Can accessories please be limited to jobs that benefit from it?

For example, let str/dex accessories be unequippable for mages and let int gear be unequippable for dps etc.

I've seen so many healers equip dex gear just to bypass ilvl requirements and hinder the group as a whole that it's not even funny.

"Let me sacrifice my gear that already has low stats I could use for stats that don't benefit me at all just so I can enter this instance."

Like I get it's useful for bypassing ilvl requirements but if someone can't pull their own weight to get through certain mechanics (DPS checks, heal/MP heavy fights) then it's hindering more than helping.

*Just to clarify:
Tanks can wear Vit/Str/Dex/Pie No Int
DPS can wear Vit/Str/Dex/Pie No Mnd
Healers can wear Vit/Mnd/Int/Pie No Str/Dex
Casters can wear Vit/Int/Mnd/Pie No Str/Dex

How about... no?

Honestly, while I can see the annoyance of dealing with the few who will equip any useless trinket the benefits outweigh the cons in this particular case. For example, on certain fights it may be beneficial to equip a few VIT accessories to add to your HP pool, and the benefits when spiritbonding are exhaustively long.

If they lock these things down to particular jobs, it would cause more problems than it would solve. Thankfully, people who equip rubbish gear just to bypass level requirements are in a very small minority.

Well every job can benefit from Vit, that can be useful to all jobs.
I'm talking about Monks wearing int gear etc.

Or you could just meld job appropriate pieces with VIT if it's that important- Spiritbond in job appropriate accessories?

I'd co-sign this. It's crazy what some people will do to cheat the iLV gate. Not even a few days ago, a DRG was in a DF group with me in WP (HM) with VIT accessories instead of STR. It took several tries to get past Frumious Koheel Ja (The tank and I were pretty much the only ones taking out the spears). Thankfully he d/c'd and a Ninja with proper stat gear replaced him.

Enjoy your slow painful SB via quick-synth for crafting materia or as a PLD/WAR for those Vit IVs you want everyone to meld into their "job-appropriate accessories".

Sounds like less of a gear problem and more of a problem that the dragoon didn't take out the adds.

I already do this. I'd be fine with that. Especially if it increased the profitability.

I think there's a better solution for when someone causes a problem by bypassing ilvl restrictions. It's called "Vote Dismiss" and it already exists.

It's great because it solves the problem when it's a problem and people can still do the same thing when it's not a problem. People beat algorithm when it comes to making this distinction.

Only if it doesn't effect glamors.

You are suggesting killing the SB market to correct a problem that, quite frankly, only persists in the most marginalized and infrequent of cases.

A more elegant solution would be to enforce this sort if thing via DF only, not in premades or in open-world content. Put your pitchfork down, already, and look for a logical outcome.

As long as I can still equip STR accessories on tanks. I like having the option to equip extra STR on my PLD when the content is easier and can use the DPS boost.

Just because it's best for job X doesn't mean it can't help other jobs.

This is bad and you should feel bad. Seriously, for tanks especially, some roles have to wear accessories from other roles. I say tanks especially because tank gear has a rather marked lack of accuracy. It's weird, too, given you have to actually hit the mobs to keep their attention. To make up for this you have to wear DD accessories if you don't want to give up tank defense. The same goes for healers that are able to DD effectively, barely any healer gear gives accuracy and you need it to land spells reliably. It really does come down to what benefits you the most. So people will wear out-of-role accessories to spiritbond. Who cares, so long as they do what they're supposed to and everything runs smoothly.

lol he should feel bad? Nobody is arguing tanks using dps accessories, but there is no reason to wear a caster accessory. There are plenty of accessories that offer almost 0 benefit for certain jobs. It is certainly an overblown problem though, I personally don't think I have ever seen it happen.

I think the easiest way to fix this is bringing back gear favoring certain jobs. For example, lets take the Dreadwyrm Choker of Slaying. The item would still be equip-able by all jobs, but have it favor PLD WAR MNK DRG (and probably their base classes). If one of those jobs equips the choker, it gives the full ilvl to the average ilvl calculation. If one of the jobs that isn't favored equips it, it counts as an ilvl 0 piece of gear for the average ilvl calculation only. Can still wear what you want, can still glamour it as a non-favored job, but can't cheat the average with it.

Str=Melee dmg and dmg prevented from parry/blocks
Dex=Ranged dmg, dmg dealth by rog/nin and parry/block rates
Vit=Max hp
Int=attack magic potency
Mnd=healing magic potency
Pie=max mp

So for Plds, Str/Dex/Vit/Mnd/Pie is beneficial. Int is completely useless.

All jobs can parry while stupid if the boost to parry was massive, I could see a whm putting dex accessories on if it prevented them dying while taking hate off a bad tank.

I, for one, like my glamour pieces thank you very much, I'd rather not go back to Titan and grind every single type of earring, do mog for every type of ribbon, etc, and have to spend all my inventory space on just accessories.

This game has too many gear restrictions already. Let's not add more.

A lot...and I mean a lot of new players don't have the gil to get the proper accessories when they are leveling quickly. I had someone in my FC who was wearing MND accessories on DRG because he couldn't afford the ones for his own class and stuff wasn't dropping while he was in dungeons.

As awful as this made him, it was pre-40 and a lot of people just don't care at those levels.

<_< There's also the fact that, well, some newbies just don't have a clue. They see the defense and think that they are dandy and good to go.

All in all, just leave it be. People will find ways to get around ilevel gates and they'll do what they want. No need for even more restrictions.

Prey tell, how on earth a monk with dex/crit/det accessories is worse than one with vit/crit/det in a regular 4 person dungeon? Vit is only of use IF the monk is standing in aoe or the tank sucks, the rest of the time it's a worthless stat that doesn't speed up a dungeon. Just like dexterity. Personally, I'm more annoyed at the lazy dps that with their ilevel 100+ that are only pushing 100-150dps. I do more as a scholar and often see paladins with worse gear doing more dps than supposed dps classes.
