Why can boss fights be started while first-timers are watching the cutscene?

Yesterday I visited The Stone Vigil for the first time. Before the boss, I watched the story cutscene. I only do this when I'm new to a dungeon and I always try to click through the texts as fast as possible.

Unfortunately the tank was an egoistic rusher. Although he knew that someone was there for the first time, watching the cutscene, he began the fight after few seconds. I could not take part at it.

Why is this possible? The game has cutscenes, but contradictorily allows other players to either force you to skip them or to not let you participate in the fight.

Suggestion: Make boss arenas inaccessible until everyone has watched/skipped the cutscene. These clips should run automatically, so that other players only have to wait a certain time. Plus, the timer should be paused during cutscenes.

Result: Everyone can watch cutscenes and take part at the battle. In case all party members already know the scene, they can still skip it and quickly start the fight.

This is a huge issue in Castrum/Prae, but if someone is impatient enough to leave a member behind, they really aren't helping themselves.

I don't think something like that would really be needed it's unfair to force things on people but i do have sympathy for you in that position. SV being a story dungeon you kind of want to watch the pre boss cutscene and i always wait in this case since it's just a single one not like in Castrum and Prae where there are hundreds of cutscenes and new players want to watch every single one of them. The last boss in SV takes about 2-3 minutes to kill so it's hardly an issue to wait a minute or so for a pre boss cutscene.

Unfortunately some Tanks are just divas who want everything their own way.

6/8 ppl are i100+
They engage while 3 ppl who are fresh 50 are watching cutscenes = probably almost dead boss by the time the ppl watching finish.

No one can force you to skip cutscenes.

The participating in the fights bits, yeah everyone went through that once.

Main scenario first time is for watching cutscenes. Second time is for learning fights.

If the boss fight could not be started until the cutscene is over then the instance could be held hostage.

I'd prefer for it to finish while I am watching a cutscene, then participating in a battle, but I've already watched the cutscenes... so I'll play with the monsters a bit while others watch.

You would be right and I kinda thought the same but OP already offered a solution for that: the cutscene would simply run automatically aka the first-timer whos watching it wouldnt have any influence on who long it takes - after a certain amount of time it would simply be over. Might not be great for someone who's slow with reading but you could always rewatched them in the inn - in your own speed - and still didnt really miss them while they actually happen. So with this setup the party couldnt be held hostage - they'd just had to wait for a few minutes.

I'm all for people to be allowed to watch their cutscenes on the first run of a dungeon, but if the rest of the group outgear it so much that they can defeat the bosses with ease without waiting on the new players, then I think it's a bit much to expect them to wait through every cutscene every time they're with a new player. Especially in Praetorium and Castrum Meridianum, there are a ton of cutscenes and the bosses are trivial as hell nowadays.

As long as they aren't giving you flak for watching cutscenes, they're being considerate enough. Waiting until you're done watching cutscenes would make the dungeon take roughly twice as long.

There are simple solutions to this issue that get churned out every time this comes up. Go to an inn and watch the cutscenes at your leisure. Yes I know it's not the same because your no longer there but honestly let's be real, You remembered the fight if you did it within the hour and when you hit 50 your going to run it a lot more. People should also realize that this is the internet and it's not just your time your on. 3 other people are trading their time to be there as well so think about putting them out as much as your asking them to wait for you. Not saying I rush through but it's a give and take on both sides and you'll always have access to the CS videos.

Better suggestion: Watch the cutscene, let them do the fight, then re-enter the dungeon afterwards so you can do the fight while skipping the cutscene. /thread

The solution were already done more than ten years ago by GW, when you cannot skip a CS unless everyone else chosen to skip it. It is so easy to implement that I'm amazed why still haven't done here.

Yes, but the people complaining because newbies are watching the cutscenes are wrong. This conversation has been had multiple times and it's been stated multiple times. That new person's 1st experience is more important than your 25987th (you of course being a generalization to include anyone whinging about people enjoying the game the way it was designed).

Only SquareEnix will know the numbers for people who leave before finishing Castrum/Praetorium but I would not be surprised if it was a non-negligible amount.

The Stone Vigil last boss cutscene is a long one too. I can understand the tank getting impatient... that being said, doing that fight a member down is rough and probably not worth it. Just stand there and have a dance off while the guy watches the cutscene.. I promise it won't kill you.

If you do that, not even 1000 soldier bonus would be incentive enough to get me in Praetorium or Castrum again - and i'm probably not the only one.

Playing since 2.0 release, having farmed Castrum for Philos to equip multiple jobs for whatsoever many times. Doing roulettes and Praetorium/Castrum for month every day to get Tombstones for multiple relic weapons.


So yeah - bad idea because you would loose many people b/c they can't be arsed to watch cutscenes everytime someone chooses they want to (or are just trolling and slowing you down even tho theyre in there the 100+ time)

I don't know... 1000 bonus soldiery would probably convince me to sit there an extra 7 aggregate minutes while the cutscenes play.

Well, im done with soldier equip on all classes and 5 relic weapons - the tomes arent really an incentive anymore. The only reason i did Praetorium after i got to that point was to get the Gaius Card (which dropped on the first run - shouldve done that except winning 400+ times against the NPC that drops it >.>)

And with 3.0 the problem becomes obsolete probably anyways - if you want to watch cutscenes you can choose to have a squad of NPCs instead of other players for that.

