Is it me or SE just forgot that whm is suppose to have a "water" line of spells? So far only Fluid Aura is the one and only water spells. I was really hoping for more water type spells instead of more powerfull stone/aero ones.

Only some of the new skills were shown, not all apparently. o:
Curative spells are water-based, in lore.
Iirc, cure was considered a water spell and not a "light" spell. Unfortunately I'm not recalling where I got that info, could be from another player's speculation... ;(
If I do I'll edit and post a source.
No they're not.
I don't know where this comes from but they're not. Esuna is, but cures have a green aura which makes them wind spells.
(Cast the spells in game, Stone has a yellow aura, so do protect and stoneskin. Aero has a green aura, so does cure and cure2. Fluid Aura, while insta-cast does have a blue "gathering" effect around the caster, and Esuna has a blue aura when you cast it.)
If you look closely at the "aura" while casting certain spells, you'll know which elements they represents
Cure = wind (green aura)
Esuna = water (blue aura)
Now that people figure out that cures are wind base and not water nor light base, where are ours other water base spells? I was really looking foward to new skills and abilities that were water base since they are lacking so much. AoE pure dmg or more utility like binds paralyze and such.
They did mention WHM picking up DoTs separate from the Aero line, maybe they'll be water thingers.
Fluid Aura, Esuna, Shroud of Saint, Presence of Mind, Divine Seal and Cleric Stance are the current water based abilities in CNJ/WHM arsenal. There's more than people realize.
I do believe people specifically are looking for attack spells with more cool water effects and not just blue auras.
Another fun fact, Holy has a Rainbow Aura when you cast it!
It very clearly has the blue water aura effect right as you cast it before the big shiny Divine Seal animation itself takes over. The only spell that doesn't seem to have a direct element animation on the character is Regen.
Edit: While not CNJ/WHM spells, Eye for an Eye and Virus are also water based.
Water dming spells would be pretty cool. Not sure what dmg niche it would fill since we have a Single Target, DoT, and AoE with Holy filled, but I'd like it just for aesthetics sake.
One thing to remember: VERY few Final Fantasy games have the player characters able to use Water spells outside of A.) Water itself, and B.) Summons (Generally Levi.). X is the only main numbered game I can think of that let you use Ra and Aga water spells, though funnily enough no water summon (probably because SIN was technically the water summon).
So basically going by the usual trend, there probably won't be many water spells at all.
Stone3/Aero3 is quite a let down. If they secretly put Ruin3 on Summoner too and didn't announce it today I will probably barf.
I rarely use Aero2 as it is.
I'd just be happy with a Fluid Aura II AoE spell, really.
Just give whm dispel, and we'll have a water spell :)
give whm quake, flood, tornado naoooo!!
Just wanted to pop in regarding the lore evidence of healing spells being water-based, since it seems the idea was ditched.
This is taken from the level 5 conjurer quest:
I had interpreted that bit as "healing is water", or at the very least, not earth or wind, since healing is all that Sylphie can do. Of course, since it's not outright stated, you are free to interpret it as you wish.Quote:
As you yourself have witnessed, Sylphie possesses a natural talent for the conjury of mending and restoration. Alas, her gifts appear to have blinded her to the need for study, and she outright refuses to learn about the natural world. She knows nothing of the elements of earth and wind, and is quite incapable of conjuring even the tiniest pebble or the faintest breeze.
Either way, it doesn't seem like new water-based offensive spells are planned for now.
While water attack spells might be nice, at this point I'm happy to get some new healing spells. I suppose that, if anything, the catch is that White Mage and Scholar are starting to bleed into one another's roles where previously they were strongly defined. White Mage has long been known for it's exceptional healing capability, and Scholar has it's shields and instant-cast heals. Soon, White Mage will have instant-cast heals and Scholar will match on healing capability. We'll see how things play out, but I worry there will be little to distinguish the two when 3.0 comes.
Still, on the positive side we saw some great new spells included which will help immensely in combat. There seems to be a revamped Holy spell which has a cure element to it. Presumably, this spell will lack the stun element of it's predecessor in exchange. Aero III is going to be an area effect version of the original spell, and I believe Stone III will also. So finally some ranged DPS! Very exciting stuff.
I had been wondering the same thing, OP. Where are my water damage spells? But I also hadn't realized how many water skills we actually had. Esuna is my favorite spell in the WHM arsenal (I'm crazy, I know), so I am pleased to hear it is actually water-based. In retrospect, that makes a lot of sense.
I wondered how long it would be before someone posted one of these. Why do people hate diversity so much? Seriously, if you don't want cool DPS spells, maybe you should quit being a White Mage. Because that's what the update is bringing us. Ranged AoE DPS in the form of Stone III and Aero III. We're also getting a damaging heal spell which looks like an updated version of Holy.
So... if you're so dead against DPS on a white mage, there's plenty of time to throw in the towel.
Is everyone just gonna gloss over the fact one of the new spells we were shown was clearly a water spell? The large barrier that's likely the skill mentioned as Asylum, meant to be the new ground targeted healing field. It's water, complete with flowing water and bubbles and everything.
Do people not actually look before they start complaining?
My current theory is that if Sch and Smn had gone over better with being on the same class. They probably would have added Geomancer as a dps job for Cnj and given it more water and a couple other element DOT's that Blm doesn't have.
I think Asylum is the Water one.
It's the BARRIER heal I believe.
I can barely tell if it's water but it looks like it.
