Does anyone think they will add white ravens or Dalmund Horn to the cash shop?
I highly doubt we'll see all 3 of those items on the cash shop.
i admittedly impulse bought it
no regrets i look fabulous now
Oh wow I spoke too soon, Moonlet was just released, what a shock!
Kind of a bummer already having stuff they add to the cash shop.
I wish they'd put the eternal bond items in there so I don't have to marry someone to get them.
well crap, there goes my unique item...so much for one-time event
Just like the Moonlet was a reward for a 1.0 only event. I feel like now that they've added this, everything else from 1.0 is on the table and it's a bit irritating.
It's bad enough they added it to the cash shop, but it has the same name too? They could of at least given it a different name.
Bet there's gonna be people coming in to post gloating about being able to get this after being rebuked for asking this to be made available. Probably the very same people hating on others asking for the ff13 hairstyles and glamour items to be made available too. Hypocrites will be hypocrites I guess.
I don't know about gloating, but I'm glad they're putting these things in so non-legacy people can get them. I wish they'd remove the Lightning hair style from the game entirely, but given the choice between having people able to use it and some not, I'd just rather they put it in for everyone.
The only thing from 1.0 that I think should stay exclusive is the legacy tattoo. Everything else should be fair game. Why shouldn't new players get to have different glamour options? Do you (generic you, not specific) need that moon earring to feel special?
I'd really love Dalamud horn but I totally understand why it would/should stay a 1.0 player exclusive item.
Also I'm kinda attached to my Bunny Ears now >.<
Meh. I chimed in with thoughtful input on the cash shop at the last two lines in the sand.
When it was announced, I pointed out that I support it (to a point) and think some lost opportunities shouldn't be permanent, but also that the cash-only in-game items violated the game's spirit, in a way, given that it's subscription-based. When Eternal Bond came around, I thought it was lame that their marketing approach was to foster an atmosphere where every time you see a great design in a preview, you have to wonder if it's cash-only before getting excited. Today? I'm out of critiques, really. Line #3) You can now be sure that if it's not a direct and mechanical advantage, it's probably not too sacred for the cash shop.
Moonlet was the item that introduced the limited-time Seventh Umbral Era storyline, but it technically was before SE started officially saying, "Please pay for this broken game so we can afford to fix it. There will be a limited-time story with one-time items!" It was during the extended free trial and was presented as an event. Whether or not this is acceptable is an individual opinion (and I assume one that will vary quite widely). I'm more apathetically curious ... is there a line in the sand at the "exclusive, one-time" items after billing commenced? Is there one at the Legacy line? Is the one at the White Ravens, which required direct and mechanical skill to obtain within said period?
Square Enix is a business. We've known for some time now how FFXIV will be run now that it's a net earner.
Hoping otherwise not only breeds more internal negativity than it's worth in the end, but it's also apparently futile. C'est la vie. I'm not petty enough to think that people should be denied some silly glamour items; I just hope that I'm not naive in hoping that some of the items that had the "thanks for trusting and supporting us through this dark age" air about them remain exclusive for no other reason than that's what we were led to believe about them. We'll burn that bridge when we come to it.
What? ... I'm not allowed to make a post without lore in it? Okay, I guess.
The Moonlet was crafted by the Goldsmith's Guild of Ul'dah in the 1,572nd year of the Sixth Astral Era at the behest of the Adventurers' Guild to celebrate the Keeper of the Twin Moons and thank adventurers for vanquishing the Bombards. It also served as a reward for the event that let us know something was amiss with Dalamud. Well, one of the moons is gone and the Bombards didn't come back this year, but that doesn't mean this lovely earring can't be yours for just three real-life earth dollars!
Not too surprising. I imagine the non-seasonal 1.0 items will stay 1.0 exclusive, but as has been happening with all seasonal items, the next time the event comes around they get put on the cash shop. Since this was a seasonal, it went up.
Legacy still have plenty of exclusives that almost certainly will never be cash shop stuff since they were never seasonal rewards.
I don't mind, so long as it makes them money. Earrings are the least interesting glamour slot anyways :/
Please don't add the horn and white ravens even I don't have the earrings and I don't want them on the cash shop the moonlet earring fine but not the stuff that was specific to Meteor story please.
Link to the event info
It is an event to tell the player the moon Dalamud is acting strange. It does not tie to any season
To break up the massive amounts of "weh why was this added" and/or "please add more of the 1.0 stuff" (personally see both sides of the argument, but I'm a vanity whore so I'm still leaning on the "add 1.0 items pls").
Does anyone happen to have a picture of the Moonlet on a miqo'te? Male or female is fine, really, their ears work the same. I just want to see how big it is exactly for them. Because I keep having the mental image of it being super heavy and pulling down on their ears. >_>
You're not. :p It's the path you've chosen for yourself, after all. Good read, as always.
The White Ravens are i90, and the Dalamud Horn is i55. I don't think they'll ever put level 50+ gear in the cash-shop, but we'll see where we are in 6.0 when sets of Augmented High Allagan go on sale.
Yeah, the Moonlet Earring was part of an event. Sad I missed it but meh, that's what I get for being on the fence till Legacy. So far they've put every other event item on their cash shop, why would the Moonlet Earring be any different? I mean, look at the cash shop! It's got the old swimsuits which were also introduced early in 1.0 (even if they were re-released during the first Summerbreeze of 2.0). White Ravens and the Dalamud Horn, though, are NOT event items. They're achievement items awarded for completing the original Nael Deus Darnus fight and the 1.0 storyline respectively.
