Steam Users can't get Boxed CE?

So after waiting for a long while looking at news about the Collectors Edition, I really wanted the Boxed one with the dragon and what-not... Then it hit me right in the face.. The announcement that those who bought the original game on Steam also HAS to buy Heavensward on steam if they want it...

As far as I know, Steam doesn't deal with phyiscal packages. Does this mean Square Enix just fucked me over and I CAN'T get the boxed version no matter how much I want it?... If so... When do I go to war!?

You could always get the physical copy of the game and sell the cd key/disks to someone?

That way you get whatever it was you wanted from the physical collector's edition and install standard like you normaly would on steam?

Steam does not deal in physical copies... and retail store editions do not get steam keys...so no, square did not screw you over, you screwed yourself over.

How is Square getting the blame there instead of Valve (or you, for purchasing through Steam in the first place)?

Yep, no physical copy for you.
Even if you have a Mog Station account, are using the official launcher, etc.
It doesn't change a damn thing, you have to get the Steam version of Heavensward.

They will most likely sell the digital CE, but I'm afraid that you won't have a shiny dragon.

The only way would be to buy the physical CE for yourself, buy the Steam digital CE to match your account, and then sell the physical CE code to someone else at the price of the digital CE.

Square Enix didn't make the choice of not allowing steam to sell a physical copy, that is on steam. And even then, nothing is stopping you from buying a physical, its still your choice. Steam is for pc, so isn't it completely possible that you get a pc version not through steam? Either way, you only have to get the physical edition once per account, so you only need one for account-wide benefits

Square has confirmed you cannot use any other edition when you bought the original on Steam, so he can only get the steam version.

He can still buy the physical product. The game code simply wouldn't be compatible.
It's like buying the PS4 expansion pack when you only have the PC version. It's a different medium, even if both are on the PC.

If you register a license, you'll get the stuff, you just won't be able to play it. Different things. never did I say that the pc version would work on a steam account, but he can buy either a combo of both arr+heavensward, or pc and steam versions of heavensward, either way, he only needs one CE for account wide benefits

If you are referring to the point when I specified steam as a pc thing, so he can get the pc version and play that, I simply meant that he can get a pc version not through steam, without needing any other concole/platforms. He would still need the pc version of both arr and heavensward, but he already has a pc, so platform isn't an issue.

Why would you buy it through steam in the first place?

activate the product code using the STEAM menu, don't see why that wouldn't work.

I bought it through Steam to try it out because it was on sale for $14.99. I figured for 15 bucks, why not try the game out for a month? If I didn't like it, it wouldn't be much of a loss. It just happened to turn out that I really loved it and ended up staying. As for the CE, I was gonna go digital anyway so it makes no nevermind to me.

@OP - Square isn't to blame for the physical CE not being compatible with Steam. That's like being mad that your PC edition isn't compatible with your PS4. Sure, they're both for PC but Steam is in essence a different platform.

It wouldn't work because SE needs to give Steam the list of all the CE keys for that. And they are not gonna do it.

If someone knows about this and has a source to confirm it it'd be great. The only things I've found, it could be interpreted either way.

Main reason not to use STEAM for games form companies like SE and Blizzard whom like to control the distribution of their games.
