seems like every time I come back from a break the streak of maintenances comes right afterwards. so many shadow maintenances its irritating as hell.
Hotfixes on patch 2.57 apparently needed some hotfixing but instead of calling it hotfix on the hotfix they just call in emergency maint. lol
Most likely something incredibly minor that could easily wait until a regular maintenence, but this is SE we're talking about. Even Sega/Sonic Team had a better track record with this stuff in PSU, and that's saying a whole hell of a lot considering how they borked just about everything else in that game.
Maybe to prepare to the event for tomorrow?
I'm guessing increase of poetics per instance/roulette bonus, since 900/week takes quite a bit of effort. That way we can go back to quickly capping and being out of stuff to do for the next 5 weeks.
SE isn't THAT bad. And at least they keep up to date with maintenance. Better than playing other games that just patch the game, then have them shut down for 2 days while they fix it, then bring it back and then constantly do "live maintenance" to fix something, or disable this specific something. They DO do live maintenance, sometimes, but not as often as other games that I've played. And things definitely are much "healthier" here.
I love all this hate on maintenance. It's like they don't want the devs to fix the game or something. "Can't they just wait till a proper maintenance to do their hotfixes?" Then what would be the point of calling it a hotfix? No, seriously, hotfixes are usually fixes for something that could be potentially game-breaking though the latest one was mostly to quiet the people crying for poetics to be uncapped. But such hotfixes are the exception, most others have actually been to fix things that could break the game. I'm fine with maintenances, it means they care enough to fix it now instead of later. Besides, it's Tuesday night during a school week, shouldn't you be getting some sleep?
Also emergency maintenance can be to fix exploits, which they aren't going to list under patch notes either. As that sort of info doesn't need to be put out to the general playerbase.
Also hardware maintenance, server side updates, that info isn't listed in patch notes either. Only the stuff that is applicable to us as players.
I wish it was to add the option to default to "commence" on controller. ^^;
I've played many MMOs. None of them had so many maintenances. While I do appreciate bugfixes, I'd rather they do a (slightly?) longer maintenance once a month than 1 or more 3 hour maintenances every other week. The other MMOs I played did that, and it worked far better.
I've played a lot and many of them have weekly maint o_O
I have never felt they over-do their maintenances, they often finish them early too.
As someone who played a Cathar in SWTOR back when a certain update actually deleted my skin color, and then left it broken for a month and a half... No. Just no.
If you have a serious bug, and you know how to fix it, don't sit on it for a month just to avoid depriving a few people of a few hours of playtime. Take a nap, watch a movie, read a book, and enjoy that bugs are actually getting fixed in a timely manner.
I've played The Secret World, LOTRO, SWTOR, a few Perfect World games, 9Dragons, Runescape....none of them had this many maintenances...
There's a difference between a gamebreaking bug and an inconvenient bug. If it's gamebreaking, it's important to note it in patch/hotfix notes. How often do you see many of these in these emergency maintenances? I don't see them often. It's almost always small, insignificant, or non-urgent fixes/additions to the game.
These things can be thrown in with patches they needed to do anyways. They do not demand a separate maintenance every time they notice something is a little wrong.
Edit: Also, it should be noted that every maintenance takes away from our paid subscription time. Is it a lot of money going down the drain? No, but the principle is still there.
Edit again: Also, Fenral's bug in SWTOR is one that should have been fixed ASAP. Just clarifying that it is a gamebreaking bug. Most of the hotfixes on here do not seem to be for very gamebreaking issues though.
*Resub today*
*Maintenance*
Every time.
Wanted to submit a world transfer application too.
Oh well.
Just in on the JP forums, the hotfix is for the PS3/PS4 heavensward pre-order issues.

