So with all that MP DRK is gonna be new Flash AoE-Aggromonster?

So DRK is gonna get Crossskills from PLD and WAR. And we know that DRK will have biggest MP Pool by far because it's his tanking-resource.

Up until now all Crossskills were somewhat less usefull for Crossclasses. OK, the Paladin Crossskills have always been super important to WAR (like Provoke) but I'm thinking it's somewhat sad that DRK could become a better AoE-Aggromonster with a skill that's originally from PLD simple because he has a lot more MP to spam it.

As a PLD I'm gonna shed a tear whenever I'm losing AoE Control to a DRK that spams more Flash than I'm able to do myself.

Hope they adjusting Flash MP cost for DRK.

From what information we have, this will likely be balanced out by the fact that DRK relies on its MP pool for the vast majority of its skills.


A DRK who Flashes away all of their MP just to steal AoE hate likely will not hold that hate for very long, and will look like a very bad DRK.

I dunno for sure how DRK works yet but if I wanted not MT I wouldnt waste all my MP on flash if MP was my main way of tanking.

I think it would be similar to a PLD spamming Flash. Sure there might be more, but it's a terrible way to hold aggro for anything other than maybe a big pull at a roulette.

Flash will never hold a boss.

As I wrote: AoE Control. Please don't all argue with single boss agroholding cuz that's not what I'm talking here.

It's the situation like in FATEs or Crystal Tower or Coils like T4. As things are, WAR is already a better AoE controler than PLD but I was fine with that, because in my eyes PLD shines a little better for big Bosses. But if DRK is gonna surpass the PLD even with his own skill in terms of AoE Aggromanagement, it blows me off somewhat. Like if I'm gonna do FATEs or CTs successor in Heavensward I can stay in Sword Oath right from the beginning as I cannot hold grp of Mobs against WAR or DRK anyway.

Which current tank isn't an aoe aggro monster? Sure, before they buffed flash, I actually had to work harder at managing MP as pld but it wasn't that tough and after that buf, it was pretty smooth sailing. Don't need to flash as much, don't have to go to the point of OOM, can slot in more riot blades as a result, alternating riot blade and flash is safer, can finish fights with more mp. I mean, sure warrior does it even better, especially when they also use flash to juggle their mp/tp ratios so that they're always generating aggro in every pull but as far as I have experienced, the challenge in dungeons aren't the aggro but mitigation management.

I'd rather have a DRK that focuses on DRK skills that likely deal damage, than an enmity generator like flash. It may be useful as a skill to pick up adds, but I doubt it's going to be DRK's go to skill for managing enmity.

Grit, the tanking "stance", doesn't drain mp or block mp from being regenerated. Darkside is the ability that does that. They can be used at the same time apparently. I agree with everything else though, flash seems like it will be as irrelevant for DRK as it is for WAR (more so actually, since DRK has a use for their mp).

To me, he can spam flash, then use that combo that applies debuff to enemies to keep hate on foes while restoring his MP. looks like a good AoE tank for adds.

I'd rather see flash to establish initial enmity, then Darkside to inflict more damage, establish more hate, and kill mobs quicker, and then restore MP during downtime. Any use of flash beyond securing hate over the healer seems like wasted enmity that could be done with DRK skills that do damage, especially considering that flash, untraited, doesn't apply blind.

Keep in mind they are reworking cross class skills for all tanks, so we don't necessarily know what the cross class will look like for heavensward.
That being said, i don't see them not getting flash.

iirc they have an aggro generating MP-based AOE skill of their own, so I don't know why they'd bother using a crossclass for Flash especially when the Blind isn't even attached to it.

Also I'm not entirely sure what you're worried about, OP. WAR is already AOE king, you're not going to pull off a Unchained + Berserk + IR + OP spamming WAR. If I see a WAR head into a trash pack on PLD, I just turn on SwO or try to get one of the bigger mobs on me. I don't really see what will be different with DRK, even if they're somehow more of an AOE aggro monster than WAR.

Didn't they mention that skills will be balanced in order to accommodate the new classes?

Is there any words on flash to be buffed or it stays the same?

To the main topic, I'd say it's up to the players. I see some bad tanks and good tanks in my experience and its really up to their skills.

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if Darks don't get flash. Flash is a light spell, and they've restricted cross-classing for abilities that are too good for some classes. Like thunder.

They've already said dark Knight will take gld and mrd crossclass skills.
They didn't remove thunder as a crossclass from SMN, they removed it as a crossclass period.

But really, the whole idea that they COULD flash about 14 times still doesn't change the fact that it would be retarded to flash that many times. What would be the purpose? So you can hold hate off a pld? Is that really an issue?

Aoe hate only needs to be generated enough that you maintain all the mobs, anything excessive is unnecessary fluff.

They also said they are reworking all of the tanks crossclass skills, so it is up in the air as to how that will work out.

Didn't read the entire thread, but to op. If your tanks are spamming flash to control multiple mobs to the point you run out of mp. The issue is not with the mana pool but with the tanks

If the dark knight page where their listing out their skills is true. It seems that Dark Knight has their own version of flash named "unleashed". But I see them using something like that or flash to maintain hate. Regain mp and then go into Grit stance to DPS the group of mobs. If anything, it seems like DRK may play like PLD, but have more offensive ability. More so if what someone said earlier about the two stances being able to stack is true.

Well one reason flash is useful besides it is a static circle instead a cone, is because it doesn't have to be aimed just placed. So it will have the same practical use as a warrior besides the fact it was mp. Not having to aim an aoe in t4 way back in 2.0 made the fight much more manageable before the aoe adjustment. I wonder though would flash even be on the table with Bloodbath, Mercy stroke, Convalescence, Awareness, Foresight all be up for grabs as well as provoke but drk seems to have their own.

It makes no sense why DRK would be able to CCA Flash. It's a white magic/holy ability. How would that fit into DRK? Overpower, yeah, that's more likely.

DRK can crossclass GLA and MRD. Flash is a crossclass GLA skill. Overpower isn't a crossclass MRD skill. DRK will get Flash.

Whether or not DRK can cross class flash and whether cross classing it would actually be useful are two different things. Remember, scholars can cross class cure - but what's the point when physic has the same healing potency, same mp cost, same cast time, and same recast time? If DRK has its own MP consuming AoE agro grab skill, equipping flash might be a waste of a additional skill slot, even if they are allowed to use it. We'll have to play the class and see... soon, very soon... lol

No, flash does no damage, you should not be flashing more than you have to. Even as PLD, all I do is flash 2-3 times or so and then rotate my combo around. I only flash again if I deem it necessary but that is very rare, only when I get a very geared BLM cuz my PLD is very under-geared.

Why would DRK cross class flash when they already have their own version of it? It's a wasted slot.

That we don't know for sure. the drk skill could also be a cone shaped aoe which requires a target to begin with like overpower. in this case flash has it's uses.

I would be legitimately surprised of it doesn't have a unique pool of CCAs it can actually pull from MRD and PLD. It would make no sense for a dark knight to be able to use a light spell.
