We've seen the new skills (some) , we seen the new jobs, but what of the new traits? A lot of people under-estimate the value of traits, have they been revealed anywhere, or will we just have to wait?

they aren't adding any new traits (although i'm not sure how they're going to replace the cnj protect one)
Idk why not. I think they could make some really useful traits for some abilities.
Personally I would love to see a trait for shadowflare where it has a chance to renew its duration. Like it now has a 10% chance on damage tick to renew its duration and maybe add a diminishing return effect if it was too overpowered.
OR MAYBE ANOTHER FREAKING AETHERFLOW STACK ! >.<
new jobs*
And no, I don't believe so. I haven't even thought of it actually; it's pretty interesting.
I thought you were referring to the new jobs. The existing jobs won't be getting traits - that is confirmed.
I'm really wondering though. Mostly because of the MP of Yoshida's BLM in the live, in the fight against ravana he had about 5700PM for 7000HP when sync lvl54 but when he was unsync at lvl60 he had 11300PM for 9800HP.
So at some point his MP suddenly jumped over his HP, maybe it's how the stat will change with lvl, maybe his armor have piety (a lot of it) or maybe it's a new trait.
What about Scholar? I'm pretty sure their new AoE heal skill is costing them a stack. Only having 3 when that's where quite a few of your healing skills come from seems kind of... harsh.
I'm actually really surprised the jobs aren't getting new traits from 50 to 60 (I remember reading somewhere they might get them in 3.1 or something), when they've always been a part of the leveling process so I find it really strange that they'll be absent.
As for the three new jobs, I'm pretty sure their traits are going to be fairly close to the ones we have for existing jobs (+their main stat, +one of their buffs that makes it better for them, +longer buff/more damage on something to help scale better with higher levels without it being OP at the lower levels, ect). I don't think they've been talked about before because they probably won't be all that different from how traits work now.
@Nevaldus: Holy f*ck the .gif in your sig is a huge file. :\ It's crashed my browser three times already and I had to turn signatures off just to fix my post.
It's mostly that traits are here to improve cross skills, to make them stronger when you use them on their original class. Since jobs don't share their skills giving them traits seems useless.
Except the +main stat but that could be added without any traits anyway.
I would actually love to see Job Traits. I feel like a few of my Dragoon specific abilities could use a nice buff. Lower the cool down of some jumps, increase the jump range perhaps, or even remove the return to original location effect allowing it to be used as an opening ability.
Pretty much this...
There isn't really much wrong with the current set of abilities, except some few, like Tri-disaster, which they are fixing anyways... But they probably just want to add to what we have, instead of change it. Adding traits to the new abilities are useless.
I don't have the info in front of me, but doesn't the Blood of the Dragon(or whatever) buff the jumps? And the jumps are fine as they are. Jump returning you to the same position is part of that ability, changing it would make little sense, and it can be useful in some situations.
I wish traits work to modify our play style. Something like out of 10 traits we can only activate 5, and these will modify our skills so we each play differently depending on what we like to use.
I mean as it stands, stat traits might as well have been folded into our leveling stat growth curve and skill effects folded into the skills themselves. There's absolutely no choice whatsoever involved with traits, and other than a few specifics (such as the WHM Protect) we might as well forget that traits existed.
I really would love traits to be added for the jobs themselves this expansion, something to further diversify (is that a word) each job from one another. At the same time I'd love for more stuff that actually makes us different (merit points, more skill 'choice' and so on) to make people more different...obviously though, stuff like this is ruined when people theorycraft and say "you must" have "x" or "y" >.<
*cough* Racial Skills *cough* as well? <3
This would indeed happen with simplistic options that modify the potency of skills, resulting in quantifiable benefits. But when the choices involved are things that cannot be consistently quantified, or things that are one niche versus another, then personal choice triumphs.
For example instead of things like +2/4/8 primary stat (the current stat traits), have a +5% Accuracy trait option that can be turned on when we don't have enough Accuracy, and turned off (i.e. choose something else) once we get the gear for it. Instead of having skill buffs last longer (the current skill traits), have trait options that modify how skills behave (e.g. Jump that doesn't return you to the original position; Cure proc that gives damage absorption shield instead of free Cure 2; larger Flash/Overpower range etc).
World of Warcraft very successfully revamped its talent system providing many personal choices, I'm sure FFXIV can, too.
Maybe Proshell will be replaced with increased in-combat MP regen. >_>
I'd like to read this thread but after a few seconds it crashes due to a HUGE sig. ¬_¬
No new traits is a disappointment. They have the potential to be just as interesting as (or in some cases, more intetesting than) active abilities.
I complained to the user in my previous post. :x
Is there any way to report it? I know you can report the post, but the post itself is fine. But the user doesn't care/doesn't go on the forums frequently as the image hasn't been removed. I'm pretty sure Devs can edit forum signatures if needed, but this file is staggeringly huge. I don't know any forums that would allow anyone to have an image so big in their signature.

[EDIT] That's about an 84 MB .gif for those too lazy to math.
People keep saying there will be no new traits. Where is the source because I want to see it.
Im sure some of the traits and skills for current jobs will be reworked. I can't imagine Holmgang being useful in HW with only a 6 second timer, while PLD HG is still op and DRK Living dead is almost 20 seconds. Here's hoping Berserk gets buffed to a 30 second timer lol.
My understanding from watching the videos on this, is that they stated "Traits/skills will not be gained by leveling up, only by doing job specific quests" This implies to me that one or more of our quests will also include a trait as well. I could be wrong or reading to much into it. Will try to find the exact video that said that and post it here.
I don't know where I heard/read it but I remember that there are no new traits nor class skills, only job skills learned every 2 levels. I think it was a Live Letter or something similar though..
And well they didn't say they removed the proshell trait, they just said that other healers will get the full protect, it could be done by adding a trait to every healer even if I'd love if they give WHM a trait to fix the MP regen of SoS.
and i was hoping for a trait to make blood for blood last longer...
a bit sad to not get new passive with 10 level added still.
To add to this here is a source confirming the no traits claim.
Famitsu Compiled Translation
It is unfortunate but some traits may be seeing some tweaks possibly. I would presume the ProShell CNJ trait will get replaced with something new.
Well, they're not so much fixing it as they are renaming it to Tri-Bind and hoping no one notices. It'll still see the same amount of use (that is to say, none) as post-nerf Blizzard II. The Tri-Disaster mentioned in the live letter will be a brand new post-50 skill.
Not getting any new traits though is a disappointment. At this stage there are several which really should have been considered. At the very least I would have liked to see another aetherflow stack added for Scholar and Summoner. It feels like they've given up on the class at this point and just thrown any old skills on it just to make it look like effort.
Even though they're not giving us new traits (boo-hiss) they must surely be tweaking those existing skills to ensure they're still relevant and compatible with 3.0. I noticed several posters have mentioned ProShell; this is one trait that will have to be replaced by something new given that ProShell is to be merged with the Protect ability.
Yeah it would have been nice to get some cool new traits. Even if they had less of an impact than those of 2.0. It gives a sense of character development and achievement, that and GL IV would have been totally awesome!.
They for sure will fix some of the older traits (Proshell and tanks traits especially) but many new skills were added, guess they are keeping the traits for 4.0 as you can't give new active skills every new expansion or it'd be a big mess.
Proshell will be changed to something else, removed or given to the other healers as well. Who knows.
I feel that we need more passive abilities. :D