Idk if it's just me being on my phone but I'm not seeing the swimsuits, the only things new seem to be the moonlet and some 10-dye packages of the cash shop dyes for $7.50 or so...
All those people who were against this must be real mad right now.
Oh it's an event item! They're saying now.. But ask about the calamity salvager housing lightning event stuff and you'll get barked at. Too funny.
I kinda hope they add the horns. I wasn't able to play 1.0 because it was never released on console and the pc I had wasn't good enough to run it. I always joke and say my Roe is a unicorn and having a horn would make me even more of a unicorn haha.
I'd want a horn, got so close to beating it so many times but no cigar. Kinda sucks I just ran out of time as it was so difficult to get parties back then. I also understand the people who want to preserve the prestige tho.
Unlike Moonlet, Dalamud Horn* and White Ravens were specifically and in no uncertain language declared to be exclusive to 1.0. Moonlet was not mentioned as part of those announcements so it's "fair game" to be reintroduced in ARR.
*The post "Discontinued Content in FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn (07/27/2012)" is no longer available on the internet from official sources. However, it can still be accessed through my 1.0 Lodestone archive in the "Lodestone Announcements and Game Updates" folder.
I wouldn't mind seeing similar items to Dalmund horn and White Raven either in game or in shop, but I agree those 1.0 players deserve something one of a kind. I myself am not a 1.0 player, but I feel like those that were earned their fanciness.
Saw the earring and said to myself :"haha, christmas balls for the ears! XD" /moogle shop closed and didnt bought anything
This of the three major things I see complained about (the other two being White Ravens and the Dalamud Horn) is the only one I'm actually okay with seeing made available again.
Though I wouldn't mind if it was a retainer venture rather than cash shop. :\
I think the V1.0 stuff has always been fair game, since there's absolutely no way to go back and play any of it. It would be different if they put some of V1.0 back in just to replay the cut scenes via some kind of flashback quest chain but I think people would rather SE focus on new content than trying to salvage old content.
See it's comments like these that wind me up...
I have the tattoo but I could careless if it's on the shop. This wall that 1.0 legacy players are so hell bend on keeping up is just dumb at this point. Just let it go and move on.
I think the moonlet was just a seasonal event item ... so just like all other seasonal event items its become available again.
The dalamud horn, raven earrings and survivor tattoo are not seasonal event items and as such should not appear on the store, unlike the moonlet they are 1.0 story based items and as such should not be available in 2.0 and beyond.
This is my understanding.
they could have a different design for 2.0 players >..> i would love a tattoo on my back to show i was here since the early beta of 2.0
while i agree with the white ravens (which was for beating neal van darns (hard)) i do not know about the Dalamud horn since it was a contest prize for 1.0 it seems it would be fair game if they put the bluebird earnings airman choker ect (basically other contest prizes), so i can understand why1.0 players wish to keep there hands on them, but most 1.0 players i know who have one of them or both only keep them on there retainer and to me it dose seem to be a waste to hide that item away and never use it or show that you earned it. and if people who have them never show them or just hide them away why not give them to people who will love to glamour them and show them to the world.
While I can't speak for others, I've used my Ravens in most of my gear set glamours since glamours were introduced :3 That aside, though, making the Dalamud Horn available seems a bit cheap since it was a one-time only achievement reward for people who stuck it out through the lengthy re-development cycle and completed the Sixth Astral Era exclusive events. It was supposed to be a token of you being there, which actually isn't the same as the Legacy tattoo since it was possible to be Legacy but not have the Dalamud Horn, just as it was possible to have the Dalamud Horn but not be Legacy. And Ravens especially should never go to cash shop- doing so delegitimizes the effort everyone who earned them put into acquiring them, and basically tells them that to Square Enix cash is more important than their feelings of accomplishment.
It's a bit of a slippery slope to say that it would make people think "Oh, well if they're just going to give this one thing, they'll give away everything I worked hard to earn, so why even bother?" but it would definitely come across as turning their backs on the people who supported the game when it was dying and in desperate need of life support just to last long enough for the remake. You could argue that they'd benefit financially, but it would be awful PR and really undermine their efforts to make the community feel like they care.
Let some rare things stay rare. Not everyone is entitled to all the same shinys all the time, especially if they did nothing to earn them.
This was never an argument I could prescribe to. No one can take away your sense of accomplishment except for you. Even if SE were to add these items to the shop right now, you and the people that were with you still know that you earned them the hard way and at least in my opinion that's all that should matter.
I've played my fair share of games where I earned rare or "exclusive" items the hard way only for them to be made easier to obtain after the fact and I've never once cared. So what if someone else didn't "earn" it the same way I did? I know what kind of effort it took for me to obtain those items, or titles, or mounts. I know that no matter what happens I'll still have the personal knowledge that I was there with my friends putting in the work to earn those items when the content was difficult. No one else can take away my experiences and memories. Bob may be able to buy the item but he'll never be able to buy the experience. His item might look the same, but it'll never hold the same weight.
But then maybe I'm one of those people who cares more about the experiences leading up to the rewards more than the rewards themselves.
