What would you think if SE include a Duel Function 1vs1 and how should it work in FF14?!
I'd like it.
And it should work as such, I challenge someone to a duel, they accept, and get immediately blown into oblivion.
People always complain about this and that about class balance whenever the idea is brought up. Often times it involves BLM and how cast interrupts work in PvP. I can see the concerns for that, but...
Does every feature have to be so perfectly balanced? I'd rather this feature exist for fun and be terribly imbalanced than to have it not exist at all. Just don't tie anything to it - no achievements, ratings, points, or whatever else.
I wanted it, want it, and will always want it.
I loved 1v1 in DC Universe Online. However, the combat in FF14 is WAYYYYYY slower and some jobs will destroy others fast 1v1. I don't think it has a place here simply because of combat speed.
Yes, please.
As far as balance... true fairness would only come from fighting someone of the same job, regardless of future tweaks. The rest would be just to test things and learn how to deal with or survive longer against certain jobs.
Just don't keep any sort of record of win/loss or standings and people may be less inclined to take it too seriously.
People asking SE for dueling capabilities is a pretty common topic in this forum. I'd like to see dueling in this game in the future and I personally don't care about balancing for duels. Some classes act as counter-classes for other classes so you get the whole rock beats paper beats scissors loop all over again. There's similar balancing "issues" in other MMO's as well such as WoW, and I don't think balancing classes for duels is a requirement because its purely recreational.
Meh, if 1V1 were to exist, I say they get rid of the Job switching in combat restrictions and allow us to change in mid battle :U
Class imbalance? TO HELL WITH IT!! Just keep switching like a pokemon!
I would like it just so we get to PvP constantly. Having to wait for matches in FL or WD is a bore.
Also a source of constant marks or EXP even if only a little bit would be nice. More options to get either is always welcome~
You clearly don't play BLM, then. It's basically an automatic loss. BLM only functions as a support to other people. It's like being in a real life battle and sending an archer to fight some cavalry point blank. It doesn't work out. Also, how casters work in FFXIV PvP is the stupidest thing I've ever seen. You're essentially useless unless you can get the rest of your team to constantly attack whoever is attacking you in particular. Good luck with that.
+1. I kinda just want to 1v1 for fun. I don't care about ranking/balance/rewards, just let me challenge someone for a 1v1 for shits and giggles. Like for example, it'll be fun to challenge FC members for who has to clean the stables the coming week, or who gets to open chests, etc.
Black mages are complaining? Trying too hard. They can literally sprint and scathe all day. Sleep, fully buff, fire 3, equimity and go to town with fire. Chances are they will die faster than the blm.
I've clearly never played BLM because...I said that most people bring up attack-interrupts as a balancing concern for 1v1 dueling? You realize I never agreed with nor disagreed with this concept, right? And that all I did was mention that it's often brought up as a concern in topics like this?
The very point of my previous post was that this imbalance in 1v1 for dueling shouldn't even begin to factor into the decision of whether or not duels are a good feature for the game. If it's an "automatic loss", then you don't have to 1v1 as a BLM against a Melee in a duel, should the feature exist. Dueling would be all about enjoyment and practice...and roleplay, I suppose.
Black mage or smn have no chance to win versus a good drg . Fortunately , Few drg are good in pvp ! x)
Otherwise , it will be cool to have duel system on this game . This option exist on all mmorpg's , why not here ...?

Not sure if it's been suggested, because I'm to lazy to read the whole post . I think 1v1 class specific duals would work. Tank vs tank .... Healer vs healers, melee vs melee... It's the only fair way of doing it. I main as a ninja and find fighting a healer or ranged more tedious then fun. Id be all about fighting a dragoon and monk !
You can try it if you'd like. Just get 6 other people in Wolves' Den and duel away.
BLM will probably be dead against any of the melee. Somehow these theories are also assuming that the person the BLM is going against is doing literally nothing.
Do you play in Wolves Den?
A meele who knows what they are doing should be able to kill a caster before fetter ward falls off. It should be no-contest. If it's a wolves den 1v1, I think the caster needs to pole-dance and wait for fetterward to fall off, then CC and heal up before re-engaging to have a chance.
