Who else absolutely hates...
Mouseclick Function: cannot click through player-names thereby making you select yourself instead of your enemy?
FFXIV targeting circle:
Left to Right
What it suppose to be:
Nearest to Furthest
what's the opposite word for nearest? Far, Further, Furthest?
Targeting is my only gripe on functionality. While other things need some fine tuning, targeting is by far the worst.
What is it about FFXI's targeting system that seemed light years ahead of this one? I never had problems on FFXI, but I can't think out why it was so much better.
I use a controller, so I'm afraid I'm not familiar with this issue.
because of this issue I change into using controller...
I assigned the Q button to "target nearest NPC" and never use Tab button because of this issue
I just click on whatever I want to select : /
Crystal,That's what i do.
I made a target macro, alt+1 to target things. Works well for keyboard only users, about the same claiming as XI with that.
They just need a /assist <player> macro and I would be happy.
I refuse to use macros.
As far as I recall targeting in XI is the same as XIV, it targets left to right... regardless of distance however far.
The pointer in XI is much more clear which object you are targeting in XI though, better than both of the 2 display options XIV gives you. The circle is difficult to figure out exactly which target you are on, and the above arrow sits sooo high above your target its either off screen or too high above the target its on to usually tell exactly whom you have targeted.
As in XI there are generally 2 options to target better... pre-click someone to the left of where you assume the target you want will be (so that left->right tabbing is quicker) or always position yourself to F8 will get whom you want.
I greatly prefer left-to-right targeting. Maybe it's because I played FFXI for years with just a keyboard, but it makes just as much sense to go that way as closest-to-furthest, but with the added benefit of me being able to adjust my starting point just by rotating the camera a little.
I place myself directly to the left of what I want to target, and then it's the first I get to, even if it's three or four mobs away. It takes a split-second to set up, and there is nothing equivalently quick when targeting is done by distance.
They are unwieldy.
Why should I have to materialise knowledge of every type of macro command from nowhere and then get a degree in programming just to swap out my gear/customise a target mode etc?
It's unwieldy, is all im trying to say, and I simply don't care for macros at all and want nothing to do with them.
I got my PhD in Macro Biology, maybe I can help you out. Start with something easy, like:
/equip Head "Name of your hat"
Congratulations! You equipped a hat!
On a serious note, I think macros would be MUCH more helpful if everything in the UI didn't take so long to do. Setting up one macro to equip my Gladiator gear takes a good 15 seconds...then I have 3 macros to equip each different line of abilities. It takes me a good minute to fully get prepared for my main job, and then I can't use any of the abilities, because of the stupid timer reset EVERY SINGLE TIME you set a skill that wasn't active before.
this is big issue that needs to be addressed, also we need the option to remove our own name to make mouse targeting better.
Because it's really not that hard at all?
Here, this should make it easy for you:

You don't need a degree in programming to do that.
Well I certainly need a great deal more patience than I was born with and even more resourcefulness.
I have honestly stopped playing the game for the most part because of this issue. The worst part i find is trying to engage. You have to double click and it doesnt work half the time. I use a left handed mouse so engaging the mob is a nightmare for me.
I can say for certain, as a controller user, that this issue does not go away when you use a controller. The targeting algorithm is still the same and it consistently chooses targets that are further way based on some priority other than distance. It has gotten so that when in raids or fighting more than two enemies, I have to use the mouse to target (and thats not much better, as many have said). This is, quite honestly, the feature/fix that is on the top of my want list.
I also hate macros on the principle that I should not have to input computer code in order to make a game run smoother. That is the job of the game programers and developers.
If I can play 7+ jobs/classes on one character, then I should have 7+ equipment set screens to easily toggle through.
As for targeting, if there is a macro that works great then that macro should be hard-coded into the game by the developers...not by me.
It's the principle of lazy programming that bothers me. "Allow the players to choose their playstyle" often seems like an excuse rather than a feature.
nearest to farthest did not take priority of left to right. As far as I can tell that is the exact same. Also the XI click targeting is just as bad really, in fact I believe the circle target is the default in XI.
By the way has anyone on keyboard been playing with the directional arrow targeting? I was playing around with it the other day and it worked very well... but I am still locked into tab/nearest npc styles.
They aren't computer codes, they are simple chat commandos.
/action "Cure III" <p1>
Cast Cure III on Partymember 1
You can use them with the macro slots or write it in the chat
But for only targeting, you don't need a macro.
Just look a little in the keyboard configuration menu. There are some useful target options waiting for a key bind
What about the damn double letter when using chat-specific keyboard..
I hate the new functionality of 'change view'. Where it used to switch between target centered and player centered, it's now 3rd person and 1st person.
Seriously, who plays an MMO 1st person view?
i find it all quite easy to target... i use the up and down arrows to target party members ez pz. and i just use F8 to target nearest npc and left and right arrows to scroll through enemies
And anyway, why should good players be segregated from bad players, not by skill, but by which macros they use?
Bad game design, that.
Which double letter? And why do you using chat-specific keyboard? I have it off.
Which new functionality of 'change view'? The functionality is the same as in the beta and FF XI. Maybe you need to try press c (target lock) instead of v (change view)
