Another Bard post, changing mains? Discuss!

I am pretty much really salty right now. I am 59 and I have yet to reach 60 because I have other obligations, well I found out tonight before maintenance that our little big skill at 60, Sidewinder doesn't even proc Barrage, and THAT was the last straw for me.

My question is, are you going to change Job and if so, into what? I firstly picked the Job because it was my favorite archetype of any fantasy and the mobility was a huge bonus.

And secondly, will you revisit the Job? I will revisit the job if they ever change it, or when the job is brought more in line with the other classes. Hopefully MCHs get the same treatment. A tank in DPS stance can be on par with us, kind of a joke really.

I know there are a lot of bards out there that feels the same way I do but I just want to know if there are any of my fellow bards that are dropping their bows too. It is not a protest, it is not anger, typing this out made me realize that I am just sad.

Just doesn't feel fun so I lvled a MCH to try that out. Starting to not enjoy the feel of it as much and I don't know where I'm gonna go next. Maybe NIN or heals.

Bard life forever. I'm fine with the change, at least the concept. And I don't think WM is going to go away. I do predict a buff in the damage output, however, since everyone is complaining. (I never read anywhere about Sidewinder proc Barrage...was that a thing?)
I'm staying with bard. I'm still okay overall not doing high DPS because we are still a walking TP/MP regenerator. (We can't have top DPS, regen, and hit everything from everywhere).

I also picked bard because it was this game's archer. I was sad that there wasn't a ranger class, but that was okay. I still decided to be the best bard I could.

They do need to change a lot of aspects of bard in 3.0, hopefully before Savage Alex. There's no reason a Warrior should be able to outDPS any "DPS" role. If SE intended on that they should just throw bard in a separate category titled "Support" and create a true archer class or something. The whole situation with oGCDs being nearly impossible at times (especially flaming arrow) is really annoying. That and the random silence glitch where you can't attack anything for awhile. They could do a number of things to buff bards and I think they already know what those things are, so just a matter of time for them to figure out the #s. You won't see anyone playing the class if it isn't fixed because right now it's quite frankly garbage. Sadly I need to stay on it for progression and can't find any relief from MCH since that's garbage too.

I'm considering it, and I'm considering just taking a break from the game altogether. I get frustrated every time I log in, because it really just makes my favorite class unfun to play. As others have mentioned, the mere fact that the tank classes can literally out-DPS a skilled bard right now is just disheartening, and it shows that there wasn't much foresight put into how Wanderer's Minuet works.

If I do change, I'll probably go Summoner for DPS, with Scholar as my healer. At least they're still somewhat mobile.

Honestly, I've never been one to feel brd should be over the top DPS, but my primary...and still existing complaint is that weapon damage is still lacking. I'm glad they lowered the debuff of Paeon/ballad to 15% instead of 20%, but with still lowest weapon damage out of any other job prior to 2.0 (which even machinist ended up with) it begs to wonder what their reasoning is.

WP isn't too bad as far as I'm concerned as it is a nice boost in damage. While this translates to DoTs (along with Skill speed change) it doesn't necessarily inch brd up that much in comparison to other jobs either.

A lot of fundamental changes to certain job playstyles went out with 3.0 and I can only hope that as Alexander and a few other things come out that they make more sense. I have no problem filling a niche role, but the disparity in damage is and always has been noticeable.

When you play with really high end healers who manage mana very efficiently, bards/mch wont be needed. maybe for progression, but once people got the fights on farm you will see people not using bards/mch at all due to low dps.

This makes me sadface, I already was considering dropping bard due to the changes, but stuff like this just makes me want to do it more, my bard is my main at 53 almost 54, but I am thinking of just dropping it for now and leveling my paladin to 60, maybe by then square will get their crap together and fix bard to be viable.

I'm in the minority and like the idea with Minuet. My problem with it isn't the loss of mobility, but the dmg I should be able to do with it should be much higher than what I can do with it right now.

I'm going to main FSH, it does more damage and doesnt have a clunky as hell playstyle.

