No problems from South Carolina via TWC, but I spent a lot of time with their Tier3 support off and on the past year or so trying to stay ahead of the congested routes.
Verizon has been getting a lot of reports for internet issues lately. Most recent areas reporting in are Denver, Washington D.C., Broomfield, Brooklyn, Los Angeles, Silver Spring, Arvada, La Habra, San Francisco, and Atlanta at the downdetector.com site. May be worth taking a look at your route to the SE servers to see where things may be bogging down. Depending on where the issues appear to be showing up, their Tier3 team may be able to address the problem.
NY Verison FIOS user here. Same issue. Only started happening with the new hotfix that doubled the poetics cap. Using WTFast resolved the issue, but I don't want to keep having to pay extra just to play the game.
Raist, it has to do with FIOS, we've had this issue before. While those outages could have something to do with it, why would it happen right after a hotfix?
The same reason you hit a traffic jam when you're already late? Traffic ebbs and flows due to countless factors. The same goes for congestion and devices flaking out. Could be weather. Could be a major entertainment event (remember...we are no longer analogue).
Since you were able to demonstrate it appears to in fact be a problem in route, that very likely puts the ball in Verizon's court to find a way around the downed/overloaded segments.
Yeap. Fios in NYC here..had same problems. Back to having to use WTFast to play. :/
I have had on and off issues using Fios since starting to play in 2013. I used to use WTFast which worked great but recently found Pingzapper. At least for me it works exactly the same but only costs $4 per month which is slightly cheaper than WTFast. Not the best solution obviously but I have given up on Fios fixing the issue so this seems to be the next best solution.
Yup same issues, I'm in New York City and also Verizon Fios, super laggy last night after the patch. This happens quite a bit and is very annoying.
MA person here. Same issue. Verizon Fios. I just came back too, this is not making me want to stay...
When i switched to fios i had to use WTFast. I switched back to my old carrier. You can call Verizon and see if they would do anything, from my experience their customer service is utter crap and that putting it lightly. Best bet would be to use a GPN such as WTFast. Hope you can find a solution!
In Los Angeles area on TWC. Didn't have lag until recent patch with the poetics update. And we get 90k errors and get booted. Never really had this issue except when game first came out. Our internet speed is not an issue. Always seems this stuff happens with pending big patches, etc., which we have seen happen to many other people. Really aggravating.
Lagging on Ultros in the Tampa are on Verizon. I've been lagging since the hotfix in everything I do. Never disconnected, but have had periods of lag and then a surge of activity catching everything up for me. It's caused Leviathan to disappear on me during a light farm, which isn't all that bad except I'm the tank and can't do my job properly if the boss disappears.
Correct that speed is not an issue with this game... but not in the sense I think you were applying it. The game hardly needs better than Dial-Up bandwidth, which is something many often mistakenly use for speed. Technically speaking, each bit travels the same miles per second as every other cable customers, you are just given a different number of channels and different frequencies, as well as possibly different time slices on the network to provide different levels of bandwidth (you send larger/smaller bursts, but each burst travels at the same speed--the game rarely approaches DSL-Lite levels of bandwidth during normal gameplay).
The issue at hand here is latency, which can impact the timely and orderly delivery of packets---which when get out of synch call for retransmits. If things are far enough out of whack, it results in packet loss and potentially loss of session. These issues basically crop up because of congestion--either because of downed nodes or oversold markets leading to overloads at exchange points amongst the various ISP's that negotiate a route to Montreal, or particular route hops along that route.
This is something TWC can and will work with you on if you can gather some information for them (ie: tracerts) and get in touch with the proper level of support (Tier3) either via the TWC forum at broadbandreports.com (other ISP's have forums there as well, not just TWC) or through their email at TWCable.Help@twcable.com. And yes... I know it can work for you, as I have noted my success with the process several times--as well as others that have reported getting things addressed through TWC's Tier3 support.
Oh, and they are having quite a lot of problems on the TWC networks in a lot of areas lately:

