Amazing 3-star Rotation pic

This picture helped me to finally, after five weeks worth of attempts, succeed in crafting an HQ Artisan's file.

WARNING: This image assumes you have the base requirements to craft 3-star items, at least the amount of CP listed at the start of each rotation, and every crafting mat HQ as possible.

On both of these rotations, it goes Steady Hands, Great Strides, Ingenuity 2, Innovation, Byregots Blessing, Careful Synthesis 2. Wouldn't it be acceptable and potentially better to do SH, Ingenuity 2, Great Strides, Innovation, CS2 OR Byregots, then whichever you didn't do? In this section, Steady Hands is used to ensure Byregot's succeeds and has a timer of 5 turns, and Great Strides is used to increase the Quality gain with a timer of 3 turns. The major change here is that Ingenuity is moved to before Great Strides since it also has a 5 turn timer, which gives you 1 extra turn with Great Strides active. Using this turn on a Careful Synthesis gives you an extra chance to get a Good or Excellent status to drop your super buffed Byregot's on. At this point, you probably don't need that much bonus Quality to max out, but if you are cutting it close on stats, this might be the boost you need to cap out an HQ% bar.

The token items needed for Supra Tool and Master Book IIs, ie 'balanced darksteel hook,' 'calibrated rose gold cog,' etc (require x2 FC3s each) are listed as 3 star but are definitely NOT 3 star (they are referred to as 3.9 star by players, and are even harder to HQ then 4star). This rotation will not work for them~~~

Just wanted to share this info here because when I first got to the 3 star > 3.9 star grind this became very confusing when googling/redditing to find the right rotation for 3.9. I ended up blowing up quite a lot of gil due to the whole 3 star confusion.

tl;dr This doesn't work for the 3 star (read: 3.9star) token items! Only the regular 3 star 445 difficulty and lower items!

i tried this rotation a few times. Didnt go to well. The truth is anything 3 star and up you cannot really follow a rotation.

The pictures give a sense of rigidity when your rotation should be flexible with the number of ToTT you get. i.e. while you generally want to replace hasty touches with basic touch when you land a ToTT, there are other things you can do with extra CP other than just that.

Also, the synthesis steps seem very drawn out.. 2 PbP + 3 Careful Synth? that's 5 steps and while it may be necessary for somebody who barely meets to craftsmanship requirement (even then, I think it could be done in 4 steps..) 5 steps seem a little excessive.

Also, the steady hand overlap on first rotation, and hasty touch without SH2 on the second rotation..
For rotations that grant only 8 or 9 hasty touches, you shouldn't have to go without steady hand 2 on your hasty touches..


Only reason this rotation even sort of "works" is because 3 star crafting is quite lenient.. Barring any horrendous RNG, you should be able to hq 3 star recipes 100% of the time.



Out of about 20 3 star and 4 star crafts I've done, I've only failed two.. and both of those cases were due to me being greedy reclaiming at 60-70% hq and failing them.. failed 2 reclaim out of 3 total on my sealant crafts.. If I'd just finished the craft without reclaiming, I probably would've ended up with 1 nq and rest hq. 100% complete.



TIP: If you want to try out a new 3 star rotation, try making a Wolfram ingot or some other 3 star mat recipe. It should be affordable enough to test the rotation and they have the same durability and difficulty as the artisan offhands.

Sorry if I misled anyone with my post. I legitimately managed to get my Artisan's File with this rotation, but when it comes down to it, I'm trying really hard to learn how to be a good crafter. However, there's not really any solid tutorial for crafting 3-4 star items that I have managed to find. Not for lack of trying, mind.

All I know is 1-2 star items are very easy to craft, 2.9 are about as tricky as 3-star crafts, 3.9 are about as challenging as 4-star crafts, and I just, by some miracle, successfully crafted an HQ Balanced Darksteel Hook with 9% Quality, so I know I have a very long ways to go. I'm just kinda... lost, I guess.