You know, brd wasn't even my original main. I started out as a drg, then swapped to main smn when I started doing endgame around the second coil era, and eventually swapped to brd around Final Coil. Now, I'm really looking at going back to my original mains. DRG for raids and trials, smn for dungeon burns. I love my brd, and I am good at my job, but hell, no matter how good I am, I'm always gonna be the sandbagger until there's a fix. I don't feel comfortable with that. I will keep my brd current and up to date in anticipation of it becoming viable again, OR if brd songs are as needed in Alex as they were in FCoB. But otherwise, yeah, putting the bow aside for now.

Also, I feel the same way. I like the concept of minuet, and I would be fine with seeing it stay. But yeah, the reward for what you give up is, very much not worth it.

Honestly, I think just the simple act of lifting the AA penalty from it would make enough of a difference to make it worth using outside of AoE situations and fight openers. One way or another, it needs some sort of a boost.

Level your MCH to 60 and practice more on it. It doesn't deal much better DPS than BRD yes, but game play wise it is smoother.

I swapped main to SMN/SCH at lvl 53; no regrets. First time though my highest levelled class/job wasn't Archer/Bard. The cast time with WM didn't bother me so much as I already knew how to play casters... the lower DPS from the insufficient trade-off between loss of autoattacks and the 20% Dmg increase (when not interrupting attacks by dodging) did. Actually getting new useful, fun skills every two levels for SMN and SCH now off that base ACN class. I'll probably get back to bard eventually if/when some of its DPS issues are solved. I don't expect them to go as far as people are asking, or do anything that could be seen as being an admission of having made a mistake with 3.0 bard design- that'll never happen.

I have a theory that every new SMN I see running around is a jaded former BRD. Myself included.

i honestly have no idea what to do.

leveling machinist at the moment just because i think machinist will be "fixed" sooner than expected. like fixing potency numbers and reducing the rng factor. unfortunately for bard WM is going to stay for a while till we see a fix. :(

Bard is definitely broken right now and anyone who says they are okay with WM and is staying in WM stance 100% are probably, most definitely bad bards. No offense, it's the truth. Not like I'm coming back in here to read replies anyway, lol.

In all seriousness, are there any videos of someone parsing less with WM on than without it? I can't seem to find any.

Next update: All bards can delevel their job to level 1.

Therein lies the problem, I personally cannot actually parse on the PS4, so I have no idea how my damage is playing out with it on versus with it off. Personally, I keep it on unless a certain mob group or boss demands a lot of moving. Even if it doesn't actually do more dps, it's good practice since there's no way SE is going to leave Bard how it is and I'm expecting either a nerf to non-WM dps or a buff to WM. I know I posted this somewhere else, but I'm pretty sure everyone's on the fence about the potency of WM because they haven't fixed the fact you can use Sidewinder outside of WM.

Not changing main per say because I love BRD, but I also play Ninja very well and our current Nin wants to plat MCH.

It works out for me because it will be super easy to gear since I can already use the right side accessories and have also gotten the Hive weap for both classes, its basically i180 as soon as it gets to 60 which is 2 levels away.

It was easy to decide a switch from BRD because of how lackluster they are currently, for sure, and the convenient gear path and overall fun factor of Nin made it a easy switch.

See, here's the thing about it. On a straight dummy round, it's comparable. For the sake of argument, let's say that it's not a dps loss in a turret fight. We'll say, worst case, you break even, best case, you up your dps by, say, about 5%. In fact, let's go straight with the 5% added dps option. And I know people are gonna respond to me saying that it's not an increase or whatever, but please, keep in mind, I'm just writing out a hypothetical scenario. Anyway, say it's a 5% damage increase in total, compared to the arsenal many of the other dps got, 5% is effectively, nothing. In our best case scenario, with no movement at all, our dps increase this update isn't even on the same plane as those of, well, any of the classes, dps or otherwise.


Now, in a real fight, we must factor in dodge mechanics, and, even if you know how to play with WM brd perfectly, I'm talking blm mode, knowing when to save SS procs and so on so forth, you are going to lose that 5% bonus, no matter how good you are. WM goes off, and we are, effectively, a 2.0 brd again, while every other job, is still a 3.0 job. This is all factored in on a 5% bonus. Even with a 10% bonus, the results wouldn't be much better. Anything worse is, well, I don't need to tell you.

Bottom line, with the most optimistic eyes, the additions to brd can't be viewed as anything short of, insufficient. I'd be fine with still being slightly behind the other dps, like we were in 2.0. But we're much more than just slightly behind now.