I was taking a friend through T1 today who hadn't touched any of the coils yet. She wanted to watch the cutscenes so I just stood there with her while she did so. Party rushed ahead and fought ADS with only 2 DPS (I was monk, she was a bard). They wiped while she was in CS, much to my amusement. When we tried with all 8 of us, we breezed through it no prob. First wipe was also due to the other 2 dps apparently being totally fresh without having watched or read anything on it too, but point is that the less than 5m it takes for someone to watch a short scene is not going to kill your entire day.

I had someone bitching at me this morning because I was watching Garuda intro. It's an amazing intro I watch everytime and it's only 1min but nope, he was complete freaking out.

Bitching at you for that is probably unreasonable but if you're curious as to why that happened:

When Garuda HM is having a bonus window, she's by a wide margin the most time-efficient fight for light farming. A good group can kill her in about 2 minutes flat. A great group can do it in slightly less.

Given those timeframes and the fact that a window lasts for 2 hours exactly, people want to maximize the amount of light they can get from her while she's in bonus. So a 1 minute cutscene is 50% of another Garuda that they now can't do because of you. I'm not saying they were right to yell at you for it, but I promise you that's the reason they did.

I'll never express displeasure with someone watching a cutscene for the first time.

However, disabling or skipping the cutscene after having viewed it for the 287th time is a reasonable concession to your party members.

Short answer- to not have mechanics enforce any progression limitations on the people who wish to go faster.

It is a player driven function. An agreement between players, if need be. If people wish to stop and smell the roses, make your request known (either via PF or at the beginning), and follow what the majority of the party wants. If you are in the minority, you just deal, or leave. Enforcing this with mechanics would be far worse for the future of the game.

That's...stupid as hell, even moreso than most examples I encounter. Oh no, it will take 3 minutes instead of 2. This proves what I've been saying, if anything. :/

If anything it effectively challenges what you've been saying.

Cutting 33% of the time means you can achieve the same number tasks in 40 minutes rather than 1 hour. For a simple example, it means the difference between 112 lights instead of 160 over the span of one Garuda window.

It adds up with every.single.delay.

All of them do end up there. They are just in different spots.

But side note. I never watched cutscenes because I was told that I needed to in Castrum and Prae. Going back to the inn was an inconvenience. So when I went with an FC mate to prae for the first time I turned cutscenes back on. The dungeon actually makes sense now. Before it was just oh hey Ultima... Hey Ultima again... Where did lahabrea come from.

It is a matter of efficiency. Be grateful that the loot/tome-to-time ratio is sufficient for the other people to be willing to help one person through the dungeon or trial, rather than seeking something more efficient, and leaving the aforementioned player to fend for themselves.

Again, for the first-timer, I fully support allowing them those extra 30 seconds to 1 minute to view their scene in the intended context.

For someone who just enjoys viewing cutscenes, they can peruse their library at the inn and not inconvenience up to 7 other people who are not there to watch cutscenes.

Garuda windows are limited. When I was light farming my nexus I sometimes went 3 days without seeing a garuda window. That lost 40 minutes of a garuda window means it has to be made up in other instances which take much longer. Losing 40 minutes of garuda adds hours to light farming other content.

Do you at least understand why your parties get frustrated when you make them wait while you watch the cutscene for the 1000th time?

I'd agree to locking a barrier around a boss fight if someone is watching a cut-scene only IF they make it so cut-scenes automatically progress (maybe make it so only cut-scenes in duties/trials/raids auto-progress), and IF it only applies to a persons first time watching the cut-scene.

If this lockout happens, then I'd agree to avoid queueing for story df.

And I will be far from alone in this assessment.

If you directly limit those who are primarily there to allow fast, effective completion of the dungeons, even for newbies, then you are indirectly punishing these younger players because they will lose the willingness of others to help them through the content. Hours in queue to play nearly exclusively with scrubs is a likely consequence.

If that is what you want, go ahead and pursue this agenda further.

Someone could easily AFK in a cutscene and eff up a whole party for a chance to troll. Now that isn't really fair either, is it? Having to force someone to eat the 30min timer because the whole raid is stuck. (I actually did a Prae/CM where a BLM AFK'd the whole run in what I assume was the same CS. The tanks made us wait 10 minutes before pulling the first boss 'cause we thought it was a legit newbie)

They could fix this by making the non-voiced-text able to proceed on its own, but those who read at a slower pace would complain even if it was 1min per chat box (and considering some NPCs talk FOREVER, you might be waiting for a 20min CS anyway).

This is the first and only reasonable point about CS not skipping for all.
Yes the text must go ahead itself after a reasonable time, to avoid afk or troll locking.

It already happens on some part of main scenario cs, so I guess will not be hard to have it happen everywhere.

I think most would suggest to not party using duty finder if maximizing their time is a requirement and frustration will ensue... They should make a party on their own with friends or FC members or create a party of speed/efficient runners using the party finder. Using the duty finder they will get random people new, vets, etc.

I'm running everything first time myself and watch all the cut scenes to enjoy the story. I haven't encountered anyone who wasn't willing to wait. However as me being a healer I guess they can start and risk wiping.

i just watch the C/S's in my room. ill wait and not complain about it, but id prefer if it everyone skipped.
