I mean... We're almost two months away from a release and we have yet to receive any kind of specific information concerning the expansion.
What are the actual abilities of these new jobs?
What are the new abilities for current jobs?
Are we getting a dungeon akin to Crystal Tower again?
What exactly are the new rules for the new version of Frontlines?
Why did the class system get dropped for the new jobs? Will it be dropped completely in the months coming?
What are the new crafting abilities and what kind of implications does "specializing" have?
What are the new LB3s for each of the jobs?
What are their current plans for housing as far plots and wards go? Do they plan to add more to meet the high demand?
What exactly are "high level levequests" - what makes them different from a normal levequest?
What have they learned from 2.0 - 2.55 about FATE design and how is it improved in 3.0 from the total zerg fest that it once was?
What other primals, if any, are to be introduced with the expansion?
Will we be able to join one of the four great houses of Ishgard?
What exactly are Grand Companies for, aside from Frontline teams? Will they be expanded upon in 3.0 and how?
I can't be the only one asking these questions, and it's not like they have to tell me everything all at once, but maybe a heavier stream of information might help. I'm incredibly excited for the expansion, I just wish I could back up my claims as to why.
Most of my conversations go like this;
Me - "Hey guyz, did you hear that FFXIV is getting an expansion?! I'm super excited!"
Friend - "Oh really? What all are they adding?"
Me - "New jobs! Flying mounts! And they're even increasing the level cap!"
Friend - "Oh cool! What do the new jobs do?"
Me - "I don't actually know, one tanks, one does damage, and the other heals."
Friend - "Oh, that's cool. What about the flying mounts? What kind of mounts are they adding and what level can I ride one?"
Me - "Uhhhh... There's a Griffin if you buy the collector's edition, and I saw a dragon. And I don't know what level you can ride one or what you have to do actually..."
Friend - "Ah, okay, well what about the new level cap? What cool abilities is everyone getting."
Me - "... No idea..."
See? There's a lot of topics that I want to talk about and tell people about, but I have nothing to keep the conversation going. It's like gnawing on a chicken bone. Sure, you can kind of taste the chicken, and it feels like you're eating something; but you're not, because there is no real meat to chew on. GIVE ME SOMETHING TO CHEW ON DARN IT!
On the plus side, we'll all be extremely surprised when it comes out at this rate XD
...dude, you said it yourself. There is 2 months remaining. MORE THAN ENOUGH time to spill out much of this. Besides...
"What other primals, if any, are to be introduced with the expansion?"
I supposed you hadn't seen Bismark...? Or Ravana? There was another, outside of Alexander, but I don't remember the name.
Also
#TeamXaela
Sorry, I should have been more specific. I know about Bismark and Ravana, but outside of those two, we have heard nothing, nor how they will function in the game. We were told a name, and given a beast tribe with a couple little photos and that's really about it.
Reading the Au Ra clan lores, it hints that one clan can only have white scales and the other black scales. Astrologian is a class that came from the homelands of the Scions, so we might see more info about their land.
They dont really have to disclose any more information before release.
Well, the game was delayed, and was supposed to be released fairly soon. so there should already have been lots of info.
if they show new skills, it will be in job trailers, like they did with Nin. But i think they will want to be a bit more secretive this time, cause ppl figured out how to play nin, before it was even released, by analyzing trailers and data-mining.
as for new skills for current jobs, i guess we'll see when the game launches, or ppl data mine.
High lv leve quests, probably just means lv 51-60.
but yah, they should start creating some real hype, soon....or there's nothing more to hype :)
No one seems to like the element of surprise anymore. I must be living in the stone age or something.
What a nice site.
Honestly I have enough informations to be interested in the expansion and I would love some surprise.
They already noted that another Live Letter that will talk about the battle system etc will come in May so... Please look forward to it :D
I don't seem to recall any MMO expansion where they detailed skills. That has always been found out when the expansion released (or at least if they have a closed beta like WoW does.) Don't expect to see much more than what they are showing. Also it was mentioned that during the story quest we will convert our companion Chocobo to a flying Chocobo, so I would say somewhere before or at 60 is when we can start flying. As for the dragon mount, didn't they say it will be similar to the Magitek ... as in we'll get it during the final MSQ of the initial release?
Im not too sure about you but after reading the whole site, I'm way more hyped about the expansion.
Why would I want to know about everything before it comes out? I already know I want the expansion. I wanna learn about all those job skills, quests, items, whatever, by actually....I don't know...playing the game? Crazy I know.
Well, they could do what Blizzard did, and tell you absolutely everything they plan to do. Then, when they don't do about 90% of the things they said they'd do, everyone can have that special feeling of disappointment.
Sometimes it's better to not know.
We're not beggars, we're paying customers. In the age where corporations expect us to follow the PREORDER NOW instruction from just the title of a videogame, it's simply a reasonable /doubt.
Of course nobody wants details of quests or the storyline or fights or things like that, but there's certain concerns when a big announcement can be boiled down to "In expansion, there's gonna be content."
Especially since in addition to new stuff there's always pressing concerns such as housing, or uselessness of SS and elemental materia, and others that go unaddressed for months, the expansion is basically supposed to define how (and if) we're gonna play this game for another 15+ months. It's only natural that people knowledgeable about the game want to know at least some finer details to look ahead for.
Personally, from the last LL 3.0 just feels like a really large content patch. There's no big qualitative jump that makes me really hype because it's gonna change (improve?) how we play FFXIV. It's just more content and that's it.
No, flying isn't that jump. It's just a marketing gimmick.
The only thing that kinda annoys me is the "Dark Knight Hype".
Its literally showcased 1000x more than the Astro and the Machinist despite seeing the DK in action back in March or even earlier :/
While I can't answer all of your questions, I will answer these ones:
"Are we getting a dungeon akin to Crystal Tower again?"
Yes. The new 24 man raid will be coming in patch 3.1
"What are the new LB3s for each of the jobs?"
Unknown at this point. But the new Dragoon LB3 will be shown in the Heavensward benchmark which will release later this month.
"What are their current plans for housing as far plots and wards go? Do they plan to add more to meet the high demand?"
Housing will be added to Ishgard eventually. It won't be at launch however.
"What other primals, if any, are to be introduced with the expansion?"
They have already shown off Bismark and Ravana, who will both be getting a Normal and Hard Mode encounter. It is unknown if there will be more in the game that haven't been revealed yet.
Man, we got plenty of information. At this point, it's either you buy the expansion or you don't. If you don't want to be left behind, you're gonna buy the expansion anyways. If not, good luck playing the game at that point.
i love the new info but theres one thing its missing
Naming conventions ;A;
So.. um, where on that site is the info on the new jobs and Au Ra? ...Because I'm only seeing stuff about the actual product.

