Can't buy the new retainers?

Heya :)

with the update of the mog station, you can now buy (or rent) up to 6 additional retainers, except: you can't.

The pulldown menu only gives you the options to have 1 or 2 (but it says up to 6 in the description).

Not sure if that's a bug or we just have to wait.

The servers have only been down for half an hour. The patch hasn't been implemented yet. It's probably not a bug.

Nothing to win by paying for more retainers really. You only lose money by doing so.
Sure you can store more stuff. But if you sold stuff you won't be using for weeks or even months to come and later farm/buy what you need you could even earn more ISK in the long run by doing so.

Edit: Also, considering all the people who actually pay up to hundreds of dollars a month on "mobile" games, I think the answer even then would most assuredly be a resounding yes. I personally do not view anything on the store to be pay to win. Just look at WoW and buying characters that you don't have to level or LOTRO, or Neverwinter.. or DDO... even Archeage... or many other numerous MMO that actually let you purchase items that truly would be considered pay to win.

I think you really are reaching with this one ;)

Do not think for a second that you can come into a thread and tell other people how to spend their money. There is a thread for people complaining about this, you should probably vent your frustrations there, not here.

Listen this is not new. This service has been around for a good long while. If you are that upset about it you should have done something about it way back when. Cause I do not think it is going away even with trying to scare us or guilt tripping us.

8 retainers = 8 venture coins spent every hour = 192 ventures every day. Lol have fun doing nothing in HW but farming ventures :P.

its nothing to do with pay2win its just more storage and if u say its cause of retainer ventures then u gotta factor in how long it will take u to get 192 ventures per day and i doubt anyone would want to farm for that long.
if people are willing to spend money for more storage space they can which shouldnt be upto u to decide if they can buy it or not all because u dont like it.

How is not having more items up on the Market Board at a time an advantage?
How is having more active Ventures not an advantage?
How is having more inventory not an advantage?

You make more Gil by using your head, planning and research. I can make 1-2 million gil very easily a *week* by using my brains and reading the markets and knowing what is actually selling with just 1 - 2 retainers selling things. It's quality, not quantity. Just 4 of the items I sell *daily* go for 30-50k gil total *daily* (depending on the daily fluctuation of the market) and that's just my 4 set items that takes about and hour to farm just those 4 items, daily. This doesn't even include the rest of the time I need to spend on gathering and crafting. You get out what you put into it. If you think you can instantaneously just unload stuff in mass quantities onto the MB and that those items will actually sell instead of sitting there for weeks...

It is not a numbers (of retainers) game. Ventures bring back a *lot* of crap and for the most part, aren't really worth the time to farm. Heck I don't even send out ventures unless I need some shards to craft with lol

Why would having more inventory be an advantage in any way shape or form? How is collecting unique/untradable/binding items going to really give you an advantage over anyone?

I bought extra retainers, realized I didn't even need that much room, and the extra ventures weren't worth it imo. If you're selling 6 retainers worth on MB you're doing it wrong. I don't feel inferior to anyone who will have 6 total retainers, neither should anyone else.

In the 40 minutes that my retainer farms 30 white button mushrooms, the level 20 or whatever item you need oodles of for buttons in a blanket, I could farm 300. I mostly send her on the ventures to get them because it gives her something to do.

Playing the marketboard is not the intended gameplay, Extra retainers are not P2W. Not to mention we've known about paid retainers since 1.0 and they were implemented in 2.0. You are very late to the party. If it bugs you that much, vote with your wallet and stop playing a game you feel is pay to win.

I'm planning on getting the extra retainers, not because I want to sell things on the market.
Not because I want to spam ventures.
But because I hoard every piece of gear I come across. For the probable chance that somewhere down the line, I will want it as a glamour item.
And the fireworks. Oh, dear Rhalgr, the fireworks. I'll have one retainer, whose 175 slots are entirely filled with them.

Also telling people to not buy something is such a waste of time because they are more likely to buy it more. Just as people who say, don't buy it, end up buying it anyways. I will be buying my 4 more retainers cuz one, it's not gonna break my budget and two, I like supporting a game I love to play.

Paying for extra retainers is definitely an advantage, but its hardly p2w. That many retainers will require a LOT of maintenance, yeah, you will now have 160 slots to sell stuff on the markets, but really, how easy is it gonna be to keep them full? its not. its going to require a LOT of time to farm/craft for those items. The people that will get the largest advantage out of this are the lifetime Disciples of the Hand/Land, who tend not to do much else. Maybe a couple people with extra retainers in your FC will take on the responsibility of selling off FC materials. The airships look like they'll be supplying plenty of things to sell.

My main concern here is the influx of gathered items from botanist or miner retainers. Prices on things that were hard to get are going to plummet. I manage the 3 gardens at my FC house and plan on getting my own asap with more gardens. extra retainers to provide things like topsoil and seeds are very appealing to me. I don't get a lot of help getting these items and pretty much supply them for the FC, but I basically get first dibs on everything :D. The extra retainers would really lighten my load, and would probably really reduce the cost of items like this. That's the other thing, the effect on the economy is probably a factor in this AND the extra money will support new servers for more housing wards. So in the big picture, this isn't a bad thing.

All that said, we should still get at least 1 free retainer and more tabs in the Company chest. That said, the reference in the PRELIMINARY patch notes was preceded by a [2.0], so the possibility of the free ones is still there. I wouldn't stress too much until we get the full patch notes later today.

Let me tell you a little story... My group was doing T9 and then of course someone had to mess up dive bombs and the heals and bard die while we're sitting on a lb3, but who comes in?? My conjurer retainer!! YES. She went on casting lb3 quickly to save the day, then she vanishes again. It was soooo awesome and it's probably the reason why, come this patch, only jobs can LB3. Of course that day she brought me a
High Allagan Grimoire Of Healing also since it did not drop for me :(.

Some of us were professional crafters long before we were professional fighters. As such, we keep and store tons and tons of crafting materials to keep on hand for any crafting job that may arise. So, the additional retainers are greatly helpful to us.

actually, its more than 192, as ventures cost 2 coins, so 8x2=16 per hour, coming to a total of 384 per day.(if you stay up for all of the 24 hours).

all of your points require the player to play 8 times as much compared to others to truly take advantage of the extra retainers. the only thing that is an advantage without having to do anything is the inventory space.

When I see people touting all of this extra space to sell their junk with added retainers, I seriously wonder what they are imagining that people sell and in what kind of ridiculous quantities.

Unless you try to sell every little thing your retainers steal from Pottery Barn, there is no way you have a constant need for that many sale slots. It's a ridiculous argument.

I don't need to sales slots, necessarily, but 40 never really was enough for all the stuff I do sell. I do need the storage slots as a professional crafter-for-hire.

My retainers aren't full of crap I'll never use, and I've only got the two.

I'm sorry you're bad at inventory management.
