Dragon Limitbreak, Heavensward Dragoon Heavy Expansion & More Questions

They also finally got what i hope to be an appropriate Limit now, which thank god. Now we're gonna see Dragoons coming out of the wood-works for everything. WoD will be them fighting over who gets to burn it (whatever I'm not a DRG so I don't care jut pointing it out)

So will each expansion focus on a Job Class? Yes yes, main scenario determines the plot line, but it would be kind of cool if they went through all the Jobs with each expansion.

BUT, does this mean the limit breaks will be redesigned for ALL the classes in the future? Summoner really needs their own, maybe the pets rain from the sky doing AoE damage or something or let them choose which full size figure to summon? Eh, just throwing it out there, but I do feel the other classes need their own independent LB that makes them unique (bard's needs to be reworked like crazy, so useless)

Don't worry everyone is gonna be DRK anyways.

I think its more then DRG that got new LB animation, think thats the only one they have showed so far. BRD is getting a DMG LB and not the healing LB anymore come 3.0

Not me I'm sticking with smn all the way. I'll level all the jobs yah but smn is always and forever my main.

I'm going to be very disappointed if DRG is the only one with a new LB.

The ones who don't really are PLD/WHM/BLM.
I don't like the idea of summoners summonin' a staff on a LB.

So Last Bastion for tanks will be specific to paladin or warrior.

How will the bard's ability change?
Y: It will be changed to a DPS-type limit break. At level 3, perhaps it will look like a giant laser (laughs).

DRG is the main focus because of the negative stigma it's been given by the community. it became really noticeable once NIN came into the fray and offered their combos which required no positional locations to execute aside from Sneak Attack and Trick attack. However it was because of this that DRG turned into even more of an lolDRG of the XI era. What made things even worse for DRGs was they had lower magical defense compared to other jobs so when it came to coil their defenses couldn't' handle the magical dmg being dealt to them and they were shunned from coil because of their naturally lower magical defense.

They patched away both issues but it still left a negative taste towards DRGs and all this focus on DRG in 3.0 is to hype them back up to the Kain levels of interest rather than being seen as a joke job that isn't worth the time compared to other DD roles.

It's a main focus in Ishgard Lore. It has nothing to do with any of the stigma behind the job itself. The expansion is about the Dragonsong War, dragoons will play a big part in killing dragons.

Yeah, pretty sure we're going to see a lot of Ishgardian Dragoon NPCs helping us out in the main storyline. Doesn't seem likely we'll see our usual helpers. lol.

Unless you can show non-anecdotal proof. The real reason Dragoons are prevalent is because the job hails from Ishgard as far back as 1.0. And Dragoon has always been one of the top DPS contenders prior to their tweaks. Monk also suffered from placement stigma. And DRG in the XI era was lol not because of their dmg output, because even there they were one of the top dps, the stigma came from their problem with acc, something that DRG doesn't really have to worry about (no one really does to the extents of XI did). Personally I don't see the "lolDRG" stigma in XIV at all, in fact its quite the opposite, they hit really hard and BiS DRGs can dish out some really serious numbers. This game is so balanced though no job can really take the top spot and if they do its like saying twin A is older than twin B by 15 seconds.

Ever since DRG got buffed a little - they do pretty well! Sure there are some baddies out there but I agree with you there! Once you got your BiS for drg, they do insane numbers! I like drg because when ur buffs are up and u do that full trust - those numbers are just amazing - usually 2500+! :P

If BLM, WTM and SCH get showcased it will be if we get into the War of the Magi.

To be honest I wouldn't be surprised if both Dark Knight features pretty significantly since corruption within Ishgard will almost certainly be a major plot point. Paladin may make an appearance too since Ul'dah will come back into the story at some point.

I though lolDRG came about because of numerous DRG deaths? I never played XI so I wouldn't know...

That said Ishgard has alot to do with Dragons and Dragoons, so of course Dragoons will getting the special treatment promotion wise. Same thing with Monks if/when we go to Ala Mhigo.

My main and first job is a Dragoon and will always be a Dragoon. Finally now they're getting some good credit lol

All the jobs are getting unique LB animations for LB3- except I believe WHM, MNK, PLD and BLM I believe are retaining the current LB's.

As for each expansion being "heavy on one job", I doubt it- dragoons just happen to very much suit the theme of this expansion due to the war between Ishgard and Dravania.

After checking out the DRG artifact gear in the benchmark I can't help feeling they went a BIT overboard.... get rid of those ludicrous "side wings" and the set would actually be quite stunning. The atrocious state of it as is absolutely put me off taking DRG to 60 anytime soon.

Geography made dragoon such a focus for this expansion. We are going to Ishgard which has long been established as home of dragoons and pointy sticks in the lore. You can probably expect DRGs to be all over the main scenario.

From what I heard about loldrg in XI, half the job's dps was meant to come from it's pet wyvern like the smn class we have here, except that their pet didn't scale with level, leaving them in the dust. Maybe that was fixed later, idk, I've never played XI.

But yeah, this is about Ishgard vs Dravania, so Dragoons will naturally play a large part in that.

The trailers are focusing on the dragoon, not the expansion itself. The only focus on dragoons in Heavensward will be story-related; they are not getting any special treatment or extra perks compared to the other jobs. All jobs are getting new job-specific LBs in Heavensward, they just showed the dragoon one off first.

The LOLDRG in FFXI times was because melee were useful for only one thing against HNM's and that was skillchaining, it was also very much frowned upon to melee the bosses so most people would /sam and meditate, skillchain, all the blm's would MB and that would be it. Meleeing the bosses fed them TP causing them to spam skills, DRG's wyvern pet did just that and as such made them useless. Furthermore they also had their multi hit weapon skills massively nerfed as they were incredibly overpowered when first introduced.

A handful of jobs were left out for these or other reasons and as such retained the "lol" factor. In the case of melee dps (RNG was outright the best DPS around so considered anyway), considering tanks, healers, support and black mages are very important.

Pre Abyssea.

MNK - Boost/Chi blast
THF - Treasure hunter
DRK - Stun
SAM - Meditate (can combine with /thf for guaranteed hit on skillchain vs non spike flail bosses)
BLU - can solo skillchain


That leaves

WAR - technically a tank of some sorts but inferior to PLD or NIN so subjob status only, perhaps a backup tank but I don't know why you would want someone to come stand around on WAR/NIN instead of NIN/WAR or PLD/WAR.
BST - Solo job (pet feeds enemy tp, do not use)
PUP - Another pet class........
LOLDRG - no use other than skillchain (pet feeds enemy tp, do not use) go level sam!


In response to why DRG features a lot in the new expansion... ITS A DRAGOON and the expansion is about DRAGONS!!! That's pretty obvious.........

Like others have said, dragoons are the focus of the trailer because they originated from Ishgard, and are experts at fighting dragons - which seem to be our primary enemy in 3.0. I'm guessing we'll see a lot of them in the main scenario.

If you have any doubts about this then take into consideration that the opening movie for Heavensward had been in development for over a year, so since pretty close to the launch of 2.0 (from what I remember from the live letter). It was in no way designed to repair a largely NA community reputation of the job, since that reputation had hardly had time to grow before the cutscene was drafted.

I do think that the more recent buffs to drg were a response to community negging on the job, though, and I think that Yoshida has such a serious reaction to their reputation because Dragoons are essentially the face of 3.0.
