Ok...I think your friends/fc need to stage an intervention...
That guy is so easy to beat with a good ascension deck, you almost have to try to lose.
But yeah, that's some pretty awful luck there ;-;
I haven't gotten Gaius yet either, but I sure as hell haven't played that same NPC as much as you have. He's my go-to guy to farm when I'm not hitting up the time-based people. Vorsaile in Gridania is even easier than this guy with Ascension rules.
I use all beastmen because I'm only at 45 unique cards right now so I can't use primals or garleans yet, but the full beastmen deck is still plenty good enough to beat the Ascension card players.
Bear with me, trying to remember this from memory...
...got it!
Frixio, Amal'jaa, Memeroon, Scarface Bugaal Ja and Mutamix.
Protip for this deck: Playing Frixio on the far-right/middle:
[] [] []
[] [] [X] <--- here
[] [] []
Will net you a win (~95%) of the time against either Vorsaile or the Imperial Indolent. They will almost always beat your Frixio card with a card underneath it or to the left of it. I take Frixio back with Amal'jaa, and by the end of the match all of my cards on the board have ascended so high that all their stats are A's and can't be switched back. Just remember to always wall off the 2 from any of those cards and the rest becomes very easy.
edit: The Amal'jaa that is used to flip Frixio back also doubles as bait to get the NPC to flip the open 1 on the board. Neither NPC can combat your card if they take this bait.
If either of those NPC's use the top spot to flip your Frixio, it is harder to get a win but you can almost always assure at least a draw. It's possible to win when they flip Frixio from the top, but the AI gets very wonky and it's very tough to predict what the NPC will do next.
Hope that helps!
I hope you have luck with it. I literally lose maybe 3-4 out of 100 matches with this set-up. Just remember throw down trash in spots if you can't flip a card yet so you can always keep ascending. Don't block off possibilites when you can't flip them yet because by the end of the match (last 1-2 cards) nothing of yours will be able to be flipped because Ascension has brought your stats to A.
I wonder about how the AI works for this honestly, because I tried the Sezul guide for the 90% win chance and it just didn't work for me. Sezul always flipped my dodo in the spot that guy's post said it would suck if he flipped it there lol.
fenrir here you come :P lmao
Vorsaile in Gridania is actually the reason why I stopped doing this because if you play Frixio in the spot I outlined, Vorsaile will almost always use either Kan-E-Senna or Nanamo right underneath Frixio to flip it because those cards both have an unfavorable South stat, so the NPC is trying to wall off its low number. But the West stat for those two cards are 7 and 8 respectively.
So Frixio being played adds a +1, making her open numbers all 7's. Flip it with the Amal'jaa on top of it (being an 8 with +1) and baiting the hungry NPC with that beautiful 1 open to the outside.
By now the Ascension is +2 and all of the rest of my cards are 8's.
If Kan-E was used to flip Frixio, you can now flip Kan-E and make all of your numbers 9's. If Nanamo was played, then you need another Ascension before you can flip, but you can almost always get your next ascension by flipping the card the NPC used to flip Amal'jaa (in my personal experience, Vorsaile usually uses Papalymo/Yda for this and very rarely Minfilia because she is even easier to claim)
By that time you have control of 6 cards and your stats are ascended to the point where they just can't be taken back.
I literally copy pasted this to the Imperial Indolent and it works with about the same success rate. Both of the NPC's have cards that are stacked for certain flips, but starting on the right instead of the left gave me more opportunities to exploit the NPC into leaving a low stat open for flipping, more often.
this just proves the drop rates of cards and the prices of gold saucer items arent as bad as ppl are complaining about yeah the rare cards have really low % but thats how they are supposed to be
imperial really seems like 1 of the best ways to make MGP atm since your almost guaranteed to win 100% of the time making a nice tidy profit off winnings n card sales
Now that I've had some sleep, I use Amalj'aa as the bait card. It has about the same success rate as using Frixio as long as the AI takes the bait. If you start, place Amalj'aa at top center and use either Memeroon or Fruxio to take it back if AI falls for the bait, after that you'll have enough Ascension to not have to worry and just play accordingly. If the AI starts, place Amalj'aa in center left if he plays a card in top center or center right or if he plays Gaius in bottom center place Amal'jaa in center right.