I saw a thread a couple of days ago stating that EU PS4 users (I think it was) were able to pre-download the majority of the Heavensward content now, but it messed up the game version so they were unable to log in after doing that. The solution until now has been to re-download the game, all 15 GB or so. For a lot of players I believe that's more than a hassle.
It's possible this maintenance is to fix that problem server-side. A large chunk of players being unable to play at all IS a game-breaking bug by its very definition.
So, emergency maint for the console peasants
Agreed, though it still doesn't change the fact that a ton of maintenances have listed very insignificant and non-urgent things only in notes.
Also, I'm not that savvy in this area, but couldn't this have been fixed without bringing the servers down? Especially since PC users are not affected at all.
don't worry about her comprehension, she never took English classes in school I guess..
Anyway, I do feel like SE does way too many "hotfixes", this time it is unusual, but after any patch, they'll usually take it down the very next day for ~3 hours for hotfix meaning that some bug has slipped through the cracks and they weren't able to catch it before it went live.. This is why we need a test realm so we can test for bugs on a much larger scale instead of having a small in-house team testing them out.. Does anybody ever remember a single patch where it wasn't followed by a hotfix the day after?? I don't, I understand it's sometimes necessary but with FF14, it seems to be a 100% of the case.
Well if you live in NA, maint started around the time many would see as a good time to sleep (Not all, but many.) For the EU, this issue in paticular seemed to be affecting them the most if I'm correct so it was probably for the best in their case.
Really the hardest hit here are the JP players. Middle of the day for them.
Well, it looks like people are going to have to reinstall the game anyways. I feel for you console players!
A cookie for you sir!
That's what they had in TSW. A testlive version for players to assist in helping them find bugs and get feedback before finalizing the game's patch.
Today's maintenance is from 13:00 to 17:00 jp time (from lodestone: 日 時:2015年5月21日(木) 13:00より17:00頃まで). Acceptable, people usually work at this time.
and this, quit whining and get back into the game (that queue)

By the way, it seems the update is up for download on PC. The servers are still down though.
EDIT: nvm, servers are up :D
They show up as "Online" on my end, checkin now.
Yep, in game.
I wish they'd just put that quote of the bad translation in the quote.
That being said: TL;DR: Basically they fixed that issue that EU had with their preorder code from the Heavensward code claim site. (I honestly think they allowed the codes to be entered too soon (the code that's supposed to be entered in PSN)...theirs should have also said 'Pending' too after entering the code on the site where you claim (I'm still waiting for mine).
The fix was apparently to prevent the issue from affecting anyone else. The people who have already pre-ordered have to reinstall.
Oh for crying out loud. Emergency Maintenance = Someone found some way to exploit something and it's spreading rapidly, or the last patch was lagging/crashing people more than some set threshold. If it was an actual "emergency" eg A large chunk of internet connectivity falling into the ocean, requiring NOC's to rapidly route around damage, it would not be something within SE's power to rectify. The worst case scenario for a 2 hour maintenance is likely firewall/routing equipment changes, which in turn requires patching the servers and clients, albeit in minor ways.
If you noticed, the launcher/patcher AND the game client were both updated. The game client patch was the same size as last time. So you can logically draw a conclusion of something net-code related, otherwise no game client patch would have been necessary.
And no Sega does not have a good track record.

Yeah... erasing stuff after an update... very very very bad.Quote:
Some users reported that their free HDD space increased after downloading the update. Others reported entire games, such as Battlefield 3 or Final Fantasy XIV, or anime files being erased. Many PSO2 players reported unrelated data being wiped from their computer after downloading the update. It seems data that shares the same drive is affected.
Are others able to login? I'm gettin a white box poppin up when I try to login after puttin in my password sayin "Unable to perform version check. Version information is not consistent between FFXOV Boot, FFXIV Updater, and FFXIV Launcher. Please restart the game.
Anyone else seein this? is this just something that means the patching isnt done and its sayin servers are up by they actually aren't and its more of a bug? or is something actually wrong with my game now and I need halp with it.
I dont care im just glad that for once the maintenance didn't affect me <3
So this is what it feels like! To be at work when theres a maintenance!
and people are getting disconnected or lagged out left and right now.
Mine is working fine, yup, when I tried to re-enter game from the start menu it sent me out with an update to the launcher, then updated the game itself after I signed in.
At this point, I'm like "can we please have one week before HW without a maintenance?"... :| (I'm quite sure we won't, for a good while, after it's released.)
Also: oh well, console again. And hey it's only EU region again! I just.... idek what to think anymore. :|
