I was thinking about the that myself yesterday.
My guess is what you already said, a ranged blast of dark energy since you can see them doing darkness hand blasts in their attacks from the Dark Knight teaser video.
If not that, maybe they throw a knife.

Throw their sword at an enemy and then zoom towards it after it hits.

I happen to like the scythes from FFXI, but I actually agree that they shouldn't have them in this game. Maybe we'll see a scythe wielding Job at some point, but we should keep 'em off DRK.
I agree with the general sentiment that it'll be a blast of dark energy. A poison attack would actually be really cool, though... Something that does a small hit of darkness damage then applies a DoT. Something similar to Bio, I guess. MORE DOTS!
Wasn't there a dark counterpart to Banish that THM used to have in 1.0?
They pull out a scythe and pull all enemies in front of them. Is that enough to pull people to the Darkness?

It's probably some sort of variation of Death Grip. I rather pull the enemy to me. Though spammable ranged attack like Tomahawk is also fun.
You throw a ball of concentrated hatred at your enemy dealing <insert damage potency here>. Said target suddenly feels suicidal and proceeds to eat its own face.
Helmet toss. It activates your character's 'hide headgear' option until you leave combat.
Maybe something like a BRD song, but with less range, and all it does is increase the enmity of mobs in range each tick. Pair it up with another ability at a later level that makes mobs more susceptible to other DRK stuff like drains(and perhaps reduces enmity over time? Like the DRK is manipulating the hatred of their enemies), but you can only keep one or the other active at any given time.
I'd imagine it'd be just a darkness based magic attack (or rather, I hope it is lol). Depending on how the animation looks for regular attacks, I'd think that would determine if any ranged attacks will be magic based or simply a throw animation like PLD and WAR. Personally, I'm hoping that it'll be a shadow like attack that travels across the ground and shoots up like a pillar to the target. Combined with a low or deep bass sound effect to it.

I was thinking either darkness like Cecil uses in dissidia to deal damage and draw an enemy in. Or throw a chain scythe similar to holmgang. Or possibly blade beam or shockwave.

I would like it if the drk moves to the target instead of having the target coming to the drk. A 'dark' warp would be cool. Pair that with a vacuum aoe (like keeper of the lake 1st boss) and I think it'd be great.

Maybe a darkness spell that teleports you to the enemy and give them a whack with your sword. I'm not sure, but it sounds more powerful than a bolt of darkness.
While being able to teleport to the enemy sounds cool I dont think that is as helpful for a tank as being able to range and stay, just because what if you wanted to pull some but not all of the enemy monsters or not want to move monsters you already have aggro on while grabbing extra monsters? Using provoke in place of a pull is a waste of an emergency aggro tool. Perhaps DRK will have a bunch of ranged spells with aggro and so the pulling mechanic is a bit mute and then charge as a tool regardless would be useful.
Otherwise maybe they could do an idea like if DRK was in DPS mode (I assume DRK will have a DPS mode like Paladin has Sword/Shield and War has defiance) it is a charge attack ability, and then in Tank mode it pulls and stuns (does not pull if monster is within a certain distance to the player, so it does move the monster when close and the party has found a spot they want to tank it at - and stun because if you pull the monster to you they will attack you sooner and that will set off some of the healing aggro/damage reduction cadence and organization). Or just scrap the duality and make it so DPS charge attacks and Tank mode only range moves, and tank mode could buff another ability to keep a sort of symmetry.