Winning with a full beast tribe deck is really easy as pointed out and you can probably work out dozens of strategies that work very well. It took me about 7-8 hours to earn ~50k and all those cards in the picture so I would wager he is by far the fastest and best NPC to grind for MGP if it's what you are after. I also made a fair amount of mistakes (really, try keep focus and sanity after playing the same guy with the same strategy for 6hours and you'll start to make silly mistakes). But even then 9 out of 10 messed up games will end in a draw and you still make more MGP than you spend to play him.
I would say it rather proves the point people are trying to make. The OP used a near failsafe method of winning against the Imperial, and even then had to spend an enormous amount of time to get that many wins. Yet all of that and only 1/15th towards 1mil MGP.
Besides, drop rates? Have you taken a proper look at the OPs image? oO
Almost 300 cards and zero Gaius cards amongst them.
Hell, that is even worse then the complaints ive seen about the droprates.
the point is most QQ threads u see state that card drop is really low... the OP wouldnt have that many cards if they were as low as the QQ threads state... 5 star cards are supposed to be low rate to obtain, rewards the ppl who make the effort to obtain them not duel 20 times then cry cause it doesnt drop in my world theres already quite a few players with 60+ cards.. cant be that low right??
heck even i have 50+ cards only 1 ive hard to farm more then n hour is thancred lol
Card drop rate IS really low. The Indolent Imperial has about 25% chance to give you a 2* card, 5% or less for the 3* Nero card. I have no idea what the drop rate on Gaius is but for me it's so far 0% as I haven't gotten it and I played against him for 8 hours straight. And the MGP worth of the cards I did get was about 2k. Not even 5% of what I earned from sheer winning against him. It wasn't really meant as an outright complaint thread but I've been stuck at 54 cards for a full day now because neither dungeons/trials drop and I can't get the ones I need from NPC's anymore.
I think I'm on the verge of wanting to complain because RNG is really going against me right now.

I'm all for rare cards being rare, but it's not fun or fair when someone gets Gaius in 20 wins and I'm at 1000+ wins and still no drop.
Not only that, I've been spending my points on gold packs to get maybe one of those 5 stars, and so far nothing. So I've literally been spending my time getting absolutely nothing.
This is what drives people to botting. It's just poor game design. Absolutely no reward for effort, while random Joes walk up, get what they want, and then leave.
This was meant to be side content and yet I'm seeing people grind this harder than zodiac and gear. Everything in this game right now are huge grinds on top of luck of RNG. Then to pour salt in the wound we got a TT tourney coming up, joy. Wasn't there a slide somewhere from one of the live Q&A with the quote "If its not fun, we're doing it wrong." Well...
As for QQ threads go.. The reason some people complain is for some the drop rate is pathetic even for not so rare cards. I have hard of behemoth being granted by king in first try, 3rd try, but average seems to be according to shout chat 50 Tries. Well I have won 200 games got 20 Godbert and still no Behemoth card. I am just trying to get 30 cards to start winning with as most ex parties are terrible, and HM drop rates are meh. Plus I can win against King Elmer while watching netflix... but still 200 wins and no drop is absurd when most seem to have gotten it with just an hour or two of farming him. I have spent 4 hours a day since launch on him and still not gotten it.
oh so i have been lucky on behemoth lost 50% of the time and got 1 card and that was behemot!
5 star cards with only the NPC dropping them seem to be quite a bit better for the drop rate. 5 star cards with NPC and a DF seem to favour the DF method. I could not get gaius from the imperial, but got on my first try in DF for praetorium.
I believe thats incorrect. All 5 stars from NPCs seem to share the same random droprate. The 3 from NPCs only that I obtained all took me several hours each, but I've heard of several others getting them a lot faster, even multiple ones.
Controversially I've yet to see any DF card drop. Whatever the drop rates on NPC or DF cards are, I think it's fair to say they are incredibly random.
I think you may have answered your own question there. It's a Japanese-developed MMO. Eastern MMOs have a tendency towards being grindy, to the point of excess. That's just how they like them over there, I suppose. Unfortunately it means FFXIV has... a long, tedious grind in virtually all of its worthwhile aspects. Which stinks. I love the game a lot, but my loathing for grinds has it so I haven't progressed beyond Zenith for my Relics, haven't leveled even half of the classes, and have barely glanced at Crafting and Gathering.
