Premade^

It's nice that you are so well co-coordinated, it's fairly clear you have it down to a science being 80 points above any team in an average fight.

You've rotated from Flames to Adders, would you mind giving the Malestrom some love now? Getting stomped every time you play really does take the fun out of it over time, and it's taking quite some time to have our myrid groups in Maelstrom work together.

They already have Maelstrom mount and rank achievements (1 at least, I've checked).

They're only in it for the achievement points and mount. (Unless they live off a diet of FFXIV player tears)

There's a month wait in between changing GCs.

I'd rather they'd stay there and have Mael/Flame premades take it to them.

It's all in their party setup, it's not a secret.. They stack 5 blackmages who all focus the same enemy ( /assist? /focus?), 1 bard with Foe up, SCH keeping Galvanize + Selene SpellSpeed up, and WHM keeping HoTs + Stoneskin up. I've seen PUG Mael/Flame dominate too when they happen to get a PUG party with a somewhat similar setup (who just happen to have quick reflexes too and switch targets to a shared target).

LB fills with assisting and such, so their whole alliance benefits from their solid performance.

This thread makes me sad :(

Is it only one party or more of those premades?
I don't get what are the others (Mael & Flames) doing...? But then again I've seen PUGs play...

On Aether, it seems like generally either Flames or Adders do well while Storm struggles, but whatever GC that group is on seems to be the one that 'dominates' for the time being because of their party composition and so on. I believe it is just that one party on Gilga.

It's kind of annoying to see things like this happen since it sucks enjoyment out of playing if all you have to expect is constant CC/AoE LB.

To clarify, this was a bit tongue-in-cheek.

The fact is wins swing around Preemades in Frontline, especially in Slaughter when volleys can be directed fairly cleanly and teamed up with chain CC. As I said before, it rips the fun out of the games. It's also bad for the group the Premades are camping it, as the bandwagon they cause flood the already difficult queue times.

I suppose the only real solution to this is to have a new map and mode to attract people to. Till then I'll just be here in corner with my sour grapes waiting for more than one Aether Maelstrom PvP group to surface.

Nothing is stopping any of you from forming a premade and going against us.

It shouldn't have to come to that though. What about people who generally play solo because they are on a server that may not have as many PvPers?

In my experience...

When a group becomes the only PM in a PvP instance they do it for the sole purpose of winning easily and will actively avoid competition. I sincerely hope that if another PM does form on your datacenter that you stick around instead of becoming "bored" with PvP.

1. Well, if anything SE should make note and get rid of the GC requirement. Then this issue wouldn't occur because the team you could be on would be random!

2. After playing many games that have PvP you can never "prevent" premades effectively. By trying to get rid of premades you would be preventing people from playing with friends.

3. We've had some moments were we got countered well (some losses involved), if anything people should kind of know the strat by now and be working towards countering it.

All I want to know is what are your queue times????

In response to 3, that was likely Fredric Chopin and company - they're making a valiant effort to organize the Maelstrom and I commend them. Games with them involved are much more fun.

In response to 2. We already have that occurring due to GC lockout between friends - this cripples participation because the only way friends can play together is to join one another's Grand Company. On Balmung, you're not likely to see that happen as it's the primary RP server and many players identify strongly with their GC. Which kinda cuts Balmung's group participation down.

What we have is a compound problem that begins with GC lockout. It seriously needs to go. After that, there needs to be a place for full premades to go for a challenge, and incentives to do that. Premades have the advantage of co-ordinating times with one another, as we've seen by the lovely cross-data center even we just had.

Between these two adjustments it will mitigate the damage that's been done to the PvP community and encourage more playing. Incentives for group functions (bonus Wolf Marks or perhaps a separate currency that can only be gained by going with a pre-established team) will encourage players to start to group together more - specially if the designs are well done. That'll improve the average quality in players for solo queue, which should have its own incentives.

There are quite a few premades from all GC's on Aether that stopped running at the dawn of Slaughter. They'll be back.

My thoughts exactly. From what I know, Collision (from Gilgamesh) plays Frontlines with a lot of premades. However, they were the only group that said they'll play Wolves' Den during our event but backed out last minute with their reason being that they just wanted to LB (umm...). On the other hand, Sargatanas, Balmung, Faerie, and Midgardsormr had a strong showing and played extremely well in Wolves' Den. I'm confident that they are the better players by far and would like to thank you guys again for putting forth such awesome matches!

Let's be real the pvp in this game sucks, wolves den has no ranking system, and frontlines has all the achievements which is basically the only reason the premade exists. I don't think anyone from the premade ever claimed to be a god-tier pvp player. It's not like we're going into frontlines rubbing our hands maniacally and circle-jerking about how good we are for crushing pugs, we're just grinding out achievements.

No one from CL even posted in your "event" thread.

None of us care about wolves den. PvP in this game is honestly laughable, slaughter included. If there weren't achievements tied to this terrible game mode, none of us would be queuing.

The difference between Wolves' Den and Frontlines is that the former has been out for a significantly longer period of time. Most of the players who are interested in the achievements have attained the majority of their points when it was popular or in the lull period afterwards through win-trading. In terms of time spent:achievement points gained, Frontlines is far more rewarding.

Even looking at raw PvP experience and marks the gains are far greater from Frontlines as well. We're capable of taking up to 8 friends (more if we're lucky) into the same match and reap equal rewards. Even assuming Wolves' Den queues were popular again we'd be queuing into each other more often than not -- not to say that this would be a bad thing.. but in terms of equal-opportunity gains from our side Frontlines is more appealing.

Putting aside the horrible queue times that normally accompany Wolves' Den, a lot of us simply don't have a reason to queue for it anymore. As I mentioned above, our rewards:time ratio is far superior in Frontlines than Wolves' Den.

Also as Layla mentioned, PvP in this game is kind of disappointing. Even ignoring the obvious flaws brought on by the game engine and latency, there is still little to no incentive to queue for it. There is no ladder system (which is normally the draw to Arena-style combat), most of the tangible rewards have either been attained or aren't interesting (or are extremely grind-oriented), and there are other in-game alternatives (mostly Frontlines) that offer more interesting rewards.

That's not to say we aren't interested in Wolves' Den.. it's just convincing people to log off of Diablo 3/World of Warcraft/League of Legends/etc. for raid is hard enough as is, much less queuing for Wolves' Den instead.

If it's disappointing why are you ruining 48 other players experience? To drive more people away?

You have ADS, you can't use horses on other GCs, what's the point if it's "just for the achievements"?

Because there are 1000 wins and 5000 kills achievements?

Some people are. The vast majority of us are just going for the 5000 kill achievement and the associated title.

Should just pay 8 Flames/Storm/whatever and do 24 man to farm the achievement.