Look at my videos , you will have many exemple of 1v1 :
1/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2utxitNa3s ( Drg Vol II )
2/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKEW3omeRPc ( Drg Vol I )
I really think blm and smn have no chance to win versus a good drg... For the , the lone job's can maybe defeat a good drg are Warrior's and Paladin's .

Game needs it.
If it were segregated (requests can only be made on certain arena grounds, etc.) & there were provisions in place to prevent request-spam abuse ("block duel request" checkbox), it'd be great.
Have it to where you can duel-request in the Wolve's Den territory or beside the Coliseum & it'll hop you into your own personal duel there if they don't want it out in the open world.
If open-world at all, relegate it to some tiny arena circles spread about Eorzea (requests can only be made on the soil), so for lore-arguers, it would be a friendly sparring match.
Why do topics about Duels always fall into debates about balance... Who cares about balance with Duels?
If it was something in the Wolves' Den you queue into, with rewards to boot, then I'd have an issue there. Just make it so it's same verses same then, that way it is purely about your individual skill as, say, a Dragoon, verses another. Short duration with a time out being a draw.
If it was open world (like it should be), then there is no issue. Provided measures are taken to not make it too intrusive on PvE players (slapping sending and accepting Duels behind a PvP Rank requirement should deal with griefers). We can balance it ourselves that way. That lets us do a whole heap of good things; Something to do while waiting on queues. Practicing without it affecting the real match. Teaching others, either by showing them a Duel or Sparing with them. And yes, challenging the odd person seriously.
SMN is awesome in 1 vs 1 with all cd's and pet and det/crictal gears
we talking about 1vs1 deul and your VIDEOS showing us how to attack ppl when they mounting then ( I really think blm and smn have no chance to win versus a good drg )
and i dont want to talk about 1vs1 duel in PVE game
Which is why games should be designed with PvP in mind first and everything else second (and even further back when it comes to neon coloured ponies as mounts).
It's easy rnough to ramp up the HP of an NPC to adjust to a combo X or give him a new ability or some such - that isn't quite possible with established players.
I have to agree this needs more PvP though.
I want to see hexes section off part of an arena in an 8v8 match, which allow periods of 1v1, 2v2, and 3v3. Similar to the 3 hexes during the last boss of WoD.
game dev please try to reconsider this
That's fine, because FFXIV is not a "PVE game". Yes, it's a PvE-centric game, but it also does have PvP content. You can believe it is what you wish, but the truth is evident in the content.
Besides, if you don't want to talk about 1v1 PvP for a "PVE game", then why are you even in this thread, talking about 1v1 PvP for what you consider a "PVE game"? <.<
At a glance, I have to agree. However, as a game designer in training, I am forced to admit that it's likely not so simple. It's not as though PvE is comprised entirely of health pools and damage. That's only as true for PvE as it is for PvP. Just like PvP, PvE has many unique mechanics that make it tick. A game designed from the ground up for PvP is very likely to have less compelling PvE than one designed for PvE and adapted to PvP. And, to be frank, PvE is the bigger bread-winner in MMORPGs.
Ultimately, what the game was designed for is a moot point. Either way, there's little reason the end result can't be satisfactory for both PvE and PvP. Most MMORPGs just seem to avoid trying too hard to come up with solid mechanics to balance things. FFXIV's "casters are interrupted when hit" mechanic is an example of extremely lazy "balance mechanics", but the problem is that the MMORPG standard solution of interrupt abilities for every character isn't a great solution, either.
It's just a sticky situation. There is no obvious miracle answer which would give the best of both worlds.
I only spoke the truth.
I. Will ALWAYS. Want. Duels.
And there's no good reason not to have them.
1vs1 is the missing piece for pvp
one of the main reasons why pvp is not working with the current pvp system is the lack of the fundamental aspect, which is 1 vs1.i am not a game developer but as a gamer, i see that as the main cause. pvp in ints current state is nothing but a mess because of the failure to give the demands of pvp players.
its time to for you to voice out thos thread to the director. Please hear the pros and cons of this feature and i guarantee you a blast for this game
1 vs. 1 wouldnt give the game a blast and it wouldnt work at all. They would have to nerf every class to hell and beyond to make it to work. Just imagine a fight between two Whitemages. They would have to force them to not use heals and spamming Stone 2 on each other doesnt sound very exciting.
