Can we have Car and Bike for mount?
With more variety, from sporty to cute models.
Scooter also okay with me or Bicycles or last choice flying broom.

And make them fly for this new expansion.... Especially Bicycles.... ET

Im already in two minds about the Cloud/Shinra uniform we're getting (some how it seems to modern for XIVs world), so definately no on the cars/bikes - no modern tech! :)

I don't think I'd use it, but definitely approve the addition if other players decide they'd like so! Doesn't ruin the game to me^^

No. For one thing, lets' look at FFXIV's setting - Eorzea is a pre-Industrial era world who still use sailing ships for oceanic travel. Yes there's the more technologically advanced Garlean Empire, whose mechanical technology is starting to filter out into civilian use in Eorzea, but all we've seen of their vehicles is other than airships they ironically seem to be fond of bipedal robots and not wheeled transport (apart from trains). I don't think cars and bikes would be too out of place, I mean if you think about some of the stuff the garleans have. The Magitek armour, their airships, their machines like the vanguards. Then there's the ancient allag technology like ultima and the stuff in the binding coils. And remember we have Cid and the ironworks on our side, Cid being a prodigy amoung the garleans who has now had time studying Allagan technology in the CT storyline. I don't think it would be too farfetched or out of place for him to whip up a 4 person car mount (possibly some kind of tank) or a 2 person motorbike.

Hopefully they could displace the model and your actual location when turning just to keep the physical traits of a bike or car intact (no insta turns). That would mean when turning left or right your true position may be slightly ahead of your visual position as the animations take care of the visual turn/speed up mount speed and all that so it is very temporary.

OR, if they could somehow attach discrete hover engines and or jets to them so you could have some sort of hover boost/short harrier Jet animation when making impossibly sharp turns on your wheels (or when doing jumps), that could probably work. You would still have clipping on unequal terrain though ;(.

IMO, FFXIV has civilizations that could have had bike or car like transportation so I wouldn't be immediately opposed so long as they could keep it thematic and somehow visually fitting (well animated turns, not everyone and their kid in a giant jeep). Again though - Garleans have been putting down roads in their outposts, can only imagine what their well defined civilian cities may hold... Personally I would like at least one Tech city just for the fun but I think that'd be an expansion or more away.

I don't think a bike would bother me, although I would never use it in this game. Personally I have no interest in seeing any automobiles in this game though, for some reason they just don't spell fantasy world to me. I'd rather have badass things I could never have in real life.

I hope you mean the pixelated box cars in OP. Because IMO, a motorized vehicle (bikes, 1-man cars, etc) would fit perfectly in a game with airships and personal AT-ST's.. erm, Magitek Armor. Hell, ive seen players mounted on a Floating Techno-Ball.

If the game has the technology of creating airships then there should not be a problem with ground vehicle. Why would you think that vehicles are out of place?

Maybe in Garlean zones (since they will most likely have roads).

The idea of motorized bikes and cars isnt so far fetched.

We have magitek, which is more or less a fantasy term for modern, technology that rivals or surpasses magic.

What does magitek run on? Ceruleum which is comparable to petro. Eorzea harvests ceruleum mainly as a fuel for lighting and lampposts. Garlean use it to power their war machines from their gunships, magitek armor to their vanguards.

The technology and fuel is present in the world, someone from the Ironworks would have to develop it.

No thanks, not only do cars not mesh well with the current game in my opinion but they also have issues with level design not being suited or appropriate in terms of how narrow a lot of the streets, alleys etc are in this game but also the entrance and NPC crowding with people in cars would cause problems in my opinion. The way mounts work in this game also doesn't fit well with the idea of cars movement wise, all the mounts currently in game support the concept of turning on the spot and being able to go over obstacles and elevations whether through flying or stepping/jumping. Behemoths are bit too big in my opinion but at least they fit the logic behind being able to turn on the spot and handle obstacles and elevations while cars would not unless they are hover cars. Motorbikes have less issues with such things so I have less of an issue with that but there is still issues in my opinion even with motorbikes like failing the turn on the spot rule and issues with some obstacles.

It doesn't go with Eorzea style! Eorzea is all about magical ponies, chocobos and magitek armour. NO CARS.

They looked stupid and out of place when WoW did it... It would look even worse here.


(Gnomeish gyro copters, goblin rockets, even submarines were canon in Warcraft before WoW and in WoW you have robots and one of the playable races are magic space-goats from beyond the stars that crash landed in their magic spaceship, yet the motorcycles still looked dumb and out of place)

Basically, having giant riding chickens and horses and such reenforces the fantasy asthetic, even the magitek armour and vanguard constructs exude more of a steam punk vibe. But Airships you say, well the willing suspension of disbelief for a fantasy world to have those is easy. How do you break the laws of physics like that? Because... Wizards! Shut up!

Cars and bikes and motorcycles, no matter how you dress them up in fantasy worlds that are not sic-fi based, they are just mundane cars and motorcycles, I know how they work, you can say they run on magic all you want but they are still cars and motorcycles and therefore just dull or out of place, especially if you add them later when they've NEVER been mentioned before.

Not too keen on the idea myself.

I don't think they'd be able to implement this well in Eorzea. Any thoughts from the Lore sages around here on this?
