Noticed a real problem getting this game

I bought this game a couple of months ago at Gamestop for $15. It was the last copy they had. I have seen 1 or 2 copies elsewhere but they were full price. Fast forward. My friend wants to buy the game since playing a character on mine.
We went to Walmart, 2 Gamestops, and a local gamestore.
I live in the 4th largest city in the US, and this game could not be found.
Check steam - not there..
He refuses to pay full price plus S/H, so..

How are we suppose to get new players when theres so few copies in the wild?

Sell cd keys please, and make the full client available

Amazon Canada shows the regular edition and collectors edition for 39.99 and both are eligible for Super Saver Shipping. So unless your friend has more of an issue paying full price, give that a look-see.

I'm glad I got this game at full price while I still could!

The game is back to full price which is 39.99$ for PC don't know the reason for this but, if you want your friend to play A: He can pay the full price or B: buy a copy on ebay which i see a few for 15$ or C: Look for someone who would sell you a buddy pass.

Sorry there not much you can do on this issue.

If your friend lives in europe, the price there is still 10,90€ on amazon

Buy a EU key for 10USD online and use it to play on any server you would play on with a US key. Let him download the game from your CD or torrent it.

I have a feeling that once the PS3 version is released, a new version of the PC game will be released too with updated descriptions. Until then though, after all the reviews way back, i think it's gonna be hard to find. The UK version is always on amazon dead cheap though, seen it go down to £3 a few times.

I doubt SE even wants people getting this game at the moment.

I got hold of my copy for £10 from Gamestation. It's quite common to see at least one or two display boxes in video game stores in the U.K. Kinda odd that it's less common to see in U.S game shops :3

lol there is like 6 copies and a CE at the gamestop near me. The price was probably lower for so long because they believed the game was going to fail and close long ago but now thats its being pushed for a revival they raised the price hoping to make more money at Gameslop. Hope SE doesnt include cupons in the newly released PC/PS3 cases when the re-release happens or Gamestupid might open them, remove them and sell them as new. And i know i saw some ff14s on amazon for like 10$ in the past 2 weeks while searching for something else.

Aye, theres a reason that you can't digital download FFXIV off SE atm.

They dont want new players coming into a game they most likely won't stick with.

It's now almost impossible to find in Australia's biggest gaming stores aswell.

I know in my town i can find about 10-20+ copy of CE and nonCE version of the game but the price went back up 39.99 which sucks i was going to buy the CE version for 25$ so i can have two account one for my friend but i never had the money for it to buy it :(

I knew about it being on amazon. He has no way to purchase it that way right now. We only checked steam to see if that was an option. This thread was more about the problem of it not being in the brick and mortar stores. Now most game stores PC section is very small now. What I saw when I was looking through them was mostly MMOs- Every box of WoW, Rift, FFXI, Anarchy Online?, D&D Online, and some other really old MMOs. I really hope they reprint, or stores buy remaining stock of PC ver when the ps3 ver releases

PC games seem to be dieing out since online functionality was given to games consoles, now you don't needs a pc to shoot people like back in the days of counterstrike, you buy halo/CoD and go on xbox live/playstation network.

The only superiority PC's have over consoles nowadays when it comes to games it's upgradability (which is a double edged sword (prettyness/cost to upgrade)) and more buttons, which apart from MMO's is never required since most pc games are ports from console games, rather than 10 years ago when it was the other way around.

Purchasing an MMO that started badly, like this one, in a store is gonna be hard, because usually if something doesn't sell they take it off the shelves to give more shelf-space to something that will sell.

some people with certain financial histories only have cash, and while you can buy 1 time visas from store, if any site tries to verify it through zip code, it could lock you out of your money(unless you call the card company first and wait.) other meat stuff: people like to walk into stores to buy things, not have a package sitting on your door step that 2 times out of 10 is going to get stolen. but I see your points. we were just going to buy it at any store yesterday at any price and it wasnt there -1 sale as he bought dues ex instead (but i guess they own that too)

The game cost me 249 NOK in a norwegian Gamestop, which is about 45$. To me, that is about 1,5 hours at work, and I didnt mind paying that since most games here in norway costs almost double that if not more. Most ive seen a normal edition game sell for is 799NOK, 145$.

I bought the game for £3 from Amazon the other day. ¬_¬ Although that was the UK site so it doesn't help you much.

I really think SE are missing a trick here by not providing the download and registration codes online. Considering they're already losing money from not having subscription fees, you'd think they'd do what they can to make a little money from the game.

Sort it out, Square Enix! You have people who want to buy your game here!

Okay, that makes sense.

Just to give a run-down on prices from what I've seen in stores lately, I've seen the standard edition for $40 at Wal-Mart and Hastings, $30 at Best Buy, and the collector's edition for $40 at Gamestop. So if there's a Best Buy near your friend, you might have him try there.

SE have zero intention right now to pull in new people or try sell copies, they are planning a relaunch which will then just be your average game sale.

lol This game is back to full price because as broken as it is its still good enough that its only competition is LOTRO, WoW, and lol Rift

LOL, the only reason I got this game was cause my amazon account got jacked and they baught this game along with some other junk and it was sent to my house. A couple days later some1 tried to buy a tv that costs 2k and it didnt go through cause the card was mostly maxed out. Anyway, I'm surprised this game isnt in the more popular stores, not to mention the fact that you live in one of the bigger cities, maybe SE is trying to cut some losses.

The game is technically still in beta.... Once it's fixed ( within another year or two ) they will release more copies as if the game had just came out. Along with media

Personally I would go with the collectors edition at gamestop because if you are a collector of Final Fantasy games then even though it is an MMO it is a box you will want on your shelf.

Really? I know of over a dozen copies on store shelves in my area across multiple retailers, including EB, Gametraders & JB.

It must depend on where you are.

He don't need to download the game. He has the DVD, but no Buddy-Pass for his friend because he has the standard version.