Pros:
+ No longer need 8 people for one person to demolish a smack talker
Cons:
- 1 extra game mode, splitting queues up even more than they are already
- game isnt balanced around 1v1 unless its a mirror match up
- healer mirror matchups are incredibly boring
- non mirror match ups vs a healer are incredibly boring and a free win for the healer if he has a brain
- will most likely introduce the "1v1 me bro" egotistical players who arn't skilled in team matches, generally bringing with them a very toxic and vocal way of thinking
I'm curious, how would this work exactly? Why would people split up in an 8v8 in order to have 1v1s/etc.? Currently any split up mechanic in PvP is due to PvE elements or objectives, but there is nothing which forces a certain amount to face each other. How would you ensure 1v1 or 2v2, and not say 2v1 or 1v3?
Spamming Stone 2? Holy, Fluid Aura, Aero and Aero 2, not to mention those new skills in 3.0, none of those would come into play? Would certainly be more interesting if Clerics Stance was still a thing, but healing would still factor into 1v1s as well.
I'll admit, matches between certain Jobs could end up going on indefinitely, but personal skill is still a major factor in PvP. Just because two Scholars could have at each other forever doesn't mean we should scrap the idea. Easily fixed by having a short duration for Duels anyway.
I would much rather have unbalanced, unrewarding 1v1s to do while waiting on those horrendous queues, than nothing at all. They would allow me to practice new Jobs in PvP better, and in a way which doesn't impact other people (main reason I don't heal in Frontlines, I'd need to learn it and while I'm learning my team has a disadvantage). If I want to 1v1 for a serious challenge, I can just sort it out before hand with whoever I'm against; We can balance the match ourselves.
+Can use it to better practice different Jobs in an environment where your learning doesn't put your team at a disadvantage.
+Something to do while waiting on queues
+Something to do when queues simply aren't happening at all because of timezones.
If it is open world, like it should be, this wouldn't matter. At all. It would be like doing a Levequest while waiting on a queue; Perfectly possible, except rather than not PvPing while waiting to PvP (which is what I want to do), I can enjoy some PvP (again, what I want to do when I queue for PvP) while waiting to PvP.
I actually imagine open world 1v1s could be beneficial for PvP queues because of that. Currently if I want to PvP I have to wait a fair amount of time, during that time I cannot PvP against anything except a lifeless dummy in Wolves' Den Pier. Throw in 1v1s though? Now I can PvP almost anywhere and almost instantly. Now that queue is a little less tedious, because I can get a taste of PvPing while waiting. Hopefully that would mean more people would suffer the queue time, meaning lower queue times. Putting PvPs out in the open with 1v1s also makes it more apparent, reminds people that this game has PvP. Combine that with the whole practice point and it could even bring more people into PvP, again helping queue times.
I'll balance it myself, thank you very much. Only reason I'd want to do an unbalanced match (other than practice or general interest in seeing what I can do) is if I get rewards out of it, since that makes the rewards easier to obtain, remove the rewards and there is no problem.
I'd say what is boring is subjective. Another thing which wouldn't matter if it was open world 1v1s, if you're bored by healer mirror match-ups, don't do them. Problem solved.
So what? I can just blacklist such people. Or crush them at 1v1, because the kind of people to mouth off generally aren't the type to be any good in general.
Only ever seen this as an issue for pure PvE players, but there have already been numerous suggestions (not necessarily in this thread) on how to avoid dragging them into 1v1s.
I agree with this Dude!
But here are some of the stuff that should be set as rules for 1v1 Match in my opinion.
- No LB bar
- 2 players challenging each other should dual as the SAME job or they can't reg for dual
- Each Dual/Match has a timer for like 10 mins.
- When one of them dies he respawn and enter arena again while the alive player has like 5 secs of skills locked till the respawned guy enter so both can refight equally without any tricks involved
- When the timer end. Winner is the guy with most kills
- No NODES!
- Sparkle some SALT in there too :D
would be perfect <3
