EU Datacenter. Any news coming in Paris Live Letter XXI?

Hi there FF XIV community.

I know many european players are complaining about EU servers since launch, but almost 2 years after ARR release European still have to play with this strange and unfair lag that is really annoying for us.

And watching a video from Japan or North America makes me cry and feeling really jealous. I love this game, I really love it, but I'm really tired of this low-quality gameplay and disappointed after every Live Letter, letter of the producer of any other kind of event where SE don't tell anything about EU datacenter.

So here I am, asking you if you will say something about that in next Live Letter, which will take place here in Europe. I've got the feeling that I'm losing my time writting this words and having hope after 2 years but still...

Yeah I have also been hoping for some updates on the state of EU datacenters, and has been hoping it is launched at same time as Heavensward so we can also experience all the glorious new expansion without our typical server lag that puts a damper on the gaming experience.

You guys aren't the only ones that get lag playing on the West Coast in the US is equally as bad because the servers are in Montreal Canada.

Once we get the EU servers relocated to the EU, there's always the possibility that the NA server could be relocated to a more suitable location for you guys. :)

edit: probably unlikely, but it is a possibility

It is not similar.
Not only a matter of distance... Some EU ISP stupidly reroute connections to NA, which make the game almost not playable for many people.

Realistically, moving around Datacenters beyond having them in the right region is going to disadvantage someone.

Anyway, your all soft. I live in Australia and we have terrible latency as norm. The game is still playable.

Last mention of Eu datacenters comes from an interviev a month ago. Basically after 7/8 months the news is that theres no news. Wont be there at launch and they dont have any estimation of ETA but please look forward to it :)

What's the typical expected latency from EU to montreal anyway? I'm playing from Indonesia atm, have 300+ latency, still dodging titan ex slides and plumes like a boss. If it's below 300 and people are still having trouble, I think there's a possibility that after the server move, they'd still have 'lag' troubles stemming from crappy quality over just pure latency speeds. Short distance, bumpy road, etc.

I think EU datacenters will be in Nantes or near in Brittany. Why would they come to Nantes in May ? There are no gaming event until Epitanime at the end of May (which is a "small" event) and Japan Expo in July (Yoshi-P said he's coming).

Your title is misleading, it's in Nantes and not in Paris :p

I think that it's fine if non EU people are happy with how they can play the game, but I don't think that it's unreasonable that EU people ask for their EU servers to be based in the EU instead of across the pond.

You can play it fine and/or are happy about it, alright, I'm glad for you. But don't try to diminish the issues that other people are expecting with something that even Square seems to acknowledge, or either they wouldn't even have considered moving them, which they have. The only question is when will it happen.

I hope they will give feedback on the EU datacenter soon. It's been a long time since they mentioned it. Since they didn't mention it the last months I doubt it will launch alongside with the expansion. Probably later on.

Having servers in the EU might actually help out some others from outside the USA and EU. Got a friend from south africa - let's just say dodging anything time sensitive is near impossible - he managed t5s dbs a few times on a good day - most anything else... not happening.

I'm not trying to diminish your issues. I'm just pointing out that having your server be closer to you might not be a guaranteed 'fix' to your lag issues. I'm in asia, playing in the Montreal data center with american players (for the most part) for coil and I've had one or two members who are in america had it worse than me, connection stability wise. Then again, people in EU crying foul over moved data centers still not fixing their connection issues doesn't really affect me in anyway.

The jump over the ocean adds about 80ms, so e.g. I can play with around 110-120ms latency. The rest comes from cheap providers which don't provide enough overseas bandwidth, so packets have to take weird routes or are dropped frequently. Servers within Europe should help most of those people as that traffic is cheaper, so even their providers can afford it.

I don't have issues, personally, but I know plenty of people that will benefit from it. And I'm well aware that it won't fix everyone's issues either, but it will help alleviate them :) That's the whole point, that something can be done to greatly improve it for many people, and it should be done. Not to mention that it can also be a good start to improve it for our american pals if they don't have to worry about the EU servers anymore (but not much hope for oceania, I'm afraid...).

It's ANYWHERE connecting to the servers. It's the level3 hop. I live in Washington, DC and can not play this game without using a tunneler. And I have had 75/75 FIOS in two separate locations experiencing the same issue on the east coast. I'm not sure SE realizes how many customers they are probably losing to this lag.

Playing on an EU server would probably be better than playing on the NA server, honestly.

Yeah I'm in the middle east, connecting to NA server and massive lags, getting killed many times because of it. If the EU data server opens up I'm moving there for sure, this will make it MUCH better for me. @140-200 ping for an MMORPG isn't bad as compared to an FPS game like battlefield.

On the title screen when selecting a data center, at the bottom the "Chaos" data center says recommended for residents of Europe. If this isnt the EU data center then why is it recommended? did they do something to it to optimize for EU connections?

The Chaos datacenter and the EU tag recommendation is about the Language and the time zones. It has nothing to do about where the datacenters are located. Both EU and US ones are located in Canada.

somedays u lag really bad (yesterday night is a good example ) is funny because every1 in the static lagged badly or Dced (we are all from the same country) but the Pug didnt have lag at all ( he was from germany i think) , sometimes u have ppl from other countrys lagging and u are ? LAG ? what LAG? sure he failed and is blaming lag......makes u wonder if they were truly lagging :( :rolleyes:

Well, rebooting this thread after today's Live Letter.

All new content seems nice, but no word about Eu datacenter. Me, and the rest of Europeans players aswell too I guess, waited all the streaming expecting to hear from Yoshi any word about it. At least "we are working on it", or something.

But no, he didn't say anything, and I'm starting to think that they've forgotten that stuff and we never have our servers. Last year they said they were trying to do it. Today absolutely nothing.

I'm not gonna lying you guys, I'm very dissapointed. Happy to see new changes, but sad thinking that our game experience will be bad for lag.

So I'm thinking seriously about not buying Heavensward expansion even though I'm really hyped with all new content till they dont say something new about this. I don't mind to wait some months playing like this, but at least I want to know that someday we'll be able to play better than now.

Heavensward looks amazing but i´m not going to play for this exp. Square Enix don´t care about their european customers anymore :(. It´s a pain playing like this, not impossible at all but really annoying.
i don´t care about european laws and related stuff, sounds like excuse for don´t locate eu datancenter, play like a european community member atm is like be a black sheep.
