Yes, those are CASTING TIMES on our abilities...

No I didn't, lol. I just got up and watched the job skill video and was horrified when I saw a delay on Windbite and Poison Shot.
You have essentially a new stancesong (It doesn't cost MP and can be mixed with your other songs). In it, you will lose auto-attacks entirely, and your actions will require a charge time during which you won't be able to move - but it is supposed to significantly amplify your DPS. It's meant to be swapped in and out based on if you have an opportunity to safely do so.
you can choose when to play a song that allows stronger attacks, but you cannot move and use them or auto attack when this song is playing
Prepare to see a lot less bards. Most love the ability to just run around all the time loldpsing.
That, or prepare to see a lot of bards not using minuet, since its a song and all.
Well no, this will sort out the good bards with the bad.
Bad bards will obviously go in a different job
Good Bards will know what to combine with this song (I.E, if it actually gives an buff, Raging Strikes/Hawk's Eye).
Also, was it actually said we cannot auto attack? Cause I believe that's not true.
It sounds like the new song will probably be used more often for AoE attacks since the Bard's auto attack is pretty powerful when coupled with their buffs. I could see a Blood 4 Blood + Wanderer's Minuet to deal excessive damage, but otherwise the boss you'd use it on would have to be standing completely still in order for it to be beneficial. Skill speed will definitely be more important for Bards though, and I think that may have been their original intention.
Either they're wrong or we can't auto attack while running. No auto attacks would make Barrage a useless ability, in the literal sense.
Edit: Hm, if he says that then that worries me. Barrage is best used with blood for Blood and Hawk's eye, so "Putting all your abilities on and going nuts" is definitely out of the question.
if you can swap on the fly between the song and not having the song, I can see a LOT of tactical viability and I'm actually a little giddy at the possibilities.
If it amplifies damage, this means you activate it to set your DoTs, then swap out of it when mechanics come your way, then back in during "safe spots"
It also looks like it might give Skill Speed viability if they make the changes they said they were going to (which was a nebulous "We r teh changin it")
This is honestly the only buff BRD was missing. BRD is going to be epic now! :)
It really depends on how much damage this new song actually amplifies our attacks by. If it's significant enough to make up for the initial song cast time, loss of auto attacking, and the additional casts to our attacks, then yeah it's probably a really good song to turn on during fights where movement isn't key. I would imagine that you would need a good 15 seconds worth of being stationary in order for it to be worth it though. Unless they're changing it so that skill speed affects song casts.
I'm a career bard and I can see this having situational uses.
Fight where I need to dodge constantly, e.g. Midgardsormr in Keeper of the Lake? This song is a no go.
Fight where I can stand in one spot and just spam AOEs without moving? Pop this little ditty (with some Quelling Strikes, probably) and watch the damage fly.
Well how I see it. Is there isnt alot of fights that requires movement. Fights are pretty scripted in this game so dodging and attacking shouldnt be hard. bard can toggle on and off wanders for barrage. The real question I guess is if the buffed skills does more dmg than a regular skill + auto attack
I kept telling people that it'd be unfair if BRD's could do as much damage as a BLM per hit while maintaining their ability to move around freely as much as they want. But hardly anyone listened of course.
Thankfully, the development team is smart, and thought up a way for BRD's to be able TO dish out as much damage as a BLM, while having set backs to think about with this new song. Having played BRD quite a bit, I can think of many situations that call for this song stance or when I shouldn't use it. I'm gonna enjoy BRD even more now. >:D
It's not just that, Bard's can sneak in Bloodletter and Repelling Shot mid-global cooldown, and if their abilities have a cast time, then it makes their global cooldowns less efficient. The damage bonus has to be extremely substantial for it to be considered as being on more than off. I could see it though as an opener to set up the initial Poison shot + Windbite + Sidewinder combo.
The other problem is that it will lead to scenarios where you just finished putting up the song and something happens that requires movement, which will lead to players either being willing to move and losing all that time they spent casting, or take the hit so that they don't.
Inb4 bard op please ner(joke aside) this new song is pretty cool i just hope the damage buff makes up for the negatives
I don't understand why people are dreading this. Bard is my main DPS job, and I love this idea! But I also don't run around like a headless chicken when I play on bard, and yes, I also sing my songs.
If you move... AT ALL... the effect disappears. This seems like a seriously situational skill at best. The bonus damage would have to be very significant for me to give up my mobility, auto-attacks and attack speed just to use a handful of skills with long charge times.
I'll reserve judgement until I've had a play with it, but I'm not thrilled by the immediate prospects yet.
Weren't people worried about BRD DPS before?
Look! DPS! Sure, you can't move while you do it, but that's game balance for you.
This makes me want to level a BRD all that much more. I like the thought of hunkering down like a tank and blasting away the enemy.
EDIT: By "tank" I mean the one that demolishes, not the one carrying a sword and board or mama's big axe.
I'm actually kind of surprised they added this type of mechanic to Bard. When they talked about Machinist having an optional stationary stance that would let them turret like a Black Mage I assumed that would be a key mechanic that would make the job play differently, but now they both more or less have the same capability with Bard seemingly being less intuitive about it.
