Jumbo Cactpot working ad intended?

As ingame, u can win 4/4 numbers, last 3 numbers, last 2 numbers and last number...
ok first prize is obviously but other winners... why the hell i nave to guess last numbers and not in the right positions numbers?
ex.
winning number: 5362
my number: 5374
char2 number: 7762

soooo in this way i don't win ANYTHING instead other guys win 2/4 numbers prize... i don't see the point of this.

As Siyron said, rules are rules. There is no point. It's a pure luck system. If you are lucky, you get rich, if not, not. It's a very brutal RNG system, with very few very big winners and the mass gains nothing, so there are indeed a lot better systems with a much wider spreading of winners, but well... Squares decision. Ask them, why they implemented something like that. Got nothing to do with the original GS and it's also kind of strange for a MMO. Maybe it's for their homeland audience. Gambling is a big thing in Japan, though very restricted by law.

Are you saying that your character 2 didn't win anything? Wouldn't make sense if you got the last 2 numbers.

This is very common in real world lotteries. They always count from last to first, anything else doesn't matter.

Maybe where you are but every single lottery where I am and most in Europe work the other way around.

Pick from left to right and numbers drawn from left to right. Winning numbers matched left to right.

Sure, some work the other way but I wouldn't say it is that common. It seems counter intuitive to have to pick opposite to drawn. Would make more sense if had to pick right to left and drawn right to left with right to left numbers matching equals win or pick left to right and drawn left to right and left to right matching numbers wins. Picking left to right yet drawn right to left and right to left being the winning combination opposite to the way in which numbers are picked is very odd to a vast amount of people I am guessing, myself included.

Likewise. I told a FC member they *must* have won something as they had several numbers but not in the order picked. The rest of the FC then informed me that it wasn't the case as US lotteries do the back to front thing. That was the first I'd heard of it, either in game or in real life. It's completely alien to us in Europe as reading things backwards isn't a feature of our indigenous languages.

If I pick 1234 but the draw is 4321 it equals a win and if number drawn equals 1234 equals lose but that makes little to no sense why you wouldn't pick your numbers same as they are drawn. It defies common sense, there is no reason I can see as to why you would force people to have to put their numbers in reverse in order to win in countries which read and write in the opposite way.

In Japan for example I can understand why they draw in reverse, because they read from right to left but in that situation it surely would make sense to pick from right to left too instead of what we have here picking left to right. Even in the US you are taught to write from left to right and read from left to right so why would it make any sense to make the draw right to left which is the opposite to both how you read and how you write...it's counter intuitive. It's like buying a drink but having to stand on your head upside down to drink it.

Logically it should be the same in the US as they too are taught to read and write from left to right...which is why I find it odd that they also use a very counter intuitive system over there. Over here ours makes sense, your taught to read and write left to right, the draw is left to right as is the matching numbers system. Sounds to me in the US they had some guy randomly choose to do the opposite to mess with their heads and now they just used to it instead of it making sense language wise. Another example would be like being taught to drive on the left or right side of the road yet when pass your test your expected to drive on the opposite side you were taught just for lulz or the desire to see more car crashes...it makes no sense to me. The current system makes literally no sense in nations where you are taught to read and write from left to right.

Plus I think people are missing the obvious reason for the rule. In most lotteries there are a great deal of numbers, sometimes 54 numbers, in this lottery there are only 10, 0-9. So obviously with fewer numbers, the combinations that can be made are limited, so an additional system rule needs to be in play to allow for a greater number of outcomes.

What? It is the same number of outcomes whether it is drawn from the left or the right. The outcomes are limited by the amount of columns and amount of numbers in each, not which end you start from.

It does not increase the amount of outcomes just because you read it from the right as opposed to the left and I truly hope they don't teach in the US maths lessons that if read something backwards it increases the possible number combinations/outcomes because that would be a mathematical fallacy. The issue has nothing to do with amount of outcomes though despite your claim which makes no mathematical sense. It has everything to do with common sense and logic, if your taught to read and write from left to right it is counter intuitive to draw the winning numbers from right to left when being asked to pick left to right like how you read and write.

Just because you have a messed up, illogical, nonsensical system in the US doesn't make it a good system. In a country where reading from right to left is normal like Japan it makes more sense to draw from right to left but in country where your taught the opposite and read/write from left to right it is logical to draw from left to right. I gave examples above of how illogical the current system is in game and how illogical and counter intuitive the US system is with the drinking on your head example and the driving example but then again the US does a lot of illogical things for the sake of being different like your date system, logical is dd/mm/yy as in the UK with each sequential part being greater in time than the previous as opposed to the US date system.

You wouldn't for example count time in seconds/hours/minutes logically but would count it either as seconds/minutes/hours (increasing) or hours/minutes/seconds (decreasing). The current lotto system in this game and the US system along with the US date structure is illogical and counter intuitive. I am of the mind you only accept it from habit and not because makes sense, but those of us who's systems actually make sense might not like the fact your throwing common sense and logic out the window just because a few other nations disregard such things. The issue of having to use illogical and nonsensical system which is not used in our countries for good reason, that is what this complaint is about really.

If your happy using such a counter intuitive system out of habit then it is fine for you but try to understand that in nations where such systems are based on logic and common sense it does not make much sense to do it this way. I could for example always run/walk backwards despite the fact my eyes are on the front of my head and not the back, but it would not make sense to do so and same thing applies here when taught to read/write from the left, picked your numbers from the left yet the winning draw is ass backwards.