That image above represents a recent history of outages and is used as a thumbnail for a link to the larger live outage map they link to at the URL above it. The live map is also linked to in the following notice that also appears on that page:

im glad i aint the only one with this problem, hopefully something gets fixed in the next patch.
I'm having issues as well, during peaktimes in evenings, typically between the hours of 7pm and 10:30pm EST. I am in Washington D.C. metro area (Northern Virginia) and using Verizon FIOS. I have absolutely no problem doing anything else during those hours, so I'm guessing the problem lies in the connection to this game specifically. No problems with any other MMOs, including WoW, Tera, GW2, etc.
Like others have reported, I'm getting lag spikes every 5-10 seconds, for about 1 second at a time. Its made raiding impossible for me (I basically got carried through titan) and frustrating as well. I'm really, really hoping this is resolved by heavensward.
As I noted earlier in the thread, Verizon has been having issues for a while now. Check their status at downdetector:
https://downdetector.com/status/verizon-communications
Look through the recent comments at that main status page. 20% of reports are blackouts, 60% are internet problems---only 20% of reports are phone issues. Also, look at where the reports are mostly coming from:
Some important waypoints on route to Montreal are in that list.Quote:
Recent reports mainly originated from: Philadelphia, Washington D.C., San Francisco, Bradenton, Virginia Beach, New York, Bronx, Los Angeles, Richmond, and Pittsburgh. View on map
If you look at the most recent map (linked within that quote), you will see some really bad spots going through the North East... particularly the Washington area as well as the NY/NJ corridors and such, which is home to some major hubs. The thumbnail image they use as a link to the "live" map tracks recent history, but most of it is covered by the button graphic. Here is the actual image:

So yeah.. there still appears to be some issues with routing through to Montreal for the Verizon customers. Whether that is on Verizon itself, or their ALTER.net affiliate, or their other routing partners---there is something going on with their service that needs to be addressed. You need to get in touch with their support teams.
You can try their own support options from their website, or maybe the twitter/facebook links at that downdetector page, or you could post in their section at the broadband reports forums (most of the ISP's that have a forum there have Tier3 techs that monitor them, which is ultimately who you need to be in touch with).
So I am very glad that I am not the only one with this issue, I play on my PS4 and I was almost to the point where I was going to reset my PS to see if that was the issue. I can't even check my retainers without lagging or being frozen for like 20 seconds, and it is honest starting to get on my nerves slightly. I really want this issue fixed so I can go back to playing without being lagged like 20 seconds to almost a minute behind everyone else and dieing.
Wow, thanks for all that info! I'll definitely take a look at it once I get home from work, willing to try anything to get this lag resolved. It really is frustrating and cutting into my performance to the point where I loathe raiding with my FC, because I simply can't do mechanics.
yep log in today a noticed alot of lag especially npc taking forever to pop in.
Use comcast in South NJ area never really experienced this much lag since the patch. Completely messes up mudras half the time.
I have been having issues since the most recent Hotfix as well, and I am not on Verizon. Las Vegas with Cox Communications here and its made the game unplayable in any kind of instance. I lag out for about 20-30 seconds and then everything catches up, a good chunk of times with me dead.
From montreal, ISP is videotron, lagging on FF14 but on nothing else. Been having random spike since 2-3days ago.
Same i posted awhile ago the lag got better then its back again.... pretty much can't do anything with the lag spikes and im with TWC i did contact them alot and they won't do anything about it they just keep telling me its the game not them and that they don't go through any other company when im dropping packets through a certain area in my trace route so i know it's them.... but yeah no clue what to do about it guess ill just have to take another break and hope it gets better with expansion since they wont try to fix it even spent 300 bucks on a new router thinking that might help nope..... Also to add i do not lag on any other mmo i play as well just ffxiv so it must just be the route my isp is taking to connect with ffxiv and what not...

Should have better luck going through one of those routes. Sometimes the "helpdesk" guys just don't get it. Should be able to cut through to Tier3 faster through one of those options. They can do something about it. They've done it for me quite often...just changed my route up in fact--was on TATA yesterday, on Cogent today.
I posted on there forum hoping i get some help through that thank you very much for the links much appreciated :)
