With the beastmen strongholds about to be released, a new mini-game could be added with them. Save the players, obviously the name is a work in progress.
How it can be implemented, and how it'll work.
Beastmen always have weird devices, or magic that no one else has. Like the Quadav stronghold had the Mute, and the Afflictor machines. The Mute cause a very bad silence, while afflictor cause a very bad curse effect.
Now if the areas are instanced, or not it, could still work just not to sure about non-instanced.
What I suggest is that the beastmen have a device that doesn't allow you to be raised, or homepoint. Instead you are automatically teleported to a jail cell somewhere in the stronghold. It is up to your team mates to save you. If everyone is captured, then you fail, and are warped out.
How can you be warped out if you are captured? This can easily be part of the main scenario, the Selph, pay for you to be freed. After they want it back. 10k gil for each player in your party. So you can lose up to 80k from everyone. A fair penalty that promotes strategy.
To save team mates you must fight the Jailor NM, for a key, evrytime.
Bonuses for saving a team mate:
1. Gil for those not captured.
2. Dark Matter rewards
3. An achievement- "No one left behind!" Save 1 team-mate
4. 2nd Achievement- "Savior" Save 20 team-mates from a jail cell.
Cons:
1. Time Wasted
2. Gil is lost for a bail.
3. NM jailor must be fought everytime when saving team mates.

Maybe there could be cages every so often with a jailor next to it. It shouldn't be a long wait. More like 2-5 minutes.
It's so people can learn to play efficiently like most people want. And to be challenging, with a moderate penalty. -

I can see where this could work if it was something a-la Left 4 Dead, where jail cells appeared frequently, so you wouldn't have long to wait before you were rescued (2-3 minutes max).
That'd actually be pretty cool.
I think this would work better in an instance than in an open world area. -

The NPC would have to be a purely rewarding task. Where as the Player that is jailed is supposed to be a punishment for not being ready.
NPC jailed reward-
1. Time Extension- How could it work, possibly more npcs are jailed and need to be freed. So you are given extra time to find them.
2. Gil Reward/Item reward- Random reward where the jailed npc offers you either gil or an item such as a potion.
3. OOhhhhhhh just though of this. By helping an Jailed NPC, they could help out by making a trap for the boss NMs in the stronghold. When engaged the boss has a minute paralyze, or amnesia effect. -

Interesting idea you have. It just needs to be tweaked a little bit....
Ideas:
Sylph stronghold is some giant tree structure and it is being invaded by either the empire or another beastmen tribe. Special doors are locked to advance to the next level of the structure and can only be opened by a sylph. You have to find a sylph that is either jailed up somehow or cornered by its attackers and use them to open the doors for you. Some doors will require multiple sylph to open. -

I think these ideas are kind of cool. Something different and fun. If your charged a fee "bail" I would ask the gil be proportionate to your Rank or PL. Some players may not have the gil if they just went nuts buying gear and all. ;)

Environment damage.
Seems like the Ama'jaal are heat resistance. But we are not. You could have certain spots in the area that could be too hot for us and give a burn effect on if we stand to close to us.
A colored message would appear as so:
"A strong heat is bearing down on you"- Indicating you are close to becoming burned.
Burn effect trigger with this message "The scorching heat is too intense to linger here much longer"
The burn effect could be bad 100 hp/tick for 5 seconds when moving away from the area. -

If the jailor were an NM then as more of your party were captured, the more difficult it could become, if the team gets reduced to something like a PUG and a MRD then it'd be impossible to win unless they both ranked heavy into conjury. Maybe if the NM scaled with the size of the party that were still free it could work though, good idea ^.^

You could make it so that the people who end up in jail get ported to a jail that is ahead of you, possibly surrounded by a mob group that spawns if the jail is occupied. That way, instead of going way far away, they would be right around the corner, but balancing by creating a challenge to free them.
+1 for this idea, it's outside the box thinking that will get this game back on its feet :P -

Lock Picking. When Thief is added, or thief traits, which ever comes first. They could pick the lock instead of fighting the jailer NM. This could potentially save you a lot of time saving a party member. Though there should be a downside to it as well.
Picking the lock should be a small mini-game much like the DoL mini-games. Hitting a precise point into the chamber of the lock. f you fail you know fight the NM with adds. The number of add is half of what the number of your team is.
Party of 8 saving 1 party member with a lock pick and fails = NM Jailer with 4 Monsters.
Party of 8 saving 4 party members with a lock pick and fails = NM jailer with 2 Monsters.
The Fastest way to free them shouldn't always be the best action.
So Fight the Jailer himself, or pick the lock. -

this is a horrible idea. Not because its a bad idea but because you expect SE to be able to implement it.
Given that you -still- get locked behind doors which don't lock during nanawa leves, I seriously doubt they could implement something like this without an insane amount of glitches.

I like the thf lock picking idea, this was something I really wanted SE to do in FFXI more..they had it in one of the CoP missions and that was about it. They would need to make many more random spawned chests in future dungeons (After thief class is available) and make it that mobs drop keys, or thieves can just pick them...this would make a certain class be picked over another...but making the mobs drop keys doesn't make it a MUST to have thief...just a perk.

How about a "random" feature in a dungeon or whatever...where you are faced with 3 locked doors to advance... or three locked chests....one of them is he right one needed to advance...but its random each time...the incorrect ones spawn mimics...or bombs already on the verge of exploding! Randomness is the best! -

As for the gil loss, that is only in the event of a party wipe. You wouldn't lose it on one players mistake, unless the whole party wiped from the mistake. Just have it so when your jailed...your tied up to some torture device! and the goblin or what ever...is turning a lever to stretch your body or what ever....after x amount of time...you die!! And you dont want to die! dieing would damage your gear first off...but also having the timer cause you to die means you can't do anything for that timer...so people wouldn't just die instantly and then run back into the stronghold so people don't have to come find them and save time. Have to remember will will try and find a loop hole in every system and abuse it. So have to think how they cant exploit the game mechanic
Staying trapped forever is realistic yes, but this is where you have to remember its a game and people don't want that level of realism lol. -

In the case of a wipe with no money... hmmmmm.
A very long duration on Brink of death. 10 Minutes or more. Armor is badly degraded.
How it happens? With no bribe you could imply the character is tortured badly and pretty much left for dead, or not seen as a threat any longer and released. -

I dunno. No matter how it's spun, the thought that a player could get trapped until freed, for whatever reason, just sounds like a recipe for a system that nobody uses.
