Why... Why do they look so angry?! What has the world done to you?! Do you require a hug? Please... Don't be mad. It will be okay. It will be okay. *Hugs all the male Au Ra in Eorzea.*

Um excuse me, I'm adorable.

That is the first non-furious looking Au Ra I have seen. Maybe the male Au Ra in my world just have problems... I do wish there was an option to turn off the weird chin-armor. I kinda wanna fantasia into one, but that is one of the big things that bother me about them.
Wrinkle prevention...

Lol.... yeah. It's quite hard to make a "neutral" or soft expression of male au ra. But it is possible. Some faces more than others
I don't think my Au Ra looks angry.

I couldn't keep him for long.

What i want to know is why they're like 6'8 ft tall when the females are barely able to ride mounts legally without a booster seat
yeah, with such height difference it feels like or the male are very, very delicate to the females or very brute and take anything they likes cuz females just look like midgets to them. Imagine the lalas xD
I think I look more french then anger. lol
We can smile, there is an emote for that !

Gotta take into consideration with what the player had their height set to vs the retainer male. I have yet to find an Au Ra female as tall as mines, whenever I'm near my friends they are always as short as possible or in-between. I'm actually max height though I will admit that the males are still really tall in comparison... just more so for shorter Au Ra's. xD
It takes 37 muscles to frown and 22 muscles to smile....and 0 muscles to /straightface the shit out of people

They looking angry? Good sir, did you ever watch them posing? They change from one model-pose to the next one. I could imagine them selling boxer shorts!
I'd assume that the babies are of the same height, but due to likely hormonal differences during puberty, that probably changes. Also, the height difference isn't what would necessarily make mating difficult. You're assume that the wedding tackle is proportional to size of the fisherman. Sure, there are likely to be SOME lucky Aura males, but if mating was nearly impossible or difficult with a male Aura having a third leg, then evolution would likely make it smaller in proportion to their body than a race such as the Hyur.
Of course, we are all assuming that they procreate in the "traditional" sense so many of us are use to employing for ourselves.
This. Woulda been nice to have the Xaela be taller. They wouldn't need a bigger build or anything (Although that would be cool too!) just have the option for taller height.
Roe females have 1 foot of optional height to play around with. Wish Au Ra females in general could have gotten that too.
To answer OP's question, I think they look angry because the eyebrows slant inward (like I think it's the only eyebrow option for the males)
On that note, are the babies born with horns? Ouch. imagine the contractions on that thing. Gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "it's crowning"
I just wanna say that if Lalas and Roes can share an Eternal Bond ceremony, I don't wanna hear it about Au Ra height differences XD
The Au Ra guys can actually look really...boyish when they use some of their emotes. I do agree they have chronic resting angry face most of the time. I shall join in the hug giving...provided my horns don't harm any in the process.
At birth, the bones of children are largely composed of cartillage, which is quite flexible, otherwise it would be very difficult to birth them without cracked ribs, etc.. Over the first couple of years this mostly is replaced with bone. It might be
that Au Ra children are born like this.

I don't think I look angry. Bored, maybe, but not angry.
i ask the dark knight quest giver if he needs a hug. then he gives me a look.
i swear all xaela have a massive chip on their shoulder.
It's to appeal to the crowd that sees appeal in the stern but flashy.
And I am now part of that crowd. From now on you must call me Coldsteelbloodegde Darknessshadowpants420.
Anything else and I'll only answer with a "Heh" and smirk with my eyes closed and head ever so gracefully tilted away as if to say "I'm hiding my anxieties by pretending I'm simultaneously above and deeper than you".
I really like the Au Ra especially for their differences. The women look elegant, yet capable and the men are rugged, yet handsome. I will admit that they look kind of angry in their neutral pose though. Mind you, if I had to try and find a comfortable sleeping posture with all those horns and protrusions I think I'd be a little upset too!
All Male Au Ra I've seen in this forum's avatar always gives >:[ face, almost looks like my avatar's face lol

Just idle expression. Feel like being a softie male is doable :D
Like they don't even have to toss the sexual dimorphism motif if they like it so much, just reverse it. You know what you don't see too often in fantasy games? Races with big, tough, scary women with tiny, cute men. Or even better make the Raen have big tough guys and tiny women, while the Xaela are the reverse.. Or even go Midlander/Highlander to an extreme with the Xaela looking big and scary with both sexes and the Raen looking cutesy and petite with both sexes.
