I still find myself calling some guys playing Miq's "Manthra's" and Lalafells as Tarus.....
Anyone else?
And I know I've been called a "galka" more than once :P.

I only whisper "Galka" to myself to remind me of the better days when they had tails.

I just call them by their xi names half the time out of habit. Not as any derogatory term. You play a game for 9 years then start a new one with same visuals renamed, it's a hard habit to break lol.
I fail to see why would they be derogatory. I call Lala's Taru's, Roe's Galkas, Mi'quote Mithras, Hyur Humes, and Elezeen Elvaan all the time with no negative connotation whatsoever. If anything, I often find myself feeling a bit of nostalgia after using the old names.
I use ffxi names all the time :3 elvaans idk what they called in this or galkas x)
I tend to deride the people who use the XI names as relics of a past best left forgotten :D
No. I have jokingly referred to myself as a "knife-ear," though.
I see it as a sign people can't let go of the past. Welcome to Eorzea, what is a galka? You mean Roe?
I don't view it as derogatory. I jokingly refer to myself as a girlka sometimes.
I call Lalafell "potatoes" and Duskwights "smelly cave giraffes". Does that count?
I call them by ffxi names all the time, pointy ears, gorillas, humans, cats and midget, dwarfs, chibis, emergency food or sacrifices, the last 5 alluding to lalas.
Sometimes I'll catch myself calling a Lala a Taru, but no, normally I stick with the XIV names as I'm pretty comfortable with them now. But at first, yeah.
Though I still also find myself typing out Mithra because.. well, its just way easier than trying to remember how to correctly spell M'quote or w/e the hell it is.
I only call one Roe a Galka and when I do it is followed by "Get back to the mines!"
Well Derogatory may be too strong :P. Though If I'm giving someone grief, I tend to lean towards the old race names. .
Just pointing out that a lot can't let the FFXI thing go. It would be similar to calling every summoner Yuna and all Black Mages Vivi. Just because there was a similar trope in a previous entry in the series doesn't mean we can't adopt the new nomenclature. I mean there is a lot of work in the lore by the devs onto the new races, no need to pin them down to their older ancestors.
If not mistaken, I'm certain that these people are just doing it out of habit and for the sake of reminiscing good times. Being unable to let go of the past refers more to wishing things were more like the days of old or having regrets of something that happened in the past.
Looks like I hit a nerve
You sure showed him...
As one of the people who admittedly "can't let go" of XI. I try to make an effort to call them by their 14 names, but I don't think anyone cares if their XI names are used. I honestly can't see how it would be derogatory to call a roe "galka". It just seems silly to me if someone takes offense to that. These are iconic races that a lot of us spent around 10 years with in XI. Yes, XIV has been out for 5 years, but old habits die hard.
Galka = FFXI Living enbodiment of "There Are No Girls on the Internet!" :P
I don't care for the 14 names.
Lala fell down the well? No, they're Taru.... or footballs.
Elfs = knife-ears.
Tail-less Galka.
You get the point.
if i didn't PLAY a miqo'te, i'd probably call them something simpler.
But in truth all the names are pretty short and easy to type in both games so i just call em what they are, since there ARE significant differences. For example, Roes don't have tails and reproduce normally, Lalafell are generally taller and look more like cartoon characters than wind-up toys, and Miqo'te are VERY different from Mithra, being simultaneously less catlike and more catlike in some places, while being less ambiguous when it comes to whether they're completely fur covered or not (due to Mithra tails being the same color as their skin, there was always some ambiguity on that front)
Lalafell is just as easy as Taru-taru (and they're far less annoying)
Miqo'te is a little more complex than Mithra but whatever
Roegadyn can be shortened easily, and Galka is simple.
The only ones that bug me are the other two: Hume/Hyur and Elezen/Elvaan.
THEY'RE HUMANS AND ELVES! There's nothing that really differentiates them from elves and humans from other lore, yet they insist on giving them different names...I guess it's because, originally, they didn't want to "dehumanize" the other races so gave the human analogs a fantastical name, but the whole elf thing is just silly...
