If say I race change to an Au Ra on my ps4 after purchasing the expansion. Is that character not playable on my pc if I don't purchase the expansion there?

This is actually a legitimate question. I would genuinely like some info on this.
It's possible if the race is considered part of the expansion perk.
Basically think of it like this. I think WoW is a good place to grab an example from because when it came to expansions the following were locked unless you got the expansion.
-New Zones
-New classes
-New races
So I wouldn't be surprised if potentially if you went to play x character it said "You need Heavensward to play x character" Similar to how it might say "You need Heavensward to go into x zone"
Just seems silly to do that If i "PAID" the money to change my race to that race to lock it behind the double buy expansion pay wall.
On the same vein..If I get a character to 60 will i have to buy the expansion on the other system to play them? As lvl 60 is part of the expansion as well.
Its almost certain it'd be fine, you have the heavensward zones that are not loaded into the game and can't be seen if you have no expansion on that console/pc, however even those with no expansion can see the new au ras that are made and any heavensward gear.
If you disagree could you name a mmo where new players or their gear do not load to people that haven't bought an expansion. Most likely you can't as all decent mmos have these things added to the base game not to the expansion, the expansion allows you to receive them.
It would take work to lock you out of an au ra character to make it happen, on top of being a terrible decision.
You PAID the money to access the expansion and it's content on a singular platform. There is no "double buy expansion pay wall" unless you foolishly choose to play the game on multiple platforms, that is not the intended way to play and it's not Square's fault for not catering to people who make that choice.
I want to make my own situation difficult by buying the base game for 2 separate platforms.
Then buying the expansion for only 1 platform.
Then coming to the forums and complain that my situation is complicated.
Back to reality, actually in WoW all you have to do is purchase the digital copy once and it's yours forever. You can install it on Mac/PC any time, anywhere. In WoW you've essentially purchased the Account.
This was answered back in 2011 on the WoW forums.

I agree with HakuroDK AKA Mr. Burning Passion (I love this name, lol), this is a legitimate answer as generally, I don't think any other MMO has done a cross platform system before.
Airget's example is legitimate on a single platform game. In WoW, you can't change to a job or race that you don't have an expansion for (unless they changed that). Since it's a singular platform, all your service accounts will only be on that one platform anyway.
What happens if you play on two platforms, PC has the expansion, PS4 doesn't. You change to Au Ra on the PC, then boot up the PS4. Does it lock you out saying "You cannot use this character because your platform has not installed Heavensward"?
It is a legitimate question that does require a response.
That's not my thing..I bought the game on ps4 long after I had it on pc. Because I wanted the comfort of not having to sit at my pc to play.. but that's not to say I wont eventually want to go back to playing on my pc...I just seems an illogical way to handle an expansion that you have cross play on different machines.
It would be one thing..if it was say like ESO is doing where you can't play the same character at any given time on different machines.
SE really needs to iron out the details. At the moment there's too many questions unanswered and the next Live Letter's in April. I hope this gets brought up quickly.
I'm not sure what you are getting at but I'm saying it cross play meaning you can play the same character regardless which platform you choose as long as you buy the game for that chosen platform (same for expansion). Cross buy would mean you buy it for PC you get it for Playstation for free or vise versa. So it cross play not cross buy.
One of the 2 things is gonna happen. Either the Au'Ra get added to the core game so you can play as them even tho you don't have the expansion, or the game will prevent you from logging on unless Heavensward is installed on the current platform. That's the only way this is gonna work.
And that is the thing. If you can play as them without the expansion (after having it installed in the other system), how far can you go? Gain new skills, new levels? At which point would they put up a wall and say 'This is as far as you can go, you have to install the expansion'?
Would be much easier (but not user-friendly) on SE's part to just blanket it over: Any expansion material, content-wise, that has been detected on your character will require expansion installation.
And that's the real question right there..If I'm level 60 and au ra. And just crafting in Ul'dah..have bought the expansion on the ps4..but decided to day i want to play on the pc that doesn't have the expansion..will I be able to play that character..even if they aren't an au ra but lvl 60 in uldah.
That cause the game was cross buy. Take for example Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD had cross save(similar to cross play) feature allowing you to use the same save file on both PS3 and Vita but still had to buy for both systems. Now like Oddworld New n' Tasty were cross buy which gave you the PS4/PS3/Vita version with one purchase and allowed cross saves.
