I have heard mixed feedback in regards to the relic (Zodiac) saga and if it will be continued in 3.0+. I know they plan to introduce a new system (patch 3.1), which Yoshi had mentioned at PAX. The question I have is, what will happen to the old relic (Zodiac) weapons? Are there plans for them to be upgraded in 3.0+? Will they be used for anything in 3.0+?

It sounds to me like it's probably a whole new weapon/ system, however, in at least one interview I read that they're planning for there to be an advantage for players who completed their Zodiac weapon. What that means is anyone's guess. I'm kind of wondering if said 'advantage' will allow a player to jump to a different type of weapon or not. I have been working on my MNK's weapon thus far, but might like to switch to another job. Having put so much time into the current weapon I can't be tempted to switch my main class currently though, lol.

It'd be stupid if people had to do a level 50 quest with a level 50 weapon for 6 or however many stages just to get a level 60 equivalent. -

The advantage may be something like, the first step requires some base weapon, but to get a base weapon you have to grind all these dungeons for low rng drops, but have a zodiac you can use that for the base and skip to the next step.

They already said the initial relic wpn in 3.0 is going to be easy to get though. If you want the best wpn in the game for 2.0 then grind the relic, the only other lvl 135 wpn is the dreadwyrm and it prob takes even more time and effort to get that wpn than it does to get the relic. The last 2 steps of relic are stupid easy anyway, not sure y ppl are still wanting even more from the relic.

If you are concerned whether or not to do/finish the zodiac saga, then I would say just finish it, you get an i135 weapon and it will more than likely be your best weapon until Alexander weapons are revealed (which is 2 weeks after 3.0's launch).
If its about what is happening to them, well we will keep them for the most part, and if we have them there is a CHANCE it will assist us in the new "legendary weapon" quest line. (like let us skip a step or two or something along those lines). -

The only problem is the lockout which is going away on march 31 then you can farm bahamut for as many weapons as you want.Quote:

FFXI had a system where the relic/emp/etc. were upgraded to the level caps, once the level cap was raised. -

I don't know. Unless it offers a non-trivial advantage, I'll probably never touch a long-haul weapon again. The only reason I put up with the relic grind was its ongoing upgrades and usefulness, but if I can expect weapons like this to be completely jettisoned periodically in favor of new grind chains, then they're no longer worth my time/effort/gil. Get the base gimme stage or two of whatever's new, then pick up token weapons after that and call it good. Its kinda funny though, you go to all this trouble making a zeta, imbuing the weapon with a soul and sentience of its own, and now you're gonna use it to prop up the sagging end of your coffee table and forget it exists.

I played this game at the start of 2.0. Here's the thing no one knows anything, and the people that do will not tell.
This is a game and it consumes time. Stop stressing and have fun. The Relic takes time and weather you loved it or hated it, there will always be new stuff to grind for.
What else are you going to do. It doesn't really matter what SE does we all know we're all going to do it.
The game isn't about ilevel it's about fun. take a break and do other stuff like mastering crafting or big fishing etc, etc. I love this game and I know you all do to, just don't burn your self out. -

Yoshi already stated it will be a grind, I mean if it's the same ppl doing the relic quest in 3.0 what's the point in not continue the 2.0 relics. Like I said befor if all my efforts I put in for 3 zeta mean nothing in 3.0 then I wouldn't be doing relics for 3.0 to mean shit again in 4.0 for what? To let people who just start the game a week ago be on same footing as me who been playing since 1.0 lunch...

If you started the relic quest in 2.0, you had an upgradable wpn that you had to do NO RAIDS for, and spend NO TOMES on. FOR EVERY PATCH!!!!