Frankly, I don't mind that you have to have numbers in a certain position... I mean duplicate numbers are possible in the winning number. But I really think it shouldn't matter where the number matches..

For example say the result was:
7734 winning number
3774 your number

So you match all numbers, but only 2 are in the right place so shouldn't you still get to win for matching 2 in the right place?

Lotteries count the later digits for the smaller prizes so that people watching the draw live have hope up until the very end. It has nothing to do with language styles.

For people who say 'any position should count' - why? Neither way makes more 'sense' than the other, but they do have very different prize spreads and chances. The Jumbo Cacpot way gives simple odds:

1st prize: 1 in 10,000
2nd prize: 1 in 1,000
3rd prize: 1 in 100
4th prize: 1 in 10

(Ok I know I haven't tweaked the figures to take account of people not winning multiple prizes, but it makes minimal difference.)

The Jumbo Cacpot is perfectly fine as it is.

There could be a number of reasons as to why the number goes from right to left but it usually comes down to the type of word processer your program is using.

For example, Hebrews write from right to left but their numbers go from left to right. Try writing numbers into a word processor that supports the language and you will probably find it writes the numbers right to left the same as the text. This is a common annoyance in word processors that support the language.

The more common reason for the numbers here going right to left is that its the easiest way to program the number distribution. Assigning numbers based on their place values in the order they are drawn is the simplest way to tell the computer how to handle the number. Place values increase from the start at units, tens, hundred, thousands (visually starting from the decimal point and moving right to left). This way there is a very clear start point ( in this case 0 or the decimal point) and a clear end point (a number in the thousands or hundreds if the thousands place value happens to be a 0).

To assign numbers from left to right is more complicated because the computer can have trouble assigning the first number to a place value unless explicitly told. For example if you drew a 1, the computer would have to explicitly be told which place holder to assign the number to otherwise it wouldn't know whether the number was to be treated as a 1, 10, 100, 1000, etc. (whereas if going right to left, it would be treated simply as 1).

This requires more complicated coding to be written and there are other ways it can be handle such as treating integers as text until you have the completed text and converting it back to an integer. Obviously where time and money are of value most people would pick a simpler system.

As for why numbers can't be matched in any order is pretty obvious, the odds of 1 in 10000 are already very good by lottery standards and matching numbers in any order would just increase the odds substantially that people would be winning left, right and center and multiple times a year. this is what the mini cactpot is for.

Sure, you do such things in real life, because you want to bleed people dry and take all their money - but in a game? For the Gold Saucer as a whole it only got disadvantages, reducing the worth of all other activities, because while most of the players never will win, they will still hope to do.

What's next? Every weekly reset a free Level 200 weapon for a random player? I mean, why not? Lottery! Or why not a housing lottery? Every week a free house? Wouldn't be such a great win as the Jumbo kackpott, because even a big house is easier to obtain than 1M MGP, but I'm sure those winners would still be happy about it, no? And who cares about the others, those jealous ****.

To be completely honest, the only strange thing about that would be anyone who took something called "Jumbo Cactpot" serious enough to let it cause problems for them. It'd be nice to win, but if you go in head first thinking you will... you have only yourself to blame for any disappointment that follows. Does it suck that I don't win? Of course, but I'm not gonna dwell on it for longer than 10sec maybe. It might be a video game, but its one that you're playing with other people. It's one that prestige can be an attractive concept (think of all the people who will be jealous of you if you were to win the 1st place prize and buy yourself a Fenrir mount).

Huh. Weird. Every lottery I know (in my European country) does it the way I described, to the point where I assumed every lottery that uses that number system does it that way. Guess I was wrong.

I'm curious though where people are getting this "drawing order" from, as far as I know you just get the drawn number listed all at once, right? So no way to know if it's drawn from left to right or right to left, unless I'm missing something. Same for the picking of the numbers, you just pick them all at the same time, don't you?

Yes, it's working as intended. The rules were very explicit about which numbers count. What your, or anyone's, country does is irrelevant. If it works as the rules explicitly lay out then obviously it's working as intended.

More specifically it's that every individual digit in the Jumbo Cactpot is its own separate entity. If this were, say, "Pick four different numbers between 1 and 10", then matching the numbers in any order would be sensible. But as "1 1 1 1" is a valid ticket this obviously is ridiculous.

Also it's amazing how fired up some people are over this.

You get to pick a single 4 digit number to match, a single 3 digit number to match, a single 2 digit number to match and a single 1 digit number to match. If the match could come from anywhere, there would be a lot more different combinations that would match in various different ways, making it far more confusing. It's simpler if they pick a specific section of the card that applies for determining each of the different prizes.

The fact that they happened to pick the rightmost digits rather than the leftmost digits is rather arbitrary, but it was going to be equally arbitrary either way, so I don't really see why anyone would care which sections they went with.

i was off by only one number last week. i dont remember exactly what it was, something like 5931 and i had 5961. sooo close and yet i got only 1k mgp. but thats the rules. if they want the chances to be that low, then thats how it is.

You know, in reality though, that's almost as easy to win as the mini cactpot if that were the case, since it's bound to that rule as well. And as we all know, while it's possible you may not have had a chance to win the 10k, many people have lol. I've been doing it every day and already won 3/3 of the cards that had 10k on it. Some folks have won way more than that. And with how many people there are participating in it across all servers, you'll see A LOT of winners over time, even if you or I may never be one.

It's ordered so it remains a 1/10000 chance, it is meant to be a 1/10000 chance to win and if you seriously think this is unfair I don't think you understand how a real world lottery works.

A real lottery work that way: It takes your money.