At least the image can inform of the overall process to 3* + synths. 1. Getting most of progress out of the way | 2. Work towards 10 stacks of IQ, using MM2 and MM to repair.. refreshing comfort zone.. hitting ToT procs | 3. If you've fallen short of 8 or 9 stacks of IQ you can bait for a Good/Excellent to BB on

With 3.9 synths you are going to add Ing2 + Rapid Synth in addition to PbP x2 (Ing2 doesn't buff PbP, and its vanilla success rate is already pretty high. So: PbP, PbP, Ing2, SH2, RS, RS, Hasty Touches till 20/80 durability). 3.9 star has even higher difficulty than four star.

With 3.9 you're managing rng of HT success, PbP/Rapid Synth success, ToT procs, baiting red/excellent chance for BB, and HQ% chance all combined and weighted against the 10% chance Reclaim will fail.

Basically, the above rotation works well if you really hate to try your luck.
But on average, the higher touch rotations will grant you higher inner quality stacks. It CAN go awry if you fail 6 or 7 hasty touches in a row and it does happen. But on AVERAGE, higher touch they will get you better results.

Rotation I use is basically this, it's not 100% accurate, my synth steps may be missing but the basic idea is here.

Comfort zone -> IQ -> PbP -> Ingenuity II -> SH2 -> Rapid Synth -> Rapid Synth -> HT -> HT -> Master's Mend -> Comfort Zone -> SH2 -> HT x 5 -> Master's Mend 2 -> SH2 -> HT x 2/3 -> then finisher with Byregots and CS2.

The above rotation takes 4 synthesis steps, so you have 10 extra durability to dedicate to work on quality. There's no tott zone, you can take pretty much all you get except during rapid synthesis, you can only take 2 since you want to get those rapid synths under ingenuity II.
It also has more hasty touches AND if you land on a lot of ToTT procs, you can use another master's mend to go for another round to work on your quality.

Its disadvantages are that the synthesis steps are not 100% so there's some risk there. and all the hasty touches are 80% and you don't want to swap it out with basic touch since you have better use for CP. So if you have awful luck, the rotation I gave will really mess you up, I won't lie.


But if your luck is average, or above average, or if you craft a lot of a certain item to eliminate the randomness, it will come out on top.


BTW, don't try this rotation without first running it through a simulator, I just wrote that out off the top of my head and also, it may have a different craftsmanship requirement.

Not sure if it's just me, but that title combined with the picture of the lala made me think of a late night sales program. :P

the reason you cant move ingen 2 is that you may need it to cover all 3 cs2's, I know you suggest moving one cs2 as well but if you do and you get a good / excellent you will be missing coverage on the last cs2 assuming you have used ingen2 gs inno cs bb cs2 cs2

if however you don't need the boost on the last cs2 then your are right.

anyway there's is a couple of 10 touch rotations that are comparable to min stats that offer more potential to hq than either of these. but 3 star doesn't have a set rotation just a base pattern to work from, you have to go with what you have for each synth as its quite easy to have one less tot than you need or have a whole bunch more so affording you the ability to extend the synth.

You know, it sounds stupidly simple and obvious, but up until I tried crafting the Balanced Darksteel Hooks, I always thought that I had to rely on a rotation--not a macro, but an actual rotation that I manually inputted--to get crafts done.

But after a few failures, I tried just... letting go of all of my knowledge of macros and rotations and just tried crafting manually without any kind of outside assistance. And you know what? It actually worked! Thus far, I've gotten my Master Blacksmith II recipe book, my Vulcan Lucis, and I managed to craft 2/3 Wootz Ingots in HQ ready for me to craft into a Wootz Bhuj! =D

So I learned a very valuable lesson from this thread, whether intentionally given or not.

To be fair, this Image and Rotation came out a long time ago (before the Uber Difficult HQ Turn-Ins for the Books that are "3.9 Star" as someone mentioned above).

So it actually worked pretty well for early 3 Star recipes back in the day, and it helped inform me (and others) of the general ideas about higher level crafting.