Its really hard rng.... farmed Battle on the Bridge a lot and not got Gilga til now. Yesterday i did latest Hildibrand quest and enabled Keep and lucky as i am i got Bartz as a Firsttimer ^^
Right now I use Mountain Dew Bahamut Blast, the 2-stars the Imperial drops, and 2 2-star Beastmen. All of his cards tend to have weak sides on the top or bottom, so you can bait with Bahamut middle and then counterflip with the generally-well-rounded 2* beastmen.
took me 1100 + wins to get the twins card i quite enjoyed farming the npc while waitin for my zodiac dungeons to pop now working on cid card doesnt bother me at all gives me somethin else to do while waiting :3
I use Frixio, Ixal, Scarface, Mutamix, and Memeroon.
If Imperial plays Bahamut to the right, I play Ixal to the top left.
What follows is either Nero or Gaius to capure Ixal on the right. Either way, I'm playing Frixio in the top left corner.
If I captured Nero, then I only have to capture another card, simple task.
If they played Gaius earlier, then I'm baiting out their next card. If they play to the left or the bottom, then I capture both Gaius and Bahamut with a 2 facing their new card. If they play Livia at the bottom left, then I use Memeroon to capture back my Ixal and their Livia.
Then I've won.
If it's my turn first, then Ixal to the top left again. If followed by Bahamut/Nero, then Mutamix to top right; if instead followed by Gaius, then Scarface in middle. If captured Gaius, they'll capture Scarface with Bahamut or Nero; if Bahamut, capture Ixal with Memeroon (leave Bahamut for last); if Nero then capture either Ixal or Nero.
So I did around 30 Dragon Necks between yesterday and today, got 5 Ultros cards and 0 Terra, did 10 or so Big Keeps 0 Bartz and did around 20 Shiva HM and got 0 Shiva.
Result after 60 trials = 5 ultros cards which I already had....
And they are trials, fast stuff you do in 5mins....I'm scared of farming Sastasha, Cutters Cry o DD for those uniques...
The dungeons easily have far better droprates than the Trials/NPC's do. I can't give an exact % estimate but I would say it's probably a fair bit higher than 20%. Personally just missing Ahriman from Dzemeal Darkhold of all dropped & NPC cards and I'm 0/4 on that but Sahagin I went three times to get (hard mode), Demon Wall and Siren about four times and Tonberry (gotten it twice in 1 HM and 2 NM runs total, one in each) and Chimera twice (while every friend I went with in those got it on the first try). Luckily you can get Morbol from a NPC because doing AV with randoms is not fun.
Yeah I've gotten Ahriman both times I ran DD since Triple Triad came out. Have also gotten Tonberry twice running WP normal, but I ran it more than twice. Did not get Sahagin from Sastasha HM but I have to run it for my Zodiac drop so maybe I'll get lucky.

Say goodbye to my life for the next 2-3 Weeks of Farming MGP for 10 hours+ a day
If you don't like the GS then don't go to it. I am thoroughly enjoying the whole thing. The only reason I haven't delved as much into Chocobo Racing is because of TT. I just got my 60 cards and now am trying to get Raubahn for my final NPC won card. I've had a blast.
Bought more packs. Bought 23 Packs 11 packs into it Lahabrea =\ so wasted ~14-15k MGP on extra packs that you cant resell. Opened the 14 and.. another Lahabrea.
zomg. how you get so many damn cards? i played all friggin day between four of them NPC's at the gold saucer. the card-themed ones... i played ALL day and only got 2 cards. i spent well like 2k in MGP on matches. so like... how the hell? lol :(
Well I farmed all the NPCs for their farmable cards. Dungeon Cards rate weren't that bad usually got them in 1-4 runs each. (Excluding Cutters which took 9 runs) Shiva/Moogle I had to farm through Trials. Moogle I got in 2-3 hours Shiva was a nightmare. Bartz/Shiva/Vaan/Terra/Onion Knight combined took a couple days of HARDCORE constant grinding them for ~64 hours of repeating content. Packs I spent the MGP I've gained farming all the NPC cards/Imperial.
