I don't understand why they have so many maintenances either...I've played quite a few other mmos, maintenances weren't nearly as frequent, yet the servers and the game ran fine. Ah well, Dying Light here I come!
they're not bringing the servers down, though, they're trying to conduct live maintenance.
**popcorn**
/comfort to all the NA Center players
Now I'm gonna be so mad if it includes the EU Center as well...
My favorite was when they took the servers down for 4 hours just so people could dye the Valentines day gear. So that's like what, to the benefit of .02% of the population?
I love misinformed people.
That maint wasnt just for the clothing, they did a lot of server adjustments that dont go in patch notes (because people dont understand what stuff does unless it directly affects the game...)
BTW, im still logged in as I post this...
Going to point out that a lot of people are on. What seems to have been affected is hte connection between the duty finder server and the main servers.
So, you know, what most people would be hit with.
No one on this thread is misinformed. We simply stated the information that SE themselves gave us and aren't assuming anything.
Overly frequent maintenances, often during the worst possible times, are a real problem.
Also, instances are what have been causing people to disconnect and not be able to log in. Have you been in one?
What? They did a lot of stuff but it didn't go in the patch notes, so... How would you even know if they did extra things if it wasn't ever noted in the the patch notes? That comment didn't make much sense, mate. Also, whenever I try and log in I get the message, "The lobby server connection has encountered an error," and then I hit okay and it exits me out of the client. How are you playing or are you not in the NA?

Please pass this link on to your children between the ages of 5-10. I guarantee they have more common sense and comp skills than 83% of the current employees. Appreciate the weekend evening buzzkill SE!
Yeah, the wording is quite unfortunate. They really should distinguish between "maintenance" and "live maintenance" or some such. Granted, this latter one doesn't happen that often (as far as we are aware), but that's exactly why they should be clear about it when it does happen. So that we know we won't be forced to take a break.
On a sidenote, I wouldn't mind if they did include the more technical changes too. Maybe the majority of the players won't even care, but those of us who do have some knowledge, would all be curious, I think.
It's been on the lodestone for days. They've been planning it. They should have planned it for another day, even Friday maybe. So it most likely wasn't an urgent need, if it was, they reacted poorly.
Last post on this topic for now as I reached my limit:
Please state where I asked them to avoid it. I'm saying if they had time to plan it for several days, it must not be urgent, and could wait a little longer. Or they could have done it on a day sooner to noticing the problem.
And? Just because you know about something in advance, doesn't mean you can avoid it. Ever tried to schedule a cable repairman?
Casual players get hit the hardest with this stuff. Sometimes there are only one or two evenings in a week when a person can sit down and play this game. When the game is down, there goes that window of opportunity. Try again next week. Maybe the game will be up then.
Since all of the maintenances are conducted during the same of the day, there's going to be a certain percentage of players that hit the maintenance times often and if some of those players don't have much time to play to begin with, it becomes a big problem for them, a major source of unending frustration.
If the thinking behind this is that the maintenance times are set for when the least amount of total players are logged on, it's basically saying to the people who do play during that time "Sorry, you're out of luck. We need to cater to the majority so your experience with our game will be significantly impacted as a result and that will always be the case until your schedule changes." Great, thanks.

I am unsure as to why so many people think SE does maint for no reason, they have a reason, they aren't just randomly deciding "hey guize, lets bring server down and all login and spawn bahamut in Limsa teehee partay time!"
This also might be something out of their control, since the cause says server equipment issue, it is possible the company where they hold their servers is doing some kind of maint work themselves
Hmm, I don't see a whole lot of people questioning the need for maintenance. The problem is the way they schedule it. Here's since the beginning of December:
Mon 12/08 08 p.m. to 12/09 02 a.m. (PST)
Wed 12/10 11 p.m. to 12/11 02 a.m. (PST)
Wed 12/17 09 p.m. to 12/18 12 a.m. (PST)
Wed 12/24 09 p.m. to 12/25 12 a.m. (PST)
Wed 01/07 11 p.m. to 01/08 02 a.m. (PST)
Mon 01/19 03 p.m. to 01/20 03 a.m. (PST)
Wed 01/21 12 a.m. to 01/21 03 a.m. (PST)
Wed 01/28 11 p.m. to 01/29 02 a.m. (PST)
Thu 02/05 09 p.m. to 02/06 12 a.m. (PST)
Mon 02/23 09 p.m. to 02/24 02 a.m. (PST)
Wed 02/25 11 p.m. to 02/26 2:00 a.m. (PST)
Wed 03/04 11 p.m. to 03/05 2:00 a.m. (PST)
So, if Wednesday evening is one of the only times per week a person in North America can sit down and play, that person is going to encounter a whole lot of maintenance. Then when something like last night happens, the game starts feeling unplayable.
