Quick question about my role in a DD first room run

Hey everyone, I've done this 2 or 3 times as a Bard but the party never really knew what to do exactly. I'm at 43 for WHM now so once I hit 45 and have Holy I wanted to use it to level up quickly by finding a good party that knows what to do. Was just wondering if someone can give me a quick rundown of what I do as a healer when doing this. I mean I know heal of course, but what's generally the idea, once the mobs are all collected, hit everyone with Regen and then Cleric Stance and blast them with Holy? Just thinking I'd be out of MP long before they are dead so wasn't sure how many times I should be spamming Holy or what not? Just don't want to be that guy that everyone is annoyed with for not knowing what to do! Thanks!

As a WHM, you should be aware of how the tank is pulling the pack and if they're tagging everything or not. If they are tagging everything and getting somewhat low on HP during the path to the tank spot, Sprint ahead of him and drop a Cure on him as he's going by so he can resume without too much impediment. The big thing you want to do is kinda stay on the heels of the Tank, but far enough back so you don't accidentally sight aggro any of the mobs s/he is trying to pull.

Once the pack is in the designated position, you'll want to Holy at least 3 times to maximize the stun effect. I'd recommend putting Eye for an Eye up on the tank at this juncture (if you have it) as well as a Divine Seal + Regen.

If you have Swiftcast up, use a Swiftcast Holy followed by popping Pressence of Mind when your GCD is about 50% cooled off then Holy twice more.
If you don't have Swiftcast up, use Holy then one random GCD (I usually use Blizzard II at this juncture) then Holy twice more.

Add more Holy as your comfort level / MP would permit (I generally Holy until about I get to about half MP, depending on group composition). Use Shroud of Saints to regenerate MP at around the 70% MP mark and try to reapply Regen before Divine Seal wears off. Weave Cleric Stance toggles and heals between DPS moves if the tank gets too low. Even with the damage reduction buff, the tank can still take some pretty hefty damage to be aware of what cool downs they are using and use appropriate spells that compliment them. If all else fails, better be safe than sorry and letting the tank die.

Also be aware that one type of mob in the dungeon can apply an increased damage received debuff that should be removed ASAP. (I think it's the mole type mobs that can do that).

This is just a general guide line to how I do DD farm runs and your strategy will most likely change based on your own play style, group composition, and player skill and comfort level.

Anything Ghislain said except that its the anglerfish that use the vulnerability buff. And it doesnt decline so it will always be 15s long :/

Before you do use Holy, you should factor in how much DPS your group is doing. If your group DPS isn't enough to kill things at a relative fast pace, you're going to need to shift your Holying into conserving mana through heals and dots (Aero, Aero 2) and occasional Stone IIs.

Remember that if you, the healer, are doing the majority of the DPS--meaning your DPS is slacking or aren't efficient in their rotations or choices in skills--the encounter will drag longer. Thus, you need to be wary of that as well. :-) This is a very specific situation, but being aware of this and what the above posts stated will help you in the long run.

Great thanks everyone! Will try to remember all of this but definitely helpful. As a side question, I've been in some low level dungeons before where the tank insists on speed running it like Cutters Cry, basically just booking it to each boss running pass all the mobs. He kept telling me to just keep him alive for 15 seconds, and everyone ran and then ran into the boss area. It happened fast though but was just wondering what happens there, like can the mobs not enter the boss area and then after 15 seconds when it seals off do they just all die or get locked out or something? There were 2 new people in the party so was chaos and never worked, but I know higher level dungeons and what not people do that more often so just was curious what the process is and what's supposed to happen? Thanks!!

I've never seen people do it at Cutter's Cry but in Brayflox HM it's very common. What happens is that the mobs outside the boss room reset when the boss room locks.

Cutters Cry is special in that way as many areas are locked with teleports - on the first part you have to kill stuff so the teleport shows, but on the way from 1st to 2nd boss you can run through mobs, sprint away and click the teleport fast and the mobs will stay back. That way you can avoid killing 8-10 mobs depending how you run. Never tried skipping on the last part from 2nd to 3rd tho, im not keen on pulling the chimera while i have to keep mobs at the barrier so they keep locked out xD So to answer your question, if you want to lock mobs out you have to keep them out of the boss area until the barrier goes up, then the tank runs in the room and when he's out of range of the mobs on the other side they will reset.

Adding onto Magistrella, essentially after the Anteater boss in Cutter's Cry, you can skip the three sand-zones with the teleports just like you would in Praetorium :-)

Great thanks, yeah skipping the teleports worked but miss out on exp so fine if you're at 50 already, but it was running to the 1st boss where he pulled all the mobs there as well so just wasn't sure if they physically couldn't enter the barrier or what. Just to confirm, the tank has to keep them outside the barrier and then run inside just before the 15 seconds are up? Just wasn't clear if the mobs can physically pass the barrier ever and he's just standing at the barrier waiting for the countdown, or if he actually has to keep them outside of it and then book it in just before countdown is up?

He tanks the mobs outside of the barrier line (with him inside the arena) so when the barrier goes up, the mobs are outside the arena and disengages.

So

Tank || Mobs ( || is the Barrier Line)

Someone pulls mob to Tank, who engages and gets hate and when the barrier line goes up, the mobs outside disengage. Tank then proceeds to put boss into position (if necessary).

Just want to add: If the tank keeps standing at the barrier the mobs will not reset and keep hitting him. He has to run out of attack range for them to actually do so (after it went up ofc)^^

Great thanks again, I think the issue is when they don't explain it to new people, those people keep attacking the mobs while he's got them chasing him to the barrier, or the whole party stands there doing that with 1 person staying outside of it etc. Good to know! Just got Holy last night, man I feel badass now that's the sickest spell!

So I did this last night worked okay, did 3 runs of it but it's pretty intense got a little rough but no one died woohoo. The thing is I don't know how anyone can get Holy in! The tank would literally be taking damage non stop, so I'd have Regen up but even Cure II wouldn't be enough to bring him up, so sometimes he'd be around 50% HP for a solid 15-20 seconds. By the time I'd Cleric Stance and then even swiftcast Holy, he'd be getting pretty low so only got it in once or twice, couldn't really see what damage it did. Other issue was I'd full on run out of MP near the end where I'd be waiting for it to refresh to get a cure in, so didn't want to waste it with Holy. Worked good though did it 3 times but the XP really wasn't as stellar as I thought it would be, I think I'd rather just run the whole dungeon normally. Got my to 46 at least!

That's because a speedpull requires you to know exactly where the tank is going to stop if you want to use Holy so you can cast it before the mobs catch up to the tank. Quite honestly I think if someone is going to speedpull, then you as the healer should be told up front, so you know if/when the tank is going to use Hallowed Ground (which is a level 50 skill) otherwise I'm reaching straight for Divine Seal+Regen+Cure II

I have amazing advice for Aurum Vale. You may sometimes have enough mana for a holy or two, but only really use it on the malboro sappling that spawn when you're killing them for EXP. Your holy damage vs. their high health pools is definitely not worth the mana. >_< With how shaky the instance is with a newbie group, you'll be getting pulls left and right if everyone isn't careful!