Fixed ;)
OT: The computers at work are not loading up the HW site (for whatever reason), so I'll have to wait til I get home to view. Thank you to those both here & on reddit that are posting infos from the site :)
<.<; There is no lore button.
In fact there is nothing different about the site from when I looked at it yesterday.
This is where the OP link sends me:

thats odd the site gives me this

maybe its not updated for you in your country? (i don't know where your from so i am just guessing)
Gonna be another one joining the Xeala clan. I mean the lighter tones of the Raen are cool and all, but I gotta go with the warring clan >_>;;
Plus... those horns look so much cooler.
I just think the gap between contents are pretty large, recently we just completed the story line and all, so this wasn't a too big of a patch. :/
The last big fun thing was GS which still has people actively TTing and stuff. I personally do want more info and all so we have more to speculate and talk about.
Every good info we get has us busy for a while....at least on the forums. The Au'ra info makes me happy! I like the Raen...<3 I'm surprised they're more enclosed than the Xaela
which I thought they would be...I may even RP as an Au'ra.~ I just dont' like the scales on the other clan sadly but who knows? I'll see soon.
Wish they release benchmark. ; ;
As for Job's...I agree with LovesCake, more information is slapped on DRK than any other. I want my AST/MAC love please...
But thanks SE for the new fun info!
Dark Knight's Lore sounds pretty interesting
http://img.finalfantasyxiv.com/lds/p....png?2caac64v1
Looks like we'll be slicing and dicing some corrupt Popes and Templars when HW hits
I for one actually Love the lore for Dark knight...It's seems more based after their etymology rather than the "I pee darkness" vibe everyone expected XD
From the Live Letter Summary thread:
Q1: Could you please tell us the naming conventions for the Au Ra?
A1: There are two clans: Au Ra Raen and Au Ra Xaela. Au Ra Raen have been closely related to the Domans for long time, so their names are somewhat Japanese-like. The Xaela on the other hand have led a nomadic lifestyle for some time, and they have a unique naming convention.
Sadly, we're still in the dark regarding Xaela naming conventions, as far as I know. Unique could mean anything! :p
it's still not the full naming conventions D: my friend Burgenhiem chose that name for his roe because at first in 1.0 the they were told it was germanic so he made the name and that was before they showed the roegadyn dictionary, D: so i am waiting for a full thread of naming conventions for both tribes D:
Yes, it does. There's this thing called "industry standards."
One of the things you absolutely do NOT want to do when developing a game, and something that's been cropping up lately in regards to some AAA titles is get nailed by your audience for advertising a feature that doesn't appear in game.
FFXIV itself has gotten this regarding housing.
Thus, they will NOT release precise details such as spell list, ability lists, etc. until they are ABSOLUTELY sure they're going to be in game.
Lore? Lore is easy. They can throw lore at us and just did.
Precise details about the expansion will not be forthcoming until the expansion is ready to go. We don't even get preliminary patch notes for big content updates until the weekend before it hits!
Hell we didn't even have the rogue job abilities before then. Why the hell should we expect details 2 months before the expansion launches?
What we know:
All content will be "locked" behind the MSQ up to 2.55
9 new zones, each bigger than the ones we currently have
3 new jobs
1 new race
2 new primals and beast tribes
Flying mounts
No new housing until 3.2 or later.
1 new raid with 2 different modes coming 2 weeks after launch for normal, and another 2 weeks for hard.
DX11 client
Level cap increase
Specializations for crafting
New equipment, including new class-specific gear
20 new TT cards.
New job abilities, with combat classes getting theirs starting at 52
A new system for acquiring crafting gear.
And probably some things I'm forgetting.
Basically, we've receive quite a bit of information, and the SPECIFIC information will come later.
What you're asking for is akin to asking about what you're getting for Christmas as well as the detailed logistics of your family's annual get together in October.
Was kind of hoping Raubahn will be part of the Dark Knights since his uh.. his transformation. Angry and all Guts like. I suppose there is still a chance he'll be part of that posse at some point.
Was nice to look through all the information (pictures) again - would like to see a map of a zone though (maybe like they did in 1.0 to 2.0 with cute little POI labels)... :P
