be better.

No one will believe this until we prove it, so will just have to wait.

Solo healing an EX Primal (which all healers can do, and the others most likely far easier than an AST) should not be used as a means to take away from the fact that AST still has problems, especially in their cards, that -need- help.

And good look doing this outside of a static as an AST.

Yes, im with you, all the way on this. Belittling other peoples achievement is a one way drive towards a toxic community. Praise and appreciate other peoples skill, don't trivialize it.

I agree with this 100%.

Seeing people rip on the OP because of their prejudice towards Astrologian kind of made me angry.

As soon as I saw this posted on Reddit, I knew this vid would wind up here in a desperate attempt to prove that ASTs aren't currently horribly outclassed by both other healing jobs ATM.

CAN do they content? Sure. Is it EASY and/or EFFICIENT to bring them over the current WHM/SCH meta? Hell no. Nice vid, though; its always enjoyable to watch a capable AST at work, even if the job itself needs some tweaks. Now that my static is relatively geared (I was still in quest whites until late yesterday, lol), we're eager to sink our teeth into the fight before Alex comes out and all our attention is diverted to that.

Not sure you know what efficient means. Ast would be more so because ast/sch can buff the pt and whm cannot. So if you have a capable ast, yes it is more efficient.

The RNG with cards does kinda bulls things up when trying to put SCH and AST against each other DPS wise. I think party compo is going to be a consideration whether AST is good to take with or not due buffs really only benefiting certain classes, where cards like arrow are more beneficial for some as oppose the speed boost. Also dps wise SCH and AST are close and SCH will only more if they use their stacks for ED, however they do more DOT damage whereas AST does less DOT damage but more filler damage.

If the other healer can handle the majority of things and you can stand there in dps stance for prolonged periods of time. However if that is the case it might be worth going double WHM one heals other does predominantly DPS lol

Hilariously, everyone misses the fact that astrologians can heal relatively similar to a white mage with them only missing a burst aoe heal comparable to cure III. The real issue with astrologians isn't how well they heal but on their utility being completely random and mostly useless compared to other healers. While astrologian lacks the passive healing power to switch safely to dps mode like scholar and even whm, they make up for it for boosting other people dps. That is, if they actually draw balance, arrow or spear. If rng isn't on the astrologian favor, crap draws such as chain bole/spire/ewer are a reality.

Hell, i've drawn 5 spires in row on a party full of casters, and one would think shuffle is useful.

In such a case, a SCH would definitely be a better option. For one, SCH has spells that completely ignore ACC requirements. They also have an almost unlimited MP pool (least-MP constrained healer in FFXIV). Even in pure DPS mode, a WHM will still run out of MP eventually unless they stop and take long breaks to recover some of it, which ultimately leads to massive DPS loss. AST spells also ignore ACC requirements.

AST doesnt have a pocket whm with superhuman reactions to help them extend their Cleric Stance time.

I'd hardly consider SCH's fairy to have "superhuman" reactions. Plus, AST puts 690 potency on the table with two DoT's, one with no cast time, and pushes them out fast with Diurnal Sect's speed buff. If accuracy (and MP!) isn't an overwhelming issue, AST can apply Aero, and its flat nuke is 200 potency. I'm not saying AST is the superior DPS, as SCH has AoE options as well, but AST's DPS output isn't trivial either.

I did BIS EX yesterday with a bad whm, and felt as though on my SCH I could have totally kept up with the healing on both tanks and carried the run. On AST the damage was just too much to keep up with when the other healer was slacking.

To be fair DPSes kept attacking the wrong targets, so...

I'm all about the fairy, but let's be realistic: the girl is a little on the slow side without constant micromanagement :P

While this is all good and all.
This does not mean AST is with faults that need help.
The SCH/WHM could of done Ravana EX, much more easier.
It's still underpowered and all that stuff.
No ones trying to down that player but do note, it needs tweaks.

Depends on if the SCH has to cut down on their own DPS/swap to Eos instead of using Selene to cover AST's deficiency in raids. If either of those things have to occur, then buh-bye to that "AST buff efficiency" that you so love to go on about. (Assuming average luck on Draw, we're talking 5-6% DPS increase on a single target overall...on a SUPREMELY OPTIMAL DRG parse that's like an extra 70 DPS. I'm willing to bet that WHM's new dot and oGCD/MP-free Fluid Aura and Assize can easily do that much, WITH the added healing security to boot.)
